Romance on the Go ®

Ava is eager to say “buh bye” to 2017. After her parents’ health woes, totaled car, deceased pet, and legal worries, what else could go wrong on the last night of December?

Stood up for her friends’ party, all dressed up and no place to go, she returns her secretive neighbor’s escaped dog.

Next door, Caleb’s not faring much better. His career and marriage are over, and the only bright spot in his future is the disobedient dog he’s adopted, until his sexy neighbor turns up on his doorstep.

Caleb extends a neighborly welcome to Ava and their evening is full of banter and candor, a refreshing change for both. The skinny dip in the hot tub to ring in the New Year signals what could be an unexpected and wonderful new beginning—with each other.

Excerpt:

“Hi,” he said, leaning to the side to eye what she held at her hip. “Delivery?”

She tipped her lips in a chagrined smile. “Yeah. Mine. Which I received ten seconds before my front door shut and locked behind me.”

“Uh oh.”

“More like ‘fuck me.’”

He raised his brows. If you say so. Jerking off had gotten so very old. “Things aren’t going so hot tonight, huh?”

“You could say that.” Ava hitched the pizza boxes higher on her hip and sighed. “Anyway, my phone is locked in my house and I don’t have a spare key outside. Is there any chance I could borrow your phone to call for someone to bring me their spare?”

“No problem.” Privacy is overrated, isn’t it? Releasing his grip on the doorframe, he nodded. “Come on in. Let me grab my phone.”

“Actually, I can make a deal. I’ll share half of this grub with you in exchange for intruding to make a phone call.”

Intruding? Hardly. He admired her non-creepy forwardness. “You’re on.”

Long and Short Revies LASR

There’s nothing wrong with staying in on New Year’s Eve, especially if there’s a distractingly handsome stranger living next door. The chemistry between Ava and Caleb was fabulous. They both had the same wry sense of humor. This was definitely a good thing given how often both of them liked to respond to serious conversation topics with a joke. There is plenty room for a sequel here. While I was satisfied with how this particular tale ended, I’d be thrilled if the author decided to continue exploring the lives of these characters in the future. They’ve only just begun to get to know each other, and I already love them together. This is a minor criticism, but I would have liked to see a little more time spent explaining why Caleb adopted such a rambunctious dog. I totally understood why he’d want companionship, but I would have expected him to choose a much calmer animal due to his medical problems. Had this been explained more thoroughly, I would have easily chosen a perfect rating for this story. I deeply appreciated how much time the characters had to build up their sexual tension before anything happened between them. By the time one of them finally made a move, I was silently cheering in my mind as I read on to find out what happened next. This was exactly the right choice for Caleb and Ava. New Year’s Next Door was a short, sexy read that I’d recommend for anyone who doesn’t mind some humor in their erotica.

The Romance Reviews

Fantastic evening read! When a woman finds herself suddenly without plans on New Year's, she doesn't expect to also be lectured by a stranger for the actions of a dog. A dog that belongs to her mysterious neighbor. Yet, after returning the dog and meeting the man next door, she realizes he's not the strange hermit she thought he was. As the two begin to bond over pizza and tragic events, they discover what they were looking for might have been right beside them all along. Short doesn't have to mean lacking. This book proves just that. From the first page, I hung on every word that the author wrote. And while the whole story spans a single day, it was filled with funny dialogue, entertaining backstory, and great chemistry between the couple that ended with a bang. What more could you ask for? Both of our characters were likable and nicely fleshed out. I felt terrible for Ava when her friends dumped her and it was so easy to connect with her story. She was quirky but courageous. And Caleb was an enticing slice of man, I must say. I fell for him immediately and I loved the humor between these two. The couple moved quickly, but I didn't mind it since their attraction was off the charts. The love scene at the end was steamy--and not just because of the hot tub. I could easily and happily read an entire novel or two with this adorable couple. And though I don't usually care for pets in books, I thought the dog was a cute addition too. Five stars!

Oh, What the New Year Will Bring
Written by M. Smith on 9th Jan 2018

I don't know about anyone else, but I can relate to Ava. There was one year not too long ago that just needed to end. It'd been one tragedy after another, and I couldn't wait for the year to end. That was in April. I do love Ava's attempt at attempting to have one final "Yay!" moment before the year ended, but I hated how her friends treated her and turned that "Yay!" into a "WTF?!" moment instead. They weren't friends at all. But then she met Polly, Caleb's dog, which inevitably led her to meeting Caleb. They clicked in that insta kind of way without that overwhelming sense of lust or want or desire. While Caleb felt all of that for Ava, it wasn't there for her. Probably because she was never aware of him watching her. It did happen though as they spent the night together, talked and laughed, ate, swam, slept. The intimacy between them seemed natural, odd since they didn't know each other long. When you know, you know, right? This story is amazingly sweet despite the heat packed into the second half of the book. I wouldn't classify this as insta-lust or -love. It doesn't carry the weight or urgency those stories do. It's slow and easy, humorous, and, like I already said, sweet with the right amount of heat. A romance to read more than once, and author that I will read more of.

A quick steamy holiday read
Written by LWOLF on 22nd Dec 2017

I absolutely loved this book. It is the perfect quick hot steamy read. I'm not always the biggest fan holiday centered / themed romances just because they don't do a whole lot for me, but this one was uniquely set on New Year's Eve and I loved the whole theme of change and starting something new for the new year. Especially considering the good change and starting something new was a new relationship and a new beginning for the characters. I really liked the chemistry between Caleb and Ava. And loved how they met, and how open and honest they were with each other. And I will admit that I absolutely hated Ava's so-called friends. I sincerely hope that they ate some bad shrimp at their New Year's Eve party and spent the whole night throwing up in the bathroom. What they did to Ava was completely horrible. They are the worst sort of friends and if the book had been longer I could totally see them coming back, try to use Ava and trying to capitalize on who Caleb is to try and meet his former teammates. So that was an added benefit to the book being a nice quick read, no having to deal with more of the horrible friends. If you're looking for a hot & steamy, holiday read... Totally pick this one up! This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review
