Excerpt

Jerrod pulled on the black 'jeans', as Sandra called them. They were as form fitting as any of his breeches, very form fitting. Sandra had shown him how to operate the zipper contraption, amazing really. He grasped the metal tab and pulled, taking a slice of skin off his finger in the process.

Sandra came running in when she heard the cursing.

"Damn and blast! One can suffer serious injury just dressing."

His irritation dissipated as he followed her gaze toward the matter of his undress. He was quite exposed, even though he was wearing those 'boxer briefs' she had given him. They too, were quite snug. He rarely wore undergarments under his breeches. He hated the loose, flowing small clothes that tied at the sides. He had to admit, the under wear, as she called them, was like a second skin. He liked the feel of it, and obviously it was needed to protect one's privates from these dangerous metal teeth of the zipper. He winced inwardly at the thought of his tackle being caught in such a device.

"I can't work the dammed thing," he snarled quietly. “Would you mind?"

He could have sworn her mouth dropped open. But, to her credit, she did not hesitate. She walked toward him and reached for the tab of the zipper. Her fingers lightly brushed past his cock, his reaction was immediate and very noticeable, making putting up the zipper even more of a challenge. He drew a ragged breath. She stepped closer, lowering her head. The flowery scent from her hair was tantalizing. She pulled. The zipper stuck.

Jerrod heard her sigh. She pulled and tried again. It went up half way. She stepped back quickly like she had been burned.

"You can manage the rest," she mumbled. “The shaving cream and razor are in the bathroom, call if you need me.” Sandra turned as if to flee, but he reached out and softly held her wrist. God's blood, he was aroused.

“Stay, Sandra, please,” he managed. He reached for her hand. Was it his fervent imagination, or was her hand trembling as well? She nodded, and he took her hand. It was small, warm, and feminine, nearly disappearing in his. It felt as if it belonged in his. He let go, quickly buttoned the shirt and stuffed it under the waistband of his jeans, then continued to fight with the zipper. Finally, he got it up.

He rubbed the quite visible whiskers now showing on his face. He was anxious to shave. “Come with me, Sandra?”

Once they reached the bathroom he looked around. Where was the razor? Letting go of Sandra’s hand, he picked up a cylindrical object, and pressed the button on the top. A mighty exhale of air was quickly followed by a mass of white cream. He sniffed, almost a minty odor. Was this the shaving cream she spoke of? He rubbed it between his fingers. Most interesting. Still, he saw no razor. There was something with a handle next to the cream. Jerrod laid down the cream, it went all over the wall, and himself. Grumbling, he reached for a towel and began to wipe.

A sexy laugh bubbled from Sandra, a sensual sound that went straight to his cock, hardening it even more. Her laugh was glorious, but she made no move to assist him. She just crossed her arms and watched him, a sexy, amused grin on her lovely face. Minx. After he removed the mess, he reached for the handled object. He stroked a finger over the top, slicing his skin. A small dot of blood rose to the surface. He sucked on it, while staring at the object. Not a straight razor as he was used to, but some sort of razor nonetheless. He pressed a button and the bloody thing began to vibrate in his hand. He shouted and dropped it like he was handling hot coals.

“The bloody thing is alive!” he cried out.

Sandra bent down to pick it up. She flicked the button and turned it off. “It’s a Gillette Fusion razor, it vibrates, to give you a closer shave. See? Five blades.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Five blades? I am hardly a suckling pig to be carved into bits. Do you perhaps have a straight razor?”

Sandra laughed again. It was such a pleasurable sound, he longed for it to continue. “Only serial killers use those. Is that what you used? It’s a wonder you didn’t lop your head off.”

Jerrod’s handsome face twisted in confusion, frustration and irritation. He felt out of his element, as he had ever since he awoke in her room. She stepped in close, the razor still in her hand. Her countenance was playful, her eyes mischievous. Or was it desire?

“Would you like me to shave you?”Her voice was deep, husky, he would daresay, suggestive.

Jerrod playfully leaned down to whisper in her ear, “Do you make a habit of this? Offering to assist a man in his toilette?” His breath fanned her cheek like a wave of hot sex, covering her body like a cloak. The room became close, the air vibrating with sexual tension and raw, desirous heat. “You do have experience in this, I trust.”

“I shave myself, how different can it be?”

He cocked his brow. “Indeed? And where do you…shave?”

Her face was aflame. She slammed the toilet lid down and pushed him none too gently onto the closed seat. “My legs. Women shave their legs in this time.”

He gave her his sexy, lop-sided grin. “Indeed? Now I am very intrigued.”

Sandra picked up the shave cream and spritzed some into her hands, mixed it between her palms, and leaned down to spread a thin film over his face. He spread his long legs wide, allowing her to step in closer to him. He wanted her as close as she could get. His cock was hard as stone. He looked up at her.

She looked nervous, and excited, he could see desire in her lovely gray eyes. Picking up the Fusion, she flicked on the button, and a low hum filled the silence surrounding them. Her breasts slightly brushed by his cheek, a low growl rumbled deep in his chest. Jerrod reached over with a long finger and swiped the bit of shave cream that was on her sweater, right on the nipple. Barely there contact, but enough to have that flame between them roar to life. He smiled seductively as he wiped the cream on his own throat.

He slid over on the closed toilet seat, so that his thighs were touching her leg, reached behind her back, and eased her down until she was sitting on his leg.

“Shave me,” he whispered hoarsely.

  1. Sizzling Hot Book Reviews

Posted by Unknown on 17th Apr 2012

Ross has been torn from the only world he has ever known—1821 Cornwall, England. How will he adjust to the future and his growing desire for the lovely lady who found him? More importantly, how will he ever return to his time?

After a tragic accident occurs, Sandra Cranston takes a year long leave of absence from work. As much as she may have loved teaching, she can’t be around children right now. Or anyone really, so it’s a good thing she lives alone. To escape her apartment and help her nerves, she takes a picnic to the woods outside of town. There she discovers a carriage with an injured man dressed in costume. Or she assumes it’s a costume, but soon finds out things may not be as they seem.

Jerrod Ross is a country Squire, and mine owner, from of Pendern Hall in Cornwall, England. He was on his way home after acquiring a loan for his mine when the carriage he was in was struck by lightning during a storm. He wakes to find himself rescued by Sandra in September 2011, not May of 1821 when he was from. As difficult as it is to believe, the modern wonders around him prove he has traveled in time. Convincing Sandra he is from the past takes more work though.

There is a strong attraction, and fascination, between Sandra and Jerrod. It helps that there is no one special in either of their lives. But Jerrod has responsibilities and family counting on him. No matter how appealing they are to the other, Jerrod doesn’t feel right abandoning those counting on him. Sandra doesn’t feel right asking him to stay or pushing herself on him. At least not if he doesn’t ask her to go with him. And how could he ask her to give up everything this wonderful time offers her?

Timeless Heart is excellent. Jerrod and Sandra are the typical star crossed lovers, hot together but unable to avoid the angst of responsibility and consequences of their situation. The real surprise is that I never expected a time travel romance to have such humor and insight. Karyn Gerrard is amazing in the way she deals with a person from the past being astonished with all our modern conveniences, most of which we take for granted! And the humor she finds in many of these things is priceless. I don’t know which is funnier: how Jerrod first reacts to electric razors, take-out food, or flush toilets, but I wouldn’t want Sandra’s water bill next month either way!

I really liked Jerrod and Sandra in Timeless Heart. These are not perfect people by a long shot. They have issues in their past, Sandra’s tragedy and Jerrod’s ‘hang-ups’ from his fiancée leaving him. Sandra is a tad dreamy and soft-hearted. Jerrod looses his temper easily. Yet when they get together, the passion is scorching and one can understand why they give into it. They both come across as real people and easy to connect to. The real secret to Timeless Heart is that even far fetches as it is, we can still believe the attraction and them giving into it so fast, eventually falling for the other. With the problems facing them, I was seriously worried how Gerrard was going to find a happy ending. I must say that I was not only happy with the ending, but liked the solution Gerrard found for one of the issues (that’s all the hint I’m giving).

Timeless Heart is a fun story that will appeal to many readers, not just the paranormal, time travel junkies. The science is all theory and unlikely, but fiction has doesn’t have to be accurate to be enjoyable. The romance between Jerrod and Sandra is beautifully done, with sizzling hot sex scenes that start off as lust but quickly build into more. Timeless Heart is highly recommended. Can’t help but wonder if there will be follow up stories dealing with the other passengers that were in the carriage with Jerrod when he came forward in time?

  2. Fictional Candy Reviews

Posted by Unknown on 26th Feb 2012

The story opens with a quick prologue where we see Jerrod riding in a carriage…in 1821. Yep, 1821. He’s in the carriage with a couple other people, and it’s a bumpy ride in a storm. The carriage is all over the place, and then….. heck no, I’m not telling you!

Jump to present day. Sandra is riding along a country road when she spies a carriage tipped off the road. Being the good Samaritan that she is, she stops to see if anyone needs help and happens upon Jerrod Ross, practically passed out cold. She has an instant attraction. And for some reason even she can not fathom, rather than call an ambulance or the police, she rouses him, gets him to her truck and back home to her place.

This story takes place over a pretty short period of time…. Well almost 200 years, and a couple weeks. Sandra is an obviously hurt woman. She is a burnt out school teacher taking a year off after tragedy struck right in front of her. She just wants to get her head back together. She is a very likable character, and you can see her heart from a mile away.

Jerrod is an…ahem, strapping young man. In his time he is wealthy and prosperous. Then suddenly he is in our time, and in the care of Sandra. The chemistry is definitely reciprocated, although he has what is certainly understandable conflicts about what has happened. He's in a new time and place, leaving absolutely everything he knows behind him in that carriage ride.

“Yes, Jerrod Ross, Historical Romance Hunk, was certainly
letting her forget her wretched memories and dark thoughts and, for
    that alone, she was grateful.”

Do you believe that love, or the hope of love, can transcend time and space to bring two people together? The bond these two people shared was tangible. They quickly came to rely on each other. I didn’t want him to go home, I wanted him to stay in our time. It was driving me crazy thinking he was going to have to go back to his time!

Also there were some humorous parts to this story. I find it quite funny to see such a “large and in charge” type of man become bewildered by and frightened of today's modern amenities and conveniences. Ms. Gerrard definitely brought out the giggles in me a few times watching Jerrod trying to acclimate himself to our time in history.

There are a few very steamy scenes also, that will make your toes curl and read a bit quicker, to find out what happens next. The author definitely has no issue describing in beautiful vividness the seduction between a man and a woman.

Now, of course I can’t tell you how it ends. But it will definitely have you on the edge of your seat! You’ll have to purchase your own copy of Timeless Heart for that – or win one here right after this review! But if you like historical romances, this will appeal to you. If you like modern romances, this will appeal to you. If you like erotic romance, this will appeal to you. And this may even appeal to you if you like a bit a sci-fi thrown in for good measure. I really liked reading this book, and I am excited to say that Timeless Love, the sequel to Timeless Heart will be out at the end of March, early April. So you may want to go sign up for Karyn Gerrard’s newsletter to stay informed of that!

  3. Enjoyed every moment

Posted by Ollie at Bitten By Paranormal Romance on 21st Feb 2012

This was a quick read and I enjoyed every moment of it. What probably made this book so interesting is I really didn't know what was going to happen at the end. I didn't know whether Jerrod was going to stay or go or if Sandra was going to follow him or not. I enjoyed that because it made the moments that they shared more intense. LOL when I mean intense I mean sexual marathons (Hmmm I wonder how many men really could go on and on like Jerrod did LOL).

Jerrod is transported from 1821 to 2011 when his carriage is struck by lightening and is found in the woods by Sandra out having a picnic and trying to relax and forget about her dark thoughts.

When she see him she can't believe her eyes. Not only is he dressed in some period costume, but is drop dead gorgeous and she can't help herself from appreciating how well-endowed he seems to be (LOL at least she is honest about where her eyes tended to linger).

She takes Jerrod back to her home where he finds her world strange and fascinating at the same time, but he knows in his heart he has to return to his time. The problem is they both feel a strong attraction to each other that they have never felt for anyone before. They end up finding themselves engaged in endless sexy times that are mind-blowing for both of them. LOL Jerrod seems to have a very high libido because the moment they were done he is ready to go again.

However, Jerrod knows that staying in 2011 he is a nobody, stuck to rely on Sandra for everything that goes completely against his upbringing and his status.

What sounds like from the pages of "Back to the Future" (this was actually mentioned in the book) they believe that if it was lightening that brought him here then lightening is probably the way to get back, but at what cost. Either way both will lose what each of them discovered, a love that they never had and will never have again.

Pick up a copy of this book you will definitely enjoy it and you will love the way Jerrod talks.

  4. Passionately HOT!

    Passionately Hot!

Absolutely beautiful story that left the sweetest impression on my heart! The erotic romance between Sandra and Jerrod Ross will have your libido running wild seeking your own pleasure. This is one short story I will never forget, the writing is smooth, the characters connected immediately, and the story’s plot climaxed beautifully in the end as it made me all emotional with happy tears in my eyes. This is truly one of those stories you want to last forever, it was very moving - I literally hugged my e-reader. I am definitely a new fan of Karyn Gerrard and look forward to reading more of her work.

    Excellent Read!

  5. If you are a fan of Time Travel and of romance, this should be in your "to be read" pile.

Posted by Gayl Taylor on 22nd Jul 2011

I have always been enamored with the idea of time travel and will admit to having fantasized about traveling back in time. In my imaginings things always ended up exciting, dangerous, and romantic. Timeless Heart captures the essence of my fantasies.

Jerrod Ross, a squire from 1821 is traveling with three other passengers in a carriage when caught in a severe storm. That storm propels him to the 21st century. Sandra Cranston, a school teacher on leave discovers his carriage and the romance novel worthy Jerrod and nurses him back to health. Along the way to finding a method of returning Jerrod to his own world, these two develop an attraction for each other that transcends time and distance. I adored the humor and wit from both characters, the engaging plot and the amazingly hot and sensual love scenes! Sandra's spirit and Jerrod's wonder at all the modern conveniences (I would hate to pay Sandra's water bill) were adorable.

    One of my favorite passages:

"What is your name, sir?" the woman asked in a cool tone.
How officious she sounded. He supposed it was all he deserved, as he
was treating her like some servant.
Jerrod lay back down. He was in discomfort. "My name is
Jerrod Ross, Squire from Pendern Hall. And who might you be,
    madam?"
"I? I am Sandra Cranston, Mistress of the walk-up second
    story flat,” she replied coldly.

My only regret - it was over all too soon! If you are a fan of Time Travel and of romance, this should be in your "to be read" pile. (posted at Goodreads)

  7. Manic Readers Reviews

Posted by Alberta on 7th Jul 2011

When Jerrod’s 1821 carriage is hit by lightning, sending him careening into the 21stcentury, he lands in Truro, Nova Scotia and is discovered in the antique carriage by Sandra, an elementary school teacher.

She shows him the wonders of indoor bathing and hot water, microwave ovens, electricity, cars, internet searches and takeout food. While he’s fascinated by the modern world, he knows he has to get back to his own world to take care of his family and lands. As Sandra searches for a way to send him back, they both become more and more reluctant to part. Will he stay in her time, or will she go back with him? How will they accomplish the journey back in time?

I love time travel stories and Timeless Heart is no exception. It’s not a new story, but Jerrod treats the burgeoning love with sensitivity and a modern chauvinism in reverse attitude that makes it fresh.

  8. short & sweet; fun & entertaining; SENSUAL & HOT

Posted by Mel from Bookworm2bookworm on 1st Jul 2011

Jude Deveraux`s "Knight in Shining Armor" is my all time favorite time travel book and Diane Gabaldon's "Outlander" series is a very close second, and while the movie "Kate and Leopold" is one movie I try never to miss when it's on, the original "The Time Machine" with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux has to be one of my all time favorite time travel movies. I can freely state to all of you that if I was unattached and my hero showed up from another time, I wouldn't even think twice at not going back with him! Cave man from the stone ages?! I'll let him drag me by my hair, as long as he loves me (and looks like Hugh Jackman)!

This book sounded very interesting, so I literally `stalked' the author on so many blogs just so I could win a copy! I'm surprised she didn't send the cops after me! Needles to say, I didn't win, but I did buy it for my PC for Kindle and let me start of by saying: I'm so glad I did; get to Amazon and do the same!

Sandra Cranston is a chick on a self-imposed `sabbatical' from her job as an elementary school teacher. One day as she's returning from a picnic, her eye catches a site that gives her pause and spurns her on exploring it.

Jerrod Ross is a propertied Squire and a copper mine owner in the year of Our Lord 1821. The last thing he remembers is a dangerous carriage ride with few other passengers through lightning and storm. And now he's looking at the woman with the most amazing eyes who's telling him that this is the Year of Our Lord 2011!

This was so much fun to read. It's a short novella, but it certainly doesn't lack in romance, humor or sensuality. Our hero and heroine were equally hot, charming and witty that you can't help but chuckle at their banter as well as fan yourself when they give in to their desire for each other! It will also leave you torn and in tears at the end as both of them know that neither wants to let the other go, but is that what true love is all about? Can they let go? Or will one decide to go with the other to the unknown... Get the book to find out!

  9. Charming Male Lead!

Posted by Nina-Posted at GoodReads on 21st Jun 2011

I'm not usually one for romance, but Gerrard has a talent. Not only is she amazing at writing wonderfully devious and charming male leads, but she also has a great sense of humor about it. It's okay to read this book and smile as the characters even poke a little fun at themselves and their romance novel reactions.

And don't count out the sex! The sex scenes are pant-educing. This book was a wonderful guilty pleasure that was a joy to read. It'll leave you blushing, but you won't feel dirty about it.

    **GIVEAWAY**

    TBR reviewer: Nat

I can't possibly tell you how much I'm in love with this book. It's so sweet, romantic, magical! Think about it as a sexy "Kate and Leopold".

Kate and Leopold is one of my favorite movies, and I'll tell you why I decided to relate these two. Ross, while travelling in his carriage when he’s caught by a storm and passes out. When he wakes up, Ross is rescued by the lovely Sara, but 190 years have passed. She takes him to her home and the sexual tension is too much to handle. Kate and Leopold has the same unique atmosphere of love beyond time, prejudice, and the hero is just as hot!

The love scenes were a very welcomed surprise. Ms. Gerrard has written an in depth story, with just the right amount of emotion and sexiness. Ross and Sarah are perfect together. I would like to have seen a bit more of dialog between them. This title could easily have been written as a full novel. By the end I just wanted to read more!

I hope Ms. Gerrard starts a series with the other people that went missing from the carriage. Where did they go? I wonder what this author will be writing next, cause I'll sure read it! Timeless Heart is a spectacular debut and a novel I would highly recommend.
