Lucas Harper made a name for himself by winning the lottery—a ticket that no one knows he stole. He bought his own private island, goes through men like underwear, and wastes money on lavish things. Or so everyone thinks.

Phoenix is the sexy thief that not only sleeps with Lucas, but drugs him and steals his dangling jewels. Literally. His mark has five million-dollar gems dangling from pubic piercings. Phoenix didn’t expect to feel bad about taking those little beauties. All he had to do was make it off the island and back home so he could use the overpriced rocks to get his mother into rehab.

Things don’t go quite as planned when Lucas catches up with him and they’re both trapped by a vicious storm...

Be Warned: m/m sex, spanking, public exhibition

Excerpt:

Well, fuck. He hadn’t thought of that. Payback was a bitch or so they said. Phoenix was actually looking forward to keeping his calm under pressure, as it was. The sun was momentarily blocked by a large, dark cloud sending the warm beach into a gray darkness. Lucas shoved his hand between Phoenix’s legs. He adjusted, tilting his hips gentle forward and spreading his legs more. He tensed as fingers abruptly prodded his balls. Don’t squirm, don’t squirm.

“Like that, do you?” Lucas whispered.

Phoenix took a bite of his food as Lucas found the slit and wrapped his hand around Phoenix’s cock. He nearly bounded out of his seat as pleasure consumed his every thought. He forgot how to chew, the tomato filled his tongue with tart sweetness as Lucas released his dick. It flopped out, caught in his warm hand and stiffened to the point of busting. Phoenix remembered the whole food eat thing and swallowed as Lucas stroked his cock under the table. He let out a squeak followed by a forced cough.

Lucas bit his bottom lip. His cheeks blushed. “I could make you come right here.”

Yes, he could.

“Your cum would probably spray on the underside of the table, the tablecloth, over my hand, and onto your boxers. All the while everyone eats, oblivious to the pleasure you just experienced.” Lucas’s words were bold and confident though he blushed.

Phoenix was so fucking tempted to tell him to do it. Touch me, rub me, make me come right here in front of everyone. Then the servers came around. They sat there, Lucas’s hand holding Phoenix’s dick as plates were taken away. New conversations were struck up and the last course was placed in front of them. Phoenix clenched his ass and thrust his hips slightly. It sent his cock rubbing along Lucas’s hand. The man in question smiled but kept his hand still.

“Your last lunch plate is,” the server began.

Phoenix tuned her out. It was obviously a pasta dish. He couldn’t care less what was in it, where it came from, or how it was made. He shifted his hips again, closing his eyes for a moment to savor the nerve endings going off. This was really going to happen. He was going to come all over Lucas’s hand under the table. He grabbed his fork, squeezing it tight as Lucas finally, finally began to move his hand. Up and down. Oh fuck. Up and down. Shit, shit, shit. Up and down. Yes, please. Please. Phoenix had to clamp his lips together with his teeth and fought damn hard not to moan. His orgasm fought like a madman to pull him apart. It swept him from the moment into a mass of pure ecstasy. As Lucas predicted, his cum shot under the table. Fortunately, soundless. Phoenix shifted his hips softly as the orgasm began to fade. He even let out a quick, quiet moan that he covered up with a cough.

Lucas rubbed and stroked and caressed.

Phoenix sat back, his fork still empty and his hands shaky. Lucas tucked his penis back into his shorts and then returned his mischievous hand to his lap. The dark-haired imp smiled wickedly as he loaded his fork with pasta and ate like nothing had happened. Meanwhile, Phoenix had to focus on not screaming out that he just got a handjob from a sexy millionaire.

I went into this book without even reading the blurb so had no clue what to expect. The beginning was a little rough, due to a few typos and a huge time jump. However, once I got over that hurdle, there was no putting this story down. I read it in one sitting. Lucas and Phoenix, are vastly different yet similar at the same time. They both had their demons to battle, both internally and externally. The plot moves at a good pace, is descriptive in the right places without being too wordy, and I even laughed out loud a time or two. The chemistry between the men is instantaneous and palpable. The touch of dominance and spanking was smoking hot. The outcome left me smiling and satisfied. Sure this is a case of insta-love and I’m sure a few will complain they fell in love too quickly. But, hey if I can fall in love with these two guys within a matter of hours, I say go them! I can’t say a whole lot more without giving away the plot, but I will suffice to say if you’re looking for something a little bit different with well fleshed out characters, and some steamy sex complete with pubic piercings, this book won’t disappoint.

This has quite an opening, I’ll have you know. Lucas, you lucky duck, you. Or… is he? I was ready to find out the answer and how he would handle such a life change. Before that could happen, though, things get heavy. Phoenix is dealing with a lot in his young life of 20 years, to say the least. I was riveted by the intensity. Lucas is also dealing with some things, mostly internal struggles, rather than external like those burdening Phoenix. If one were to do a comparison of these two on paper, most would not give them even a small chance of one, meeting and, two, actually hitting it off. This is a big component of this story and one Cox handles so well, building these characters with traits that us regular folk recognize as regular life. In other words, imperfections, self-doubt, things we wish no one would ever find out, along with the wish that guilt over those things wasn’t a part of the equation, and many more. Thank goodness for the simple things. They often bridge the divide, creating a connection, or simply allowing an opportunity to temporarily set aside the difficult challenges of life. Both Lucas and Phoenix initially think that’s what this might be, a temporary reprieve. But we know better, and eventually they do, too. I’m an admitted fan of Cox’s ability to create physical place that makes me feel I could walk right into the scene myself. He excels again here. The various abodes of each of main characters, the beach, the water, the docks, everything described in ways that both allow me to picture it all so easily and connect it all to his characters. This in no small way contributes to the success of the sex scenes, as well. I encountered a number of editing issues. In my experience, this seems to be the norm for Evernight. This is the main reason for four stars on this. A story this creative, with such well thought out characters, heavy subject matter included, with bits of humor here and there, and two guys who make me want to know more about them, they all deserve better treatment than this. This one packs an emotional punch, too. More than one. Right along with that is this is a sweet story, too. Cox does well in balancing the tough subjects, their effects on these characters, and making sure the story remains honest by them by way of those sweet moments and the emotional surprises both Lucas and Phoenix experience. I so enjoyed reading this story and spending time with these characters. When you’re looking for something different in terms of the building blocks but still with a recognizable story arc and hopeful ending, I recommend this.

The TBR Pile

With a stolen lottery ticket, Lucas changes his whole life. A private island and expensive underwear are a few of the things he’s spent some of the money on. And if the world thinks he’s going through boyfriends as fast as his underwear, he’ll let them think that. Phoenix is a thief and he wants to make one last big score. He beds Lucas to steal the jewels that dangle from a very private place on Lucas’ anatomy. So why does he feel bad now? And what happens when Lucas catches him? This is the first contemporary story from this author, I was curious to see how it would turn out. I love his other works. And I love this! It is so much fun to read. It starts off scary, for both Lucas and Phoenix. But those situations are what engages and pulls you into the story. Like all of James Cox's books, this is fast, fun, snarky and smoking hot. He writes like no other, with great plots, characters and story lines. And boy does he know how to write a sex scene. Completely enjoyed this story.

I really am a fan of Cox!
Written by Jo Newton on 3rd Apr 2016

(Get your mind out of the gutter! Perv.) I think I remember reading in the front of this book that this was James Cox's first contemporary romance. Or something to that effect. I think he did a magnificent job with this book. Phoenix really steals your heart. How fitting considering he is a thief. *grins* I adored him and my heart broke for his situation with his mama. Lucas was so cute with all his blushing! Even though he likes to take control in the bedroom and is the dominant one, the blushes just added a bit more likability. Cox is incredibly gifted at creating these worlds and characters that just suck you in and hold you hostage till you've reached the last page. I freely admit that there was a bit of pouting when I got to the end cause I hate it when a good thing ends. I've only read four of Mr. Cox's *snickers* books but I can already attest that anything written by him is worth your time and attention. I look forward reading more of his books!

Just wonderful!

They say it takes a thief to catch a thief and the author showed us just how true that statement really is. But of course, we are talking James Cox here, he delivered it in his own unique way, it was clever, down right sexy and so much fun! Phoenix is the kind of thief that can steal hearts, but you would gladly give yours away for free where he is concerned and my adorable blushing Lucas was just that.....adorable. I've read all James Cox books, everyone is brilliant in their own way, this was no exception. The Cox dangled this little jewel in such a tempting way, he too stole my heart. Well done author, another winner on your hands.

Wow, just wow! This being James Cox's first contemporary story left me being more than excited to get it in my greedy hands to finally read it. And I like it, no, I LOVE it! It's something new but James just has done it again, as always, of course! Phoenix and Lucas, both are just adorable, sexy and a love at first sight crush the reader has to fall for. I did, oh and how I did. How could one resist a cute sexy blond seducer and his "target" Mr Dark and Handsome whose jewels he's hunting after?! The story has it all: drama, steamy hot sex, an very, very interesting kind of piercing, romance, a hint for a second Chance...but will he take it? Will he get his HEA? I couldn't put it down before knowing that answer for sure, and neither will you. So what are you waiting for? Grab your copy of the latest jewel by James Cox, you know you want it!
