Club Blind, 1

Jane thinks she’s ready to take the risks her business and love life desperately need. Rob’s still punishing himself for a broken relationship that wasn’t meant to last. When the pair let an opportunity pass them by, fate steps in and throws them back together.

An evening of pitch black unrestrained passion at Club Blind opens her eyes to life’s possibilities. Now, if they don’t fight past their personal demons, they might never truly discover what they need most. If they can open their hearts, it might lead them directly to each other where they can discover their truth. If not, they may forever stay in the blind.

Be Warned: light BDSM, anal play, spanking

Excerpt:

The door continued to open every few minutes. Finally, the woman in front of Jane was taken away. She could see nothing past the door besides black. Until the door closed, she continued gazing into the darkness. How would the loss of sight change the experience? Would she feel more? What would he feel like? Nerves shook through her limbs, and sweat tickled her palms.

The door opened, and she stood straight as a statue. This was crazy. She searched for pockets in her robe. When she found none, she swallowed back a curse.

The escort stopped in front of her. “Are you having second thoughts?” He shifted the goggles higher on his forehead.

“Maybe.”

“Would you like to step back and wait to go or ...” He stepped back and cracked the door open. “Sometimes it helps to hear the sounds of the other participants.”

She closed her eyes and took in the moans and let her mind drift to what her body would feel like to make her make those kinds of sounds.

“I don’t want to pressure you. Tell me what you want.”

“Thank you.” She opened her eyes and took a step towards him. The only way was forward. “I’m ready.”

“Good for you.” He reached out and took hold of her hand. “Come on, I’ll take you to the lucky one, for tonight.” He winked and tugged her forward.

Once the door closed behind them, Jane was surrounded by unending black. She looked around, but there was nothing, no end to the darkness. A nervous shiver danced along her spine, followed by thoughts of haunted houses. What would she find around the next corner? Her escort tugged her forward, bringing her back to the night's purpose.

She needed to remember why she was here. She needed to live in the moment. There was a good chance she was about to touch the man who would give her release.

They slowed, turned a corner, and after a couple more steps they stopped. She swallowed the lump in her throat when her escort placed her hand into another’s.

“Enjoy.” He squeezed her shoulder, and she sensed his presence leave the space.

A pull on her hand forced her feet forward a couple of steps. She stopped just as abruptly when she bumped into a hard chest—the man of the hour. This man would touch her soon, but he wasn’t yet. He was only holding her hand. Her breasts moved with her uneven breathing, and her nipples scraped against his chest.

Why wasn’t he touching her? Was he nervous, too, or having second thoughts? She reached up in curiosity to make sure he wasn’t wearing a pair of night-vision goggles, but only found soft hair. She followed the section of hair to above his shoulder and continued onto smooth skin and around his shoulder to his bicep thick with muscle. Her heart thumped, and her breath quickened as moisture covered her needy pussy.

She breathed deeply, taking in his delicious, musky scent. Her hand wandered to his chest and found more of the same, firm skin rounding over firm muscles. A warm hand landed over hers and held her hand tight to his chest. A nose tickled her ear.

“Do you like?”

“Yes,” she admitted.

“I’d like to explore you now, okay?”

“Yes, please.”

She pushed out the breath she held and worked to breathe normally. His hand landed softly on her cheek, fingertips caressed her chin, and then up to her temple. The gentle touches raised a long sleeping yearning within her, and she leaned into his touch.

His thumb swept across her bottom lip. Curiosity wore away her reserve, and she let her tongue reach out and taste his fingers. One digit pushed into her mouth, and she sucked lightly, enjoying his clean taste.

The finger left her mouth, a second of waiting, and then his mouth crushed down on hers. His lips were firm and demanding, feeding her hunger. He ran his fingers through her hair, and then his warm wet tongue swept through her mouth. Back and forth, deep, then gentle, their tongues dueled. She explored more of him as her need to know him intimately soared.

His touch lingered around her shoulders and down her sides. When he found her ass, he kneaded the globes. The kiss ended as abruptly as it started, leaving her wanting.

She heard nothing but the driving rhythm of the music, each track feeding right into another. The current song enchanted her, and her hips swayed. No one could see her, so there was no reason for self-conscious thoughts. The brilliance of the club hit her with full force. It didn’t matter who she was or who he was. Tonight, they celebrated life and the pleasures they could bring their bodies. Everyone deserved pleasure. Even her.

Jane is at a place in her life that she is ready to take risks not just in business but in her personal life. Rob is still upset by a relationship that did not last. An evening of pitch black passion at Club Blind opens not just Jane’s eyes. It also leads them to opening up their hearts. In the Blind is the first book in the Club Blind series by S. J. Maylee. The beginning of the story leaves you wanting to know more. It has a unique premise. By the end of the first chapter, I eager to finish the book. The author did a great job of drawing the reader in to her world. She was able to make the world she created realistic. I could picture the world she created. The flow of the story was done in a way that each chapter built on the prior chapter and kept the reader interested. The main characters and the secondary characters were fascinating and genuine. I loved that both Jane and Rob had faults and were realistic. They come across as real people. The story was in third person that changed from both Jane’s perspective and Rob’s. The point of view alternating between Jane and Rob gives the reader a glimpse inside both characters. The changing point of view was done in a way that the reader did not get lost or a story line repeated. The dialogue between the characters was genuine and distinctive. The characters voice matched not only the setting but fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but the author takes the reader on a wonderful journey. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.

The Romance Reviews TRR
Written by Rachel on 5th Jan 2015

Welcome to Club Blind where a woman can walk into a pitch black club and have sex with a stranger. In S.J. Maylee's book, IN THE BLIND, Jane decides it is time to explore her wild side and get her groove back after being torn down by an ex-boyfriend. She enjoys an evening at Club Blind with a stranger. When her work life connects her with Rob, she can't help but feel an attraction. When it turns out that he, too, has been to Club Blind, it makes her wonder if he could be her sexy stranger. Snippets of the BDSM lifestyle are incorporated into the storyline, particularly as Jane explores her deepest desires as a submissive. There is a good mix of heat woven into the storyline, perfect for an erotic romance. With the thrill and excitement of the sex club, the author has created the beginning of an interesting series. I was impressed with the unique concept of a sex club operating in the dark with employees having to wear night-vision goggles. I am interested to see what happens next in the series.

It was sweet and hot…with a capital H-O-T
Written by Cocktails and Books on 16th Nov 2014

“In the Blind” was a very nice break from real life. I was having a rough day, and I sat down to read it. By the time I’d finished, there was a huge smile on my face. It was short (I read it in about an hour.), but it packed a lot of punch. It was sweet and hot…with a capital H-O-T, and it was exactly what I needed. Let me give you a quick rundown. Jane is in a rut. Her relationship has just ended, and she is having a difficult time getting her business on its feet. Topping it off, she can’t get a man who she met on the train out of her head. Her best friend recommends that she participate in an event at Club Blind (no spoilers). She’s told that it was exactly what she needed. It turns out that her friend was right. There you have it. This is the perfect set up for the rest of the book. Things start to really take off from there, and it’s at break neck speed. There was humor, some angst, romance, and of course, I already mentioned the incredible sex. You’ll be quite satisfied by the end. I know I sure was. Now, remember this is an erotic romance, and it most certainly is that, but there is also some light BDSM…some spanking and even just a little bit of rope, but it’s not copious amounts, and it doesn’t get in the way of the story. There are some great background characters, and since this is the first in a series, I imagine that they’ll turn up in future books. I really enjoyed reading “In the Blind”. It was the first story I’ve read from S.J. Maylee, and I’m sure that I’ll be seeking out other titles from her.

Sassy Southern Book Blog Review
Written by Sassy Southern Book Blog on 6th Nov 2014

I'm going to be totally honest when I first got this book I was prepared not to like it. The blurb like so many other BSMD books that have cropped up lately. So I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm so happy to say that I love this book. Rob and Jane are wonderfully complex characters. I'd love to know more about their best friends, Marcus and Anne. The story line was realistic enough that I felt like I could know these people. The sex scenes were beyond hot. Jane and Rob had crazy chemistry in every scene really. And I really loved that this book wasn't written in 1st person. My only complaint is the book felt very short. I would have liked the writer to develop the story more. Still I would recommend this to a friend.

What if it were real?
Written by Carol Bristol on 29th Oct 2014

When corporate headhunter Jane first meets Rob, she’s instantly attracted, but is scared off by the fact that Rob still wears his wedding ring. He’s no longer married, but continues to wear his ring as penance for a broken marriage. Stalled in her love life, at the urging of a friend, Jane participates in a night of anonymous passion at Club Blind. The encounter with a stranger makes her realize she should not have let Rob get away, and she seeks him out with the offer of a job, but neither can get past their personal history to take things to the next step. Can a “date night” at Club Blind help them find their way? This is sensual, erotic “BDSM lite” read that starts off strong and holds the reader’s interest throughout. Rob is a nice guy gentleman and Jane is so very competent in her career. I loved the opening scenes and the concept of this novella. It kept me imagining what it would be like if such a club existed. I can’t wait to see where author SJ Maylee takes the series next.

Your Invitation to Club Blind Has Arrived!
Written by Liz Castillo on 16th Oct 2014

What can I say about this book other than I absolutely loved it! I feel like I have been waiting forever for this release and it was well worth the wait. The cameos were a great touch. Jane, coming off a hard breakup, is looking to start over and go after what she really wants. One night at Club Blind changes things for Jane. The man she spends time with open up a life style she craves. The only problem with pursuing this, is the man she recently met, Rob. Rob, well he can get those juices flowing! He's everything gentlemanly and passionate about getting to know Jane. And when they finally do get together, holy smokes!! This a was a quick yet very enjoyable read. Loved it and can't wait to see what SJ will bring us next!
