The Umbra Shifters, 2

Ethan Stone, lion shifter, had lived many lives. He’d been a biker, musician, and an Umbran, or shadow hunter. Everything changed two years ago when a nightclub fire killed the members of his rock band and left him the only survivor. Now scarred and living the solitary life of a nomad, Ethan just wants to be left alone in his isolated world.

Daric McNamee, a cheetah shifter and also an Umbran, has been given an assignment. Ethan Stone. Find out what happened the night of the fire and recruit Stone back into the Umbran. Not an easy task considering Ethan is stubborn and wary. Almost immediately, both men feel a mate connection, but the last thing Daric wants is to be a submissive to a scarred, terminally angry lion shifter.

However, the attraction between them can’t be denied—though Ethan tries. When it comes time for them to part, will they admit they are mates? Can Daric convince Ethan he is more than a stone cold beast?

Read The Umbra Shifters, 1 in Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition

Excerpt:

Ethan’s insides bubbled with a stark fury that seemed to cloud his vision as well as his thoughts.  As he lumbered toward Daric McNamee, a flood of emotions stirred inside him, a potent mixture of anger, arousal, and to a much lesser extent, amusement.  Also a few emotions he couldn’t name.

It had been a long time since someone stood up to him. He stopped before the cheetah shifter.  He had five or six inches of height and thirty or more pounds on the guy, so it would be no surprise who would emerge as victor.

The man stared up at him with an expression of compassion. He just sent the guy sailing across the room, and McNamee should be pissed. Instead, he gave him a look of such poignancy it speared Ethan’s cold heart.  Not pity, that expression on people’s faces he was well acquainted with especially after the fire. In an instant, the fury rushed out of him. He held out his hand to McNamee.

“Sorry,” Ethan said, his voice gruff and low.

McNamee stared at the outstretched hand then glanced back at his face. Subconsciously Ethan ducked his head, letting his hair fall across the scars. Ethan was at a loss for words, so he shrugged. How could he explain his actions when he didn’t even understand them himself?

McNamee took his hand and Ethan pulled him to his feet. He didn’t let go. In fact, Ethan squeezed it, reveling in the warmth and comfort that flooded his soul from the touch of this man. Sensual energy sparked between them. No denying it, it surrounded them, cloaking them both. Ethan even leaned in as if to kiss those gorgeous full lips. But he stopped and dropped the hand as if he’d been shocked with a bolt of electricity. Ethan stepped back. This couldn’t be happening. Not after all these decades. Ethan had pretty much accepted he would never feel the mate connection. He cleared his throat and turned away.

I liked “Stone Cold Beast” because I like shifter romances a lot and the author did a great job with the plot. Ethan and Daric had a hot intense passionate attraction from the first. The story line was very good and worth the read. Ethan is scarred and angry at life. An energetic and easy going Daric made for a roller coaster read. My question through the book was were they or weren't they? I kind of like those reads a lot it keeps the pacing and interest of the reader. This book is the second of the series and I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can read it. I like visiting friends through the series. This one I will gladly recommend for the good read that it is.

Daric is being punished for past deeds by being sent to nowhere to find the reclusive Ethan Stone. What he finds when he arrives is more than he bargained for. Ethan Stone is damaged goods in more ways than one, and he is shocked to be drawn to Daric. When Daric looks and touches him with gentleness, he is unable to deny the mate he is sure he does not want. Daric and Ethan are shocked by their connection but unable to walk away. The distance between their homes and lives seems to be insurmountable. Lost love will teach them that sometimes it is better to make it work, but can these two males give up going their own way and find a path together? Stone Cold Beast provides a mountain of hotness with the sexy Ethan. Karly Germain gave Ethan the edge he needed to be seen as a victim instead of the strong alpha male he is. I found Daric to be just alpha enough to be perfect as the mate of a male so damaged, the alpha may never be able to leave his hideaway. Stone Cold Beast is a very good read, and I will be looking for more stories about Karly Germain and the Umbra Shifters. - See more at: http://coffeetimeromance.com/BookReviews/stonecoldbeastbook2bykarlygermain.html#.U5M2Dugo5dh

Although the relationship starts suddenly, I like the fact that each person in this world has the choice to accept or reject his mate. These two work through a lot of conflicting emotions and I enjoyed the surprise cameo of Ethan's great-grandparents and how the healing in their relationship leads to his taking a chance on his own. I wish there had been more clarity about the situation that Daric and his brother were involved in, but I suppose that may be setting up another story in the future. Overall, I can see this series as one to keep your eye out for future installments.

MM Good Book Reviews

This is part two in a wonderful series and should be read in order. The first book is in The Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition Anthology. I really liked book one and I love this book just a bit more. It gives you wonderful characters who you will fall in love. They have the abilities to overcome all their pain and turn it into a blessing. Ethan was an Umbran, usually undercover doing all sorts of things. Bier, musician, shadow hunter didn’t matter when the nightclub fire killed everyone except himself. He always felt cold and alone. He didn’t know if there was anything in him left to care for another. When Daric showed up to take his statement concerning the fire, he was pissed to say the least. What he had not expected was the lust he could smell in the air. Could he take the chance, could he just make a one night stand or should he kick him out. What he had not expected was the fact that they were mates. This story is cute and very tender. I would recommend this to anyone who loves shapeshifters, vampires, the paranormal world, two hot and sexy men, and great sex. I do love this series, wished it was a bit longer though. I love to lose myself into a story and this one made it an enjoyable trip.
