Heaven Sent, 2

Andrew is eager to destroy his second demon, a lawyer in New York City. With Emily's help he searches for a way to complete his task. After stalking the lawyer for a week, Emily and Andrew realize killing him will be difficult since he's a public figure. They visit a nightclub he frequents and Emily befriends one of his clients. Under her alias, Emily portrays a prostitute in an effort to get close to the lawyer. Her role playing efforts pay off until they land her in jail.

Andrew fears he will lose Emily forever if the police discover her true identity. He contacts her best friend, Troy, for help. In a matter of hours, Andrew has to find a way to destroy the demon so Troy's lawyer can step in and clear the charges against Emily. While she waits in prison she realizes the men in her life are the source of her problems. She considers her future. If she is set free, she wonders if she would be better off on her own.

Excerpt:

She found an opening at the end of one of the bar sides. The nearest server stood at least seven customers away.

“I am burning up,” she said as she unzipped her purse.

He wiped his forehead with his arm. “Your admirers like to raise the heat.”

“Is that it?”

“Should I start taking names and numbers? I think you could easily leave here with a dozen men wanting to pay for your services.”

She chuckled as the bartender headed their way. “A working girl never stops working and neither does her partner.”

“What can I get for you?” the server asked.

“Four shots please,” she said as she slid her money to him. After he took her money, she shifted her attention to Andrew. “Think you can handle your job inebriated?”

Standing beside her, he leaned one arm on the counter. “I can handle my job at any time. That’s what I do.”

The bartender filled the order and then left change on the bar.

Emily picked up a glass. “You are good at your job, but I can’t help wondering if you’d also make a good male prostitute. I think you could get two dozen names before the end of the night.”

He grinned as he took one of the shots. “I think you’re on to something. A shame we didn’t think of this sooner. To us.” He clanked his drink with hers.

She winced after she swallowed.

“Would you be my business partner if I were a working man?” Andrew asked as he reached for shot number two.

“Oh yeah, and I’d make sure everyone paid or I’d slap the shit out of them.” She held her drink up. “To male prostitution.”

He chuckled at the thought because he could envision it so well. He doubted she would let anyone get by with a freebie. He tapped her glass. “I’ll support it.”

The alcohol had already started to affect him before he’d gulped the last shot. His mind felt fuzzy and his temperature had increased. Emily had to be feeling a good buzz since her body mass was less than his. He’d have to pay closer attention to her to make sure she didn’t invite trouble.

“You know, you’d make a killing as a man whore,” she said.

“Are you pimping me out?” He gave her a twisted grin.

“I can if you want. There are plenty of women here who would pay top dollar for you.”

“And what would be your fee?”

“Me?”

He nodded. “Business partners have to get something too.”

“Hmm…” She lowered her gaze, no doubt considering her response.

“You could get me,” he offered. “I’d have to earn my keep in a manner of speaking.”

“Payment in form of sex? Not a bad idea. But I don’t know…” She shook her head and looked away.

“How could that not be good enough? Trust me, I’d make sure the boss was happy.”

Her laugh made him smile. “I believe that,” she said.

“For me, it’s not about the money. It’s about pleasing the boss.” And he wanted to, badly, as he stared into her inviting eyes.

“Well, that’s good to know. You’ll have to work hard in this business to please the boss.”

“I’m up for the job.” If she pressed against him, she’d discover how up he was.

“Oh really?” She put his hand on his chest and gently nudged him. “How about you show me some moves first? Then, maybe I’ll think about giving you a job.”

“You’re the boss,” he said as he backed up.

He took her hand into his and led her through the sea of bodies. His heart thumped fast while his mind swirled from the alcohol. His cock strained in his jeans. Although he had a slight buzz, he was very aware of the woman in his grasp and the power she held. He wanted to please her, to show her his strength, to make her yearn and quake for him. But he knew better than to overstep his boundaries. The priority was to have fun, so he’d make sure she would enjoy the night.

  1. Coffee Time Romance 4 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Mar 2017

Andrew was cast out of heaven for being naughty and given some deeds he must perform before he can return to heaven. Emily is a human who is helping him with his assignment, and in the process is arrested.

Troy is Emily’s friend who helps them get the information they need and are unable to find on their own. He assists with helping them locate the demons by hacking databases to find their earthly personas and provide the information. Andrew is changing and beginning to feel more for Emily than he should because that could lead him traveling a one way ticket to hell.

Andrew, Troy, and Emily work together to discover the demon in disguise, but the demon does not appear to be all that evil. Andrew and Emily go undercover and infiltrate the demons’ world. Along the way Emily is arrested which leads to her spending her jail time in introspection; wondering if it is the men in her life she needs to dump or if she needs to take control of her life and help Andrew in his quest for redemption.

The Heaven Sent series by Ms. Abshire is interesting, but I would suggest starting with book one. It would appear each book is the quest for the next demon of which Andrew must rid the earth of six demons. The end of the story leads into the beginning of the next book so some issues will be cleared up while others will be left open-ended. The reader will need to follow along to find out what happens at the end. The writing engages the reader and despite the left behind feeling which often occurs with ongoing stories through multiple books the leader is left feeling the need to know how it all ends. Second Demon is an entertaining read but I warn anyone who takes a peek into the story will be hooked with the need to know what happens next.

  2. Nail-biter! All sorts of trouble to get into! 4 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Feb 2017

This second book just kept the tension building and building! I had no idea what trouble lay around the corner but it was guaranteed to be big. I absolutely love the way Em and Andrew's relationship is developing! I love that instant gratification is not in his cards, causing him to have to really grow and work to understand her. I can't wait to see how this series plays out!

  3. Demon Lawyer in NYC - Who knew? 4 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Feb 2017

In the next installment of Heaven Sent, Second Demon, picks up right after First Kill, but in New York City. I am sure there is a joke somewhere with the next demon being a lawyer, but by the end of the book, you are ready for Andrew and Emily to do their thing.

In Second Demon, Abshire continues to show you more and more of her complex characters. Andrew, in particular, seems to really changing. He's starting to see Emily very differently. I find his evolution interesting. Almost like it was planned since he can't sleep with Emily without very stiff consequences. But I will tell you, Abshire is killing me with this anticipation! I am so torn, but I think it would worth an extra year, but what do I know?

Emily is also a very interesting character. I'm still not sure why she should be wanted for murder rather than just questioning in Libby's death, but I can go with it. I thought she did a lot of growing in Second Demon as well. She had a whole weekend to reflect on her relationship with both Andrew and Troy. While she hasn't packed her bags yet, you wonder when enough will be enough.

I gotta admit, I want more Troy. Abshire has done a great job of sprinkling enough about him in the story, but still leaving wanted more. I find his character fascinating and totally want to know how he ended up where he is. Good thing there are a couple of more books for Abshire to shed more light on that!

I can't wait to see what the next demon brings for Andrew, Emily and Troy!

  4. Loved it! 5 Star Review

Second Demon is the second book in Mary Abshire's Heaven Sent series. I didn't think it was possible but I loved the characters even more in this second book. The chemistry between Andrew and Emily is amazing. They made me feel all kinds of emotions. Second Demon is well written, fast past, and keeps you engrossed in the story from start to finish. I can't wait for the third book in this series to come out.
