Dr. Clay Grayson believes he may have found his mate, yet the Merman’s entire world comes to a standstill at the knowledge she is human.
Alwen is ecstatic when her father’s doctor, and her fantasies’ leading man, finally asks her out. However while the chemistry between them is undeniable, there is something strange about Clay that she can’t quite put her finger on.
Alone with Alwen, Clay confirms that she is, in fact, his mate. Overcome with the feeling of knowing how lucky he is to have found his mate when so many Merpeople don’t, he takes no chances and claims her, binding them together.
When Alwen learns what Clay is, will she accept him and forgive his rash action of mating her without her permission?
Alwen screamed as Clay’s image warped and changed. His hair turned a light blue and grew to shoulder length, his brown eyes became dark, his skin shone almost sparkling, and as she looked down scrambling to get away she saw his feet were gone and in their place was a blue mermaid fin.
“Oh My God. You’re a Mermaid.”
“Merman,” he corrected in a voice so silky smooth it almost had her moving closer to him.
“Holy crap, I just had amazing sex with a Merman.” She gazed at him unsure of what her next move should be. She wanted to run, but for some reason she was stuck in place staring in fascination. Clay was even more gorgeous if at all possible in this form. “Why did you change? What was that white light?”
“Come closer, mate, and I will tell you all.”
Alwen took a step taken in by his voice, only to stop and glare at him. “I’m totally freaking out right now, and I want to run, but I can’t. I can’t leave you. I don’t want to. What the hell have you done?” She placed her hands on her hips and glared at the mythical creature.
“I cannot use my voice on you as you are my mate. No Merman or maid will be able to seduce you into anything with their siren voice. You cannot leave right now because it is part of the mate bond. It is an invisible thread, an insurance for us otherworldly creatures so our mate can’t run and leave us within the first couple of months. You are bound to give us a chance. The white light was our souls joining to become whole. You, Alwen Gleemen, are my mate. The other half of my soul. The woman I can spend the rest of my life with. The woman who can give me children and a family of my own.”

Alwen was so very attracted to Clay but never thought he would feel the same way. Clay felt the attraction but thought she was too young for him. With a little push from his friend he gets the courage to ask her out on a date. They quickly realize that they can’t keep their hands or their bodies away from each other. Will Alwen still feel the same way about him when she learns the truth about what he is or will she walk away and refuse to see him again?
I enjoyed this paranormal romance story. This is a fast-paced story that kept me glued to my seat. I wanted to know if they would be able to work out their differences. I liked Alwen she was smart, and compassionate. She thought Clay wouldn’t like to be with her because she had curves. Clay showed her that he loved her body just fine. I liked Clay a lot he was sexy, protective, and had a great sense of humor. He knew that Alwen was the only woman for him. He would do anything to make her happy. I also liked Alwen’s friend she was so supportive of Alwen and Clay’s relationship. The love scenes between Clay and Alwen are sizzling hot. This story contains very explicit love scenes and language.

A Merman of Her Own is the first book in the Merpeople series by Hazel Gower. I chose this book because while I have read tons of books on shifters I have not read a merpeople shifter book. I was fascinated and wanted to know how this book would turn out.
Dr. Clay Grayson is a medical doctor who at the age of forty nine is still looking of his soul mate. Clay is a shifter and shifts into a merman. He lives on the water and swims every chance he can. He is blown away by the thought of having a human mate because of how rare it is.
Alwen is a young woman at the age of twenty just about to turn twenty one. Alwen meets Clay when her father is in the hospital and survives despite the odds against it. Alwen has dreams of opening her own dance studio helping people of all ages. Alwen comes across as a sweet and caring woman who seems older than her years.
The connection between Alwen and Clay is intense. Its apparent from the beginning that both Clay and Alwen are head over heels in love with other. The sex scenes were blistering.
I found this book is very well written with a very unique plot. The main and secondary characters were fascinating and enthralling. At thirty four pages long, this story had a well-defined beginning, middle and end. The ending of the story was a bit predictable but it was more the ride to the end that was more important. Overall, this was a great book.

This was a great start to a new series! I have never had the experience of reading about Merman's/Mermaid's and at first I was hesitant but reading Clay and Alwen's story has changed that for me! Although Clay is older than Alwen I think that they both balance each other out and with his experience and her lack of experience it made for a hotter story!
