Blackthorne Clan, 1
Lucius Black lives a debauched and wild nightlife. Being a ‘Quarter’ (1/4 vampire), blood and sex are what he is. However, his existence wears thin after a century of hedonistic pleasure.
Trevina Patterson lives a quiet, happy life running a hair salon in a village on the east coast of the United Kingdom. It was a perfect life and all she could ask for, until a chance encounter with Lucius Black.
What was it about him that was so unsettling and yet so attractive?
For Lucius, no woman had ever been enough, until Trevina. She awakened in him feelings he had not thought possible. Passions considered by him to be little more than vampiric mythology. She awakened his...black lust.
Trevina strolled up the stone walkway and knocked at the door. It was ajar, so she stuck her head in. “Hello? Anyone here?”
No one answered so she took a hesitant step across the threshold. Oh brilliant, it had hardwood floors and a fireplace. She felt the nearby wall, plaster, but with a fresh coat of paint. It was clean and bright. She imagined where she would place her few sticks of furniture when a deep voice boomed from the hallway.
“Who the hell are you, and what do you want?”
Her head turned toward the direction of the irritated voice. Her breath caught in her throat. A stunning looking man stood opposite her, his legs apart, and his arms crossed. He was in black leather from his long coat to the skin hugging leather pants and black boots. A tight black T-shirt accentuated rock-hard pectorals.
Trevina assumed this stunner looked like a fallen angel or a sexy demon, maybe both. At least that is how they seemed in the movies and on the telly. He had full red lips no man should possess and a scruffy days-old beard and chiseled handsome features. But it was his eyes, the same silver-gray as the sky over a stormy North Sea. They were very large and expressive, framed by long black eyelashes. She imagined the lashes were as soft as mink. He appeared dangerous, and she should be scared, but those eyes had her locked in a searing sexual Svengali-like gaze. He exuded perilous detachment. Impenetrable, guarded, and shielded from emotions. Why she sensed all that, she had no idea. Instead of running to her scooter for safety, she stepped forward holding out her hand. “Trevina Patterson. Do you own this lovely cottage?”
The man stared down at her hand as if deciding whether to take it. He uncrossed his arms, took her hand and shook it. His hand was large, masculine, and very warm. His touch almost brought her to her knees it was so potent. His thumb stroked the top of her hand in a gentle circular motion. A slight sly smile curved his ruby red lips. She tried to bite back a moan but a shaky exhale escaped her throat. He let go of her hand. She felt anger mix with the intoxicating attraction. Did he get off making women react to him, especially women who were not beautiful? She knew she wasn’t. She accepted her blunt-plain features years ago; it saved her plenty of heartache.
“No, it belongs to a cousin of mine. I was looking at it, deciding if I was going to rent it. Why do you ask, Trevina?”
He used her first name. Oh, he was skilled at seduction. It dripped like molten honey in his voice, and she noticed he didn’t have a British accent. She moved closer to him. She would show this sexy leather clad demon she wasn’t intimidated. She looked up at him. Bloody hell, he was tall. “I would like to rent it myself. What’s your name?”
He crossed his arms again, a defensive posture to be sure. “Lucius Black.”
She couldn’t help but smile. The name fit him like a leather glove.
He cocked an eyebrow. “Something amusing?”
She bit her lower lip. “No. Nothing. So I’m out of luck apparently.”
He shifted his stance so he was, just inches away. Her breasts brushed by his impressive muscular chest causing a gush of liquid between her legs. He stared down at her, and his warm breath fanned her cheeks like the incendiary breath of a dragon. A damned sexy one. He exuded a spicy, woodsy scent that was bloody appealing. Warm flickering flame, fire and brimstone perhaps?
“I would not say that,” he whispered sensually.

Wolfram is happy to have his cousin's company, even the little bit he gets. Most of his family has run from him, and he doesn't give himself the luxury of friendship. Wolfram is half vampire, but having been bitten by a were, he changes into a beast every month during the full moon. Wolfram learns he is being watched, but what the intentions of those on-lookers are, Wolfram has yet to find out.
Black Lust gives a dark and interesting twist into the lives of Vampires. Lucius' party life was descriptive enough to make my stomach tum, but I think that is what you learn from him. In Lucius darkest time, he must learn to change or lose the person he loves. Wolfram has another lesson to learn entirely. He must learn to love himself before he can extend that love to others. Black Lust is full of sexual encounters, so if rough romance isn't on your reading list, this one might be a little much for you. If you aren't scared of a wonderfully written dark romance then Black Lust should be added to your book pile.

Black Lust is an intriguing paranormal romance story filled with emotions and well-developed characters. Lucius Black is a Dhampire, a quarter vampire who enjoys his debauched playboy lifestyle. That is until he meets Trevina, a hairdresser who stirs up his lust for a change. While her beauty is plain, he finds an instant attraction toward her that he can’t deny. From their first encounter, you can sense their desire and inner conflict. We also get a glimpse of his Dhampyre cousin, Wolfram and Jessilynn’s relationship.
The characters definitely grabbed my attention and pulled me into their exciting world. There was plenty of emotional depth and erotic romance to sink your teeth into the characters and invest in their happy ending. Not to mention, the sex scenes were steamy and deliciously hot! The suspenseful plot and background of the family’s history added another layer to the story. A great read for fans of erotic and dark paranormal romance.

Black Lust is a great bedtime story that will have you ready to settle in for a warm and cozy night. Both Lucius and Trevina are strong and passionate characters that are a match right from their first encounter and even though Lucius tries to fight it with all he has in him, his line of thinking fell short and he succumbed to the bond.
I have to say one of my most favourite things about paranormal romance is that the characters ‘just know’ right off the bat when they have found their soul mate. We as humans tend to waffle over relationships and never truly know if your significant other is your perfect other half. I admire the thought of love at first sight; even though Trevina is a human, she sees Lucius and she just knows that they are meant to be together. Yet the big bad vampire fights his true nature and that immediate bond that is forged; he downplays her attributes to try and talk himself out of a mating when he should just let go and see where things lead. So there you have it…..human who usually waffles knows what she wants and gives into the desire; and a vampire who should give into the mating but is blinded by the fact that this shouldn’t be happening to him.
A beautiful love story that gets down and dirty and makes you feel the emotions as you are on of the characters in the book. Ms. Gerrard’s Black Lust is a very well written novella that puts a bounce in your step after that warm and cozy cuddle in the night!

Black Lust is a strong paranormal tale, and not what you would expect from one! It was much more than I hope it would be.
The characters are very well built. I enjoyed Wolfram’s part of the story too, but I wanted to see more scenes between Lucius and Trevina. The world building is enough to support the novella, and I would have loved to have read this title would be a full length novel, it certainly has all the right elements – even to a series! I want more!

Black Lust is an enjoyable short read. Lucius Black is a Dhampire, a quarter vampire who fully enjoys his immortality by leading a life of debauchery imbibing on alcohol, drugs, and orgies. Then the fateful day comes along when he meets hairdresser Trevina Patterson, a plain looking woman who is not Lucuis’ type. But the feelings between them are undeniable, despite several obstacles in the story that try to get in the way. And someone is trying to kill him and his cousin Wolfram. This was a really well written story, and my only issue was the amount of times it mentions how “plain” Trevina is. Lucius is pretty likable despite how depraved he starts out and Trevina is a strong character. The side story with Wolfram is great too!

Captivating & Hot!
Wow, not only was this story captivating, it had extremely HOT erotic scenes. The world building in the Shadow World was very interesting leaving me wanting to know more of this mysterious world. Actually there were a couple of things in this world that was very intriguing to me. Below are the examples:
1. Jessilynn (Were) speaking to Wolfram (a Dhampyre – half-human/half-vampire who was bitten by a Thrope Were-Wolf)
“There are three types of Wolfen creatures in the Shadow World. At the top of the Hierarchy are Thropes, wolf shape-shifters.” “Below them is Lycans. They are rare and nearly extinct. They also wolf shape-shifters but have Were tendencies, such as shifting into a Were during the new moon. Then there is us, the Weres. We turn during the full moon. We are the serfs to the other two, the drones.
You have to be born a Thrope or a Lycan but Weres are made. Only a Thrope can make a Were, Lycans or Weres typically can’t.”
2. Desiree (Zombi) speaking to Lucius (1/4 Vampire – (Dhampyre – half-vampire/half-human father mated with human)) explaining to him the difference between a Z-O-M-B-I and a Zombie.
“The Zombi is subject to the black Magic power of the Bokor or master. Without any will of their own, the Zombi must do as the master commands them, a kind of undead servitude until they are released and allowed to rest. We have a mind connection with the Bokor. I am an Astral. I have some semblance of a soul remaining and a small fraction of free will but there is nothing free about it. The Bokor is aware of my every thought, every move.”
I really enjoyed this read, the connection between the characters were very intense sexually which left me with a very intriguing vision that my mind’s sexual craving starved for. The plot climaxed slowly towards the end but left me with many questions of what would happen next even though Lucius finds his mate Trevina (Human hairdresser) and Wolfram ending up with his mate Jessilynn (Feisty Were). I literally ate this story up and hope that the author continues it into a series – there is so many directions she can take this in a series.
