Three nights of pleasure…will it be enough?

Amanda had always been forgiving, until the night of her engagement. It was at that moment, when she found her fiancé banging the waitress in the bathroom, that she changed. Never again. Men were not going to use her ever again.

So when she found William’s portrait and learned that his sole purpose for existing was to please her, an electrifying relationship resulted. Her genie offered her three nights of pleasure. And Amanda quickly realized she wanted more.

Excerpt

Jason did not come home that night. So Amanda called in sick and spent her entire Monday ridding the house of his belongings. She stood on her front porch and watched the movers carry out the last of his stuff and load them onto a moving truck. Jason could have the pleasure of explaining to his mom why all of his shit was being delivered to her apartment. It was no longer Amanda’s problem.
A smile of satisfaction covered her face as she went back inside and turned the newly replaced lock on her front door. “Alone at last,” she said with satisfaction. All day she had been a bundle of nerves, constantly worrying about whether or not she had made the right decision. Until now. “I should have done this sooner. I wasted too much of my life on him.”
Amanda walked around her townhouse and made slight adjustments here and there. She would have thought that removing Jason from the place would have had a bigger impact. Yet by sunset, her live-in boyfriend of several years had been erased entirely. Pouring herself a glass of wine, Amanda decided that it was time to celebrate her newfound freedom with a small but radical home project.
She walked into the bedroom. The white walls were barely decorated. He had only allowed her to put up a few things as decoration.  But he didn’t live here anymore and it was time to repaint.  A baby blue or maybe a soft pink, she thought with amusement. He would have hated that. So without further reflection, she turned on some jazz music and started pulling pictures from the wall.
But as she stood precariously on top of her desk chair trying to remove the little cottage portrait that hung over her computer, Amanda lost her grip and the antique print fell to the floor. “Crap.”  She got down to inspect the damage. The wooden frame had splintered and the delicate picture was torn. “This doesn’t look fixable.” Amanda studied it like she would one of the older library books in her care. “No amount of masking tape …” She stopped in mid-sentence as another picture detached from its hiding place between her cottage print and the cardboard backing.
The hidden piece was obviously much older than the cute little print Amanda had purchased at a local flea market. The paper was curled and fine. The only thing on it was a hand drawn sketch of a man. “It must be Victorian Era,” Amanda said to herself. She traced the torn edges of the page with her finger. The formal waistcoat, top hat, trousers, and long tailcoat were the clothes of an English gentleman in the late nineteenth century. I knew that history degree would come in handy someday, Amanda told herself as she took her new treasure and her glass of wine into the living room.
Her cellphone jingled as she plopped down onto the couch. Pulling it out of her pocket, Amanda could not help but moan when the all-to-familiar picture of Jason came up on the screen. “Thank God for voicemail,” she told the Victorian gentleman in the drawing. “I bet you would be completely different.” Her phone made its final buzz, letting her know that a message had been saved. “In fact, I wish you were real.” Gulping down the rest of her wine, the room did a little spin. “Maybe I should have eaten first.” She cradled her head in her hands and closed her eyes.
    “That can be arranged.”
Looking up, Amanda gasped. Her living room furniture had been replaced by an elaborate dining set. The couch she had sat down on was now an antique chair that was placed in front of an exquisite candle lit dinner. “I must have had more than that one cup of wine.”
“Your wish,” the masculine voice spoke again, “and your pleasure, is my command.”

  1. Book Wenches Review

Often stories of genies are filled with masters who are greedy with their wishes and genies who are mischievous and really only looking to be freed from their curse. This story was a surprising change of pace.

Amanda is a kind person and forgiving person, almost to a fault. This keeps her from seeing the truth and allows her boyfriend to treat her poorly, but her personality also keeps her from being spiteful and cruel with her wishes. The genie is actually sweet, considerate and noble, and he works his hardest to provide Amanda with her deepest desires.

The setting is often romantic and full of candle light and long walks and basically all the traditional romantic clichés, but this adds to the charm of the story.

If you’re looking for a short, sweet, sexy and romantic fantasy, The Genie in the Portrait is the book for you. Enjoy!

I loved the premise, and the story itself was very sweet. I loved the way their relationship developed, and the paranormal twist was fun.

What a cool premise! After tossing out her hateful boyfriend of several years, Amanda gets rid of all his stuff and decides to redecorate the bedroom. As she took a picture down from the wall, it fell to the floor and revealed another picture inside—a sketch of a man, one that appeared like it had been created in the Victorian era.

The picture is the link to a whole new world for Amanda—the link that enables the man in the sketch to come to life. He appears when she speaks to the picture absently, as does a room full of different furniture. This aspect? Fabulous. It drew me in.

Obviously shocked by this turn of events—who wouldn’t be!—Amanda learns that he is there to do her bidding. As she takes him up on his offer, though, she finds herself falling for him, and grows determined to break the bind that keeps him suspended until someone calls for his services. She wants him all to herself (and quite rightly too; he’s lovely) and doesn’t stop until she makes that happen.

I love tales where the unbelievable is made believable. Just for the time of reading the book, anything is possible. What happens on those pages is for real, taking me to a place that was created in someone else’s mind, written so others can share the experience. I just love books and enjoyed this one a lot.

  4. Sizzling Hot Reviews

The Genie of the Portrait, is an excellent book. It centers on three characters: Amanda, Jason, and William. In the beginning, it deals with just Amanda and Jason who have been dating for five years and living together for a few years also.

The first character we meet is Amanda. Amanda is the type of woman that all men would love to date, she is sensible, caring and would do anything for her man. Unfortunately she gets screwed by her boyfriend Jason.

Jason, in one word is a jerk!!! He takes advantage of Amanda, and uses her. He doesn't come home from work some nights, and doesn't seem to appreciate what he has. He decides to propose to her one night, but only to make himself look better to his associates, and hopefully secure a higher paying job.

The another main character is William. William is an awesome guy, with a problem, he is a genie who is supposed to serve woman, to pay for a crime committed by his brother. William helps Amanda to forget about Jason and move on.

I feel that Misty Burke did an excellent job with The Genie of the Portrait. There is a great sex scene, where you can feel the tension rise, and can picture Amanda. Misty makes you care for the characters, therefore you feel bad for Amanda and are glad that she realizes what a jerk Jason is. Than when she meets William, you want to cheer for her to be happy. The Genie of the Portrait is a great book, with a great ending.

  5. Happily Ever After Reviews

The Genie of the Portrait is an erotic version of an old classic. Amanda's character really made the story shine. She's so likeable and easy to relate to, and her inner dialogue is laugh out loud funny at times. After a messy break-up with her fiancé, she discovers a portrait that contains one very sexy genie.

Nothing seems strange with Amanda's acceptance of William, from his presence to his willingness to fulfill all her sexual fantasies because she thinks it's all part of an alcohol induced delusion.

When she discovers the truth, she knows she will do anything to keep her lover from returning to the portrait forever. Once she gets a taste of love, happiness and affection, she refuses to give it up.

This was a well rounded, quick read. For a short story it packs a satisfying punch. Paranormal and fantasy romance lovers will enjoy this little escape. There is a cute twist at the end which is just the icing on this delicious cake!

This is a fun and sexy to read. I liked the story, though I wish it could have been a little bit longer. Still, she made good use of her length constraints; she went straight to the point yet at the same time she was descriptive, including some hot sex. Burke tells a sweet tale in this romantic novella.

I liked Amanda. She shows strength when she throws out her cheating fiancé, after being his doormat for their entire relationship. I was less improved with Jason, her ex's, behavior, when he meets up wiht Amanda and William on the street. I thought the confrontation could have been handled without the violence, but it does underscore his flaws and moral weaknesses. Her revenge on him was well deserved and fun to read, revenge really can be sweet.

I liked William, he is just what Amanda needed. He behaves like a perfect gentleman, treating Amanda perfectly while also being her perfect lover. He is resigned to his fate, accepting of the consequences of his decision making. Unlike Jasaon, William is responsible and honorable, but he is not no stick in the mud. Amanda is also resourceful and wastes no time figuring out how to free William and maybe, just maybe, have him in her life forever. As I said earlier, she gets her revenge on Jason and oh, how inventive she was.

The Genie of the Portrait is a fun, sweet, sexy story; don't pass it up.

  7. Once Upon a Twilight Reviews

What a great short story. It went straight to the point and at the same time was descriptive. Especially in the erotica scenes. As I began reading, my woman’s intuition started ringing and telling me that this guy is no good for Amanda. When I read what he did to her on their engagement night, I felt all the emotions that Amanda was suffering, hurt, anger and revenge. I completely agreed with everything she did and if I was in her shoes I would have done the same. I loved the way that although this is a short story, the author did a great job with the flow of the story, not leaving you guessing or confused. I did not feel as though the story was rushed, although I would have loved for it to have ended with a bit of William and Amanda’s story together. Immediately, I fell in love with William and his gentlemen manners, I liked the fact that the author gave a little description of where William was from and how he became what he became. Gwen is Amanda’s best friend and I loved her for her honesty and no BS attitude, She made me laugh. Overall this is a great short story and I highly recommend it.
