Massey, TX 8

Brandy Carver was living her dream of making clothing for real, every day women. When she gains the wrong kind of attention from a man that doesn’t have “no” in his vocabulary there’s only one action to take—returning home where she’s safest, and where she can finally breathe once more.

Anthony “Crank” Romero, former Marine turned gentleman farmer, is willing to admit he’s a bit of a ladies man. The truth is he’s only looking for the right woman. Finding her when she’s got trouble on her tail wasn’t his plan, but he’s not about to argue when he’s tasked with keeping her safe.

Discovering Brandy’s interests in the bedroom makes Crank realize they are perfect for each other. Knowing he can’t let her go, not when she’s his perfect other half, he’ll do whatever is necessary to ensure that they have a chance at their fated love.

Excerpt:

His phone ringing brought him out of the workout zone he’d fallen into. It also nearly caused him to drop the weight on his own foot. Thankfully, he managed to catch it—just.

Grabbing up his phone, Anthony frowned at the caller ID. “Crank here,” he said.

“That’s creepy, dude, stop that,” Rhys Hollister said to him.

He couldn’t have stopped the grin if he’d wanted to. “Crank does whatever Crank wants.” He knew how much the third person speak irritated Rhys. It was half the reason he did it around his former CO.

“I will beat you within an inch of your fucking life, Tony.”

Snickering, he let it drop and eased to sit on the workout bench. “What’s up, boss man?” he asked in all seriousness.

“I need to ask a favor, and yes, this will be on me.”

“Okay, what do you need?” he asked cautiously. While he’d do anything for Rhys, or the other men from his unit, that particular phrasing had him slightly worried and mildly curious.

“You may recall the Carvers took a hit the other day.”

Yeah, he did. “The youngest was killed, wasn’t she?” he asked quietly.

“So we all thought. Turns out it was a decoy she’d hired to keep the psycho who thought he owned her off her tail while she made her way home. Only the guy, a Colton Brody, got to the woman who was using Brandy’s name, cards, and so forth.”

“Son of a bitch,” he breathed out. “Was she dating the guy or something?”

“One date from what Brant and Frank told me. The guy latched onto her and isn’t the sort to let her go. He’s highly possessive from all the pieces of information we’ve gathered. He also is part of the NYPD family. His father’s a cop, his father’s father, and so forth. They have huge history with the force.”

“And cops protect cops,” Anthony said. Yeah, he knew how that went. The mythical Blue Line wasn’t really all that mythical if you went head to head with a cop. All you ended up with was an entire force out to get you. Not good.

“Yeah. She’s filed paperwork with IA up there, but says that anything against the Brodys tends to magically disappear if it isn’t misfiled, or incorrectly filled out. Funny how that shit tends to happen with the most rotten of the bunch.”

Rhys sounded pissed. Perfectly understandable from Anthony’s point of view. “I take it that Brant’s going to do something with his connections?” It was his baby sister, after all. Of course the man would do something.

“Yeah, and Frank as well. Not quite sure what that particular Carver has planned. Quite frankly, I don’t think I want to know. I like the plausible deniability of things when it comes to shit like that.”

Something else Anthony understood fully. Snorting out a laugh, he rubbed a hand over his head. “So what do you need from me?”

“They need someone to help keep a watch on her. While they are busy digging into Brody’s life, his family’s lives, and everything else to do with them on top of the NYPD, they need someone to protect her.”

“Guard dog duty then,” he said.

“More or less, yeah. It’ll be more than that. Oh, and I should mention Theresa’s fully on board with this. It was her suggestion, actually. Mostly I think because she knows her own boys and how overprotective they can get.”

“Smothering is the word you’re looking for, Rhys.”

“Shut up,” he muttered.

He grinned. Rhys was a big brother as well, so he damn well knew the point Anthony was trying to make. Especially since Rhys’s own baby sister was married into the Carver clan. To Brandy’s twin no less.

  1. Night Owl Erotica 4 Star Review

Fated Love" is the eighth book in the 'Massey, TX' series by April Zyon. While this book can be read as a standalone, it's best to read the other books in order to best understand the secondary characters.

Brandy Carver makes a living designing and making clothes for real women. She's moved back home because she is being stalked by a man she only went on one date with. Anthony “Crank” Romero, a former Marine, now works as a farmer. Anthony is a bit of a ladies' man, that is, until he meets Brandy and she steals his heart.

The beginning of the story leaves you wanting to know more. At the end of the first chapter, I could not wait to finish the book. The author did a good job of drawing the reader into her world. The world she created was very realistic. The story was fast-paced all the way through, and the main characters and the secondary characters were interesting and vivid. I loved that both Anthony and Brandy were not perfect, but they fit together very well.

The point of view was third person and stayed with Brandy all the way through the story. At times, I wished I could hear things from Anthony’s perspective. The main conflict of the story is Anthony keeping Brandy safe from her stalker. The characters each fit their role in the story. The dialogue between the characters was genuine and distinctive. The characters' voices matched not only the setting but fit their overall personalities. The ending was a bit predictable, but the author takes the reader on a wonderful journey. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.

This is the first book in the Massey Texas series that I have read and I can't wait to read the rest!!

Even though this book is part of a series, Fated Love reads like a stand alone as the story comes full circle. The main characters (Brandy & Tony) were engaging and their story kept me completely captivated, I could not put this book down! I can't wait to read the rest of the series and learn more about other characters that make appearances in the book. There was just enough of the side characters to get my attention and keep things interesting without taking away from this amazing couples story.
This is not the first book I've read by April Zyon and certainly won't be the last !!

  4. five shooting stars from redz world reviews 5 Star Review

I loved Fated Love by April Zyon. This is the eighth story in the Massey, TX series, but it does not need to be read in chronological order. This was the first story I read in the series and I was able to follow the story quite well. In fact I found myself wanting to read the prior stories as soon as I finished. So you can guess what will be next on my reading lists. ;)
But back to Brandy and Crank. I adored both characters. Brandy found herself in a situation and took matters to protect herself. She went to the safety of home. I loved that she saw nothing wrong with accepting that she was ill equipped to deal with her stalker. I loved that Ms. Zyon did not equate her acceptance into a weak female character. Brandy was strong in other ways and Ms. Zyon was quick to point that fact out, subtly. Even as she steered Brandy into the arms of the man that was her perfect sexually match. This leads us to Crank. He was so comfortable within his skin and it showed. He did not feel the need to prove who and what he was to anyone. Brandy threw him for a loop but he quickly accepted that she could be what he needed even as he wasn’t looking. I loved that Ms. Zyon made their relationship so easy. The drama surrounded them but their journey to becoming a couple had very little drama but and lots of heat.
I loved meeting the residents of Massey, TX. I enjoyed the sense of family and community Ms. Zyon showed us with this tale. I loved the ease the flowed between Crank, Brandy and her family. And, I am looking forward to getting to know each resident from the beginning.

I have to say, this was a terrific installment to the Massey Texas series. I loved the chemistry between Anthony and Brandy and the sex scenes were HOT! "Crank" can tie me up any day of the week!

Great book and one step closer to the ending of a great series. This makes me sad.

Loved this book! April Zyon,Honor James is one of my most favorite authors. She proves why again with this book. Brandy is a strong female character, even while fearing for her life she finds true love. Tony is a loving Dom, who gets his perfect other half dropped into his lap as a favor to her family. Insta love, suspense, hot sex, and a lot of humor. I couldn't put it down. Strongly suggest buying this series! Can't wait for the next book!

  7. Loved it 5 Star Review

I was provided a free copy of this story in return for a honest review.

To say I enjoyed Brandy and Crank's story would be an understatement. While this was not the first time I have read this author, it is the first story I have read in this series. I can honestly say that while you don't have to read this story in chronological order, I found myself anticipating reading the series from the beginning. I loved Crank. He didn't say much but when he did it felt important. I loved that he was willing to protect Brandy and felt no need to actively pursue her stalker. He was willing to remain within the relative safety of his home and provide a much more personal protection. I also enjoyed that the drama wasn't between Crank and Brandy it was with outside sources. It was nice to see that both characters understood fairly quickly that they had the makings of something long lasting and important. I thought this story was well written. The characters were strong and funny. I loved the strong sense of self that both Crank and Brandy had. I have already added the prior books in this series to my to be read pile and look forward to returning the Massey, Texas.

  8. Good Book 4 Star Review

Good book. Well written. The only I it need was more of the bondage. With Brandy been into that and it sometimes didn't feel like she was because she was leading the scene when she was suppose to be the sub. But over all a good book
