Love Cowboy Style, 1

Whitney James was at a crossroads in her life. After a scary incident in the classroom where she teaches high school English, she flees Chicago and heads back to where she was raised in Missoula, Montana. Thinking that maybe a career change is what she needs, she attends a first year law school lecture and sees Colt Robson. Whitney used to date Colt’s son Mark, in high school. Seeing Colt again, but this time older, and with just as much sex appeal, she realizes that she’s always had a crush on him.

Now divorced, Colt is immediately smitten with the older and curvier Whitney. Will she accept his invitation for dinner and if so, will she be willing to be courted by a romantic, old-fashioned cowboy?

Excerpt:

Usually when he worked this late he sat and stared at the salad or sandwich sitting in the white Styrofoam box, wondering how his life had gotten this lonely. But tonight the sun was setting, the lights of Missoula going on one by one while Whitney sat opposite him, tucking into the deli’s famous chef salad.

“You were right, this is so good,” she said.

He reached across the desk and wiped a drop of the Thousand Island dressing that had drizzled onto her chin.

“Oops, guess I shouldn’t speak with my mouth full.”

He laughed. “Shows you’re enjoying it.”

She stood. “You’re right about the view.” She walked to the window and looked out.

He spun around in his seat seeing her outline against the window. They’d dimmed the lights in his office so they could view the night skyline, which had given the room a romantic ambience.

Colt stood. If he got a slap around the face it would be worth it, but he couldn’t fight it any longer. He approached her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled her in close.

He closed his eyes and waited for her to turn around and her hand to make contact with his cheek, but it didn’t. Instead she ran her hands over his arms and eased her body back into his.

Colt put his lips close to her right ear, taking in the floral scent on her throat.

“I couldn’t help myself. I’ve tried to fight it since the minute I saw you again, but I’m not that strong of a man. When I see something I want I go for it.”

Whitney leaned back some more until his nose was buried in her hair, even that smelled intoxicating.

“And I’m glad you’re that type of man because I’m not the type of woman who makes a first move.”

She turned around and before he knew it she was in his arms. He was holding her, looking into those beautiful blue eyes of hers. And yes, he had the mother of all erections.

“At least I know you don’t need those little blue pills.”

At first he wondered what she was talking about, but then he figured it out.

“Would it sound like I’m bragging if I said I don’t have any trouble in that department.”

She smiled and he couldn’t stand it anymore. He kissed her. Not the getting to know you sort, but the mouth open and tongues exploring, kind.

They pulled away.

“I wanted to suggest we go on a few dates to see if it developed into anything physical and emotional but now this…”

She put her finger on his lips. “It’s okay,” she said.

This time Whitney initiated the kiss. He ran his fingers through her hair, the movement causing her perfume to drift his way. No way could he stop himself now.

Who as a teenage girl didn't lust after that hot Dad? I would have much preferred it been a girlfriend's Dad, not her high school boyfriend's, but hey! I didn't write the story. The author dealt with the ewww factor I associate with a father and son being with the same women in the book, sort of. Enough of my pet peeves. I liked that there was no hesitation on Colt's part; he just went for it. Having lived his life in an unhappy marriage he'd had enough pretending. Whitney, while technically an adult, seemed a little immature to me but handled things nicely.
I found the references to Colt's age and the need for medical intervention in the bedroom hysterical; other's may not. The drama that drove Whitney home was kind of skimmed over and I felt it needed a bit more attention. All in all a good quick read for the lunch hour or while waiting for a doctor's appointment. Unless it's for your blood pressure; then you might want to skip. Things get a little heated!

Whitney was an English teacher, after a hostage situation she runs back to her hometown trying to figure out what to do with her life. Colt, is the father of her former brief boyfriend. One she always had her eye on but was too shy to bother with, until now.

Colt could be described as arrogant, too confident, but for some reason it really freaking worked for him. I felt myself blushing as much as Whitney. He was such a dominating older man, and so well written. Whitney was so shy and emotionally damaged from her past. I wanted to see her happy ending! The editing was rough in places and some of the dialogue was a bit awkward, especially during the sex scene. Fortunately, the story was great besides those points. The characters were perfect and the plot really
romantic. Colt will be one of my favorite older men from a book, and that list is pretty short. Yes, I liked him that much. *sighs dramatically*

Vanessa Devereux is an author to look out for!
