The Dating Series, 1
Emergency room nurse, Roxanne Carter is a loser-magnet wishing she could enjoy her single life. Commiserating with girlfriends over butterscotch martinis creates the idea of The Dating Manifesto—a not so scientific research project which promises to point the way to dating success. While gathering data to find the most suitable single men available, she wades through a series of unsavory, stale dates, which literally places her back at ground zero. Just when she is ready to give up, sin personified in the form of sexy firefighter Jett Avery, arrives tainting all of her previous data.
A traumatic warehouse fire, in which firefighter Jett Avery's closest friend dies, has him suffering from Posttraumtic Stress Disorder. Attempting to stave off the worst of his depression, he decides to use his brand of therapy...Sex. The remedy has lost luster until he encounters ER nurse Roxanne Carter.
She held up her hands, palms facing toward him. “Stop. This is a hospital. Not some stupid television show where the medical staff is always making out in a closet. I work here. Don’t even think about it!”
Jett closed the distance between them until her hands pressed against his chest, searing their imprint through the thin cotton of his T-shirt. He grasped her fingers and lifted them to his mouth, licking the sensitive tips with his tongue one by one. Heat filled her eyes and she trembled.
“You feel the pull, too. Don’t you?” he asked, dropping her hand.
Jett slid his hands to her waist, and molded her against his erection. A perfect fit. Her sharp intake of breath as she shook her head told him all he needed to know. He smiled. Satisfaction filled him.
“Liar. Shake your head in denial all you want, but I can see the reflection mirrored in your eyes, and feel the powerful draw when I touch you,” he said in a husky tone. He rubbed his stiff cock against her stomach. The intensity of his desire eliminated all reason.
Jett buried his face in her neck and breathed in her sweetness. “Hmm. Today you smell like chocolate.” His tongue traced the delicate shell of her ear as his hands stroked her bare arms. “But you taste like honey.”
Her knees bent and he placed his leg between hers to support her. On the brink of total insanity, he continued his light exploration. His hand skimmed her torso, and skirted the side of her breast. With slow, deliberate care, he let his fingertips graze her collarbone on the way to grasp the back of her neck. Another tremor rippled through her.
God, she felt so damn good.
She tilted her chin and her head rested in his open palm. “Jett,” her sultry voice caused his penis to throb. “This is not a good idea. Anyone could come in here and….”
He pushed his thigh against her crotch. She inhaled sharply, desire deepening the blue of her eyes. “You were saying?”
Her brow furrowed. “And…”
“Intoxicating being a little naughty, isn’t it?” he rasped. He gently tugged her face closer to his. “Hmm. I believe you mentioned the other night that your most recent sexual exploits have been lacking. Let’s add something of interest for your science venture.”

Reading this contemporary, comedic romance story was a nice switch from my normal reading fare, and I didn't want to put the story down. I loved the chemistry and banter between Jett and Roxanne, along with all the fun scenarios Ms. Grieve put the characters in to stir up trouble between them. The descriptions of the medical settings and situations were done quite well, as was the emotional turmoil with which Jett suffered...and let us not forget the quirky mother. I look forward to reading more of Kathleen Grieve's work.

Jett Avery is a heartthrob of a fireman. He transferred to a fire station near his twin brother Cruz after a fire takes the life of his best friend. As Dan’s partner, Jett blames himself for his death. His partner’s death just reaffirmed how dangerous being a fireman is. Jett won’t admit to the nightmares and depression plaguing him since Dan’s death, running through one-night stands to keep the pain away. He is on the hunt again when he sees Roxanne.
Roxanne is an ER nurse who is tired of dating losers. She decided she was going to find out how to find a good man to date, so she started her experiment, the dating manifesto. She wanted to save the rest of the female population from dating disasters! Based on her sad love life, she was finding only three types of men. Ones who want a one-night stand, ones who want commitment and the others who want a Sugar Mama! All she wanted was a date with a decent man. She wasn’t looking for a relationship, just someone to have some fun with.
Starting with the singing and gyrating to “Roxanne” to get her attention, Jett grabs her and kisses her. Unfortunately for Jett, she thinks he is his twin as she works with Dr. Cruz Avery and he doesn’t correct her mistake! She is livid when she finds out, which she does when Cruz speaks up behind her.
From this first comical mistaken impression, Jett and Roxanne strike sparks off each other at every meeting. Jett only wants to get into her bed, Roxanne wants him in her bed, but she doesn’t do one night stands. Besides, she gave herself a dead line for her manifesto, and nothing and no one gets in her way when she has set a goal for herself! Call Dating 911 as Jett does everything he can to interfere, driving her crazy as he shows up on all her dates! Roxanne pushes him away, closes doors in his face, yells at him, but he just won’t go away! The thought of Roxanne pushes the nightmares away and Jett isn’t willing to take no for an answer.
The sorrow and grief that Jett feels over his friend’s death brought tears to my eyes. I felt that I was right there with him in his despair. Roxanne is a wonderful counterpoint, compassionate, kind and fun loving. As much as Jett drives her crazy, and he does it well, she is still willing to comfort him when she sees his pain. Despite that serious thread, Dating 911 is an enjoyable read. Twin brothers, girlfriends to share with, babies and crazy mothers, this book kept me thoroughly entertained and up past my bed time to finish.

This book was something else; it was funny, realistic in how some men act when they think that they are irresistible. That is where Jett Avery finds himself with Roxanne Carter, he is so sure of himself that he sings to her in a sports pub, dances with her and even kisses her but she blows him off. From that moment Jett and his twin brother Cruz know that they want her but who will she pick. Roxanne is immediately drawn to Jett from the moment that he kisses her but after all the dates that Jett ruins she vows never to sleep with him.
This was a wonderful read and it made me laugh so much and then there was the sexual tension between Jett and Roxanne. They both want each other so much but Jett just tries to hard and he doesn’t know when to shut the hell up. I was immediately drawn to his character because there was something about him he was the bad boy but somewhere deep down he had a heart. He showed Roxanne that he could be understanding, he could listen and he could show his true feelings. Roxanne knew that Jett was hiding something devastating but never questioned him about it. There were times that he had reoccurring visions of when he lost his best friend in a fire.
Just to give you an insight of how cocky, persistent Jett was there was the first date between him and Roxanne. Jett shows up to a Restaurant/ Pub not knowing that it was speed dating night. Well first he was pissed off because he truly thought they were going to have dinner but she already had plans for her dating project. So what does he do he tells the men that are participating that Roxanne had some form of STD because he overheard them wanting to get to know her better. Can you believe that I would have hung him from his privates and let him suffer. Just imagine what other evil plans he has under his sleeve in order to bed Roxanne.
The author did an awesome job with describing the growing relationship between Roxanne and Jett. I knew it from the start that they would end up together but didn’t know at what length Jett would to get her and how he would royally screws up by telling her know that they were never an item and for her to find his brother to analyze for her dating project.
Ms. Grieve did a wonderful job in creating this entertaining romance story. It is a different read from other books that I have read and it truly captivated because I wanted to see how long it would take for Roxanne to finally cave in. I would completely recommend Dating 911 to anyone ready to have a good laugh.
