Police Officer Ben Wilde is married to his work, and he wants a divorce. A third generation cop, he knows the price his career demands, but he still hopes for more out of life than taking down criminals and late nights with his canine partner, Chase.

Veterinarian Kelly Towers loves all animals, but she has a special place in her heart for Chase and Ben, his human handler. When her clinic is broken into, it brings the sexy Chicago cop and his four-footed partner to her door, and the sparks that have been smoldering between them finally combust into flames.

Two passionate souls, two demanding careers, and too many secrets lead to a wild chase...

Be Warned: spanking

“One of us is still wearing clothes,” he pointed out, sliding his fingers beneath the lace sides of her panties and moved them over her hips. He dropped to his knees as he pushed them down her calves, pressing a kiss to her navel before letting his tongue swipe several slow, lazy circles around her belly button. When he finally got her panties to her ankles, she stepped out of them, letting him see her for the first time.

She fought the urge to cover herself with her hands when his gaze traveled the length of her body and back again. She knew her body wasn’t perfect, but the way he was looking at her helped to banish the last concerns from her mind. He was staring at her as if she was the most beautiful woman in creation, and it melted Kelly’s heart. Without a word she stroked her fingers into his wet hair and bowed over him to press a kiss to the top of his head.

“Mine,” he muttered, the single syllable so softly she barely heard it. Before she could react, he buried his face between her thighs, his hands coaxing her legs wider as he nuzzled against her slick curls. Hot breath fanned over her wet skin, his mouth nuzzling against her outer lips.

Feeling off balance, Kelly reached for the corner post of the bed, needing the support. She sank down onto the edge of the mattress and Ben growled in approval. He dropped his shoulders one at a time as he coaxed her legs wider, working his shoulders between her knees until she was completely open before him. “Lie back and let me taste you, baby.”

The moment Kelly stretched out on the bed, Ben had her legs draped over his shoulders and his mouth on her pussy. His tongue danced in tiny circles around her swollen clit, coming achingly close before moving away again. “Ben, please!” she heard herself begging, but he just chuckled, the vibrations adding another level to her pleasurable torment.

Again and again he tasted and teased, never quite giving her enough stimulation to let her find her release. Kelly’s pulse was thundering as if she’d just run a race and her fingers were curled into the quilt, kneading at it in time to the flicking of Ben’s tongue. She pressed down on his shoulders, using him to lever her hips off the bed in a silent demand for more.

This time he rewarded her by sucking her clit into the heat of his mouth, holding it carefully between his teeth. He lashed at the tender nub until she was hovering on the edge of an orgasm as fierce and wild as the storm still raging outside. That was when he plunged two fingers inside her, pushing her past her limits.

She came on a cry, her body arching high off the bed as every cell of her body was saturated with pleasure. The feeling was so intense that she lost herself for a time, only drifting back to the here and now when she felt Ben moving.

“Kelly?” he spoke her name in hushed tones. The bed dipped as he lay down beside her, tugging her limp body into his arms.

She opened her eyes and smiled when she saw his handsome face looking down at her. “Hello, sexy.”

He leaned in to kiss her, one hand threading into her hair as the other stroked down her back to cup her ass. “I think watching you come is my new favorite thing in all the world. You are gorgeous when you let yourself go like that.”

“Want to see it again?” She waggled her brows at him, laughing as he grinned and nodded eagerly.

“Hell yes I want to see that again, and again, and again. I told you, baby, once I got you upstairs you were staying here all night. I have plans for you, and they don’t involve sleeping.”

Want a wonderful, short novella that entertains with a hot hero and an intelligent heroine? Add in a smart dog, loving family, hot sex and an actual plot that can be read quickly, pick up this story! Police Officer Ben Wilde and his canine partner Chase have been wanting to ask Veterinarian Dr. Kelly Towers out for months, but something always got in the way. When Kelly calls in a break-in at her clinic, Ben and Chase decide to check on her and she asks him out. The plot takes off from there and in only 89 pages Ms. Hayes gives you realistic scenes that are sexy, hot, fun, sad and worth every minute of your time. Ben has a big, loving family with four brothers that I am looking forward to meeting in future books by this author and hopefully hearing more about Ben and Kelly. This is a great start to a new series that I will definitely be reading! - See more at: http://erotic.theromancereviews.com/viewbooksreview.php?bookid=16565#sthash.so2f84me.dpuf

Long and Short Reviews

When Kelly Towers’ phone rings after ten pm she considers hurling it out the window. As a vet she’d accepted the long days and frequent late-night callouts, but life had been particularly hectic recently. Answering the call, she finds their newest hire, Tina, had left the alarm off all night to go on a date. Fearing the worst, Kelly rushes in to work only to find the place being burgled. When she calls the cops, Officer Ben Wilde and his furry partner, Chase, answer the call. I found this to be a really fun, well written story. I loved how the author gave both Kelly and Ben time to get to know each other a bit before jumping into bed, but kept their chemistry sizzling hot enough that the progression to intimacy didn’t feel rushed or fake. I thought it was a bit overt in the introduction of the other Wilde brothers, but good PR on the authors part. The brothers are rambunctious and interesting and will certainly draw more readers into getting their hands of future books in my opinion. Equal parts sweet and sensual, I found this to be a lighthearted romance with plenty of scorching sex. This is a great read for those who like their erotica fun and sexy at the same time. I also appreciated how Chase didn’t mysteriously disappear from the story the moment Ben and Kelly hooked up. All too often cute pets/companions are left to linger in limbo once the action starts. Chase is clearly a working police dog, but also an equally important companion in Ben’s home life as well. The only down side I felt was that the conflict (a fight between Ben and Kelly and the following consequences) seemed a little too simple – too clichéd in how it comes about and too easily resolved to take it seriously. I feel if there was a stronger conflict – something fresher or different – this would have been a much stronger book. But this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of it, just made me a bit disappointed and took what could have been a well-rounded, excellent book down into being just a really good one. For a fun, lighthearted, sexy romance this is a good book from an author I plan to keep an eye out for. With good pacing, interesting characters and great sex scenes this ticks a number of boxes for my reading tastes. Recommended.

I liked how he groveled and made up for it in the end, and I liked how Kelly was so compassionate toward one of the clinic robbers at the end of the book. Sometimes I think the world needs more people like her, willing to look beyond the surface. I like Susan Hayes’ work and will look her up again in the future.

K9 police officer Ben Wilde is tired of his job running his life. In fact, he knows just the woman he’s ready to break out of his routine with, if he can ever get around to asking her out. When Dr. Kelly Towers walks in on a break in at her veterinary practice, Ben find his protective instincts running rampant. As their relationship heats up, Ben can’t help pointing out dangers around her and issuing commands on what she needs to do to stay safe. Kelly has been through more than she’s told Ben and isn’t about to be treated like a piece of glass. When the men who broke into the clinic return one evening and grab Kelly, she finally realizes how much Ben and his four legged partner Chase mean to her. But will they be able to get to her in time for her to tell him that? This was a really fun fast read. The chemistry between Ben and Kelly is immediate and hot, but I also loved that even in a relatively short story you got great side characters. Ben and his brothers provided some really great comic moments. Even Chase has a definite personality. In fact, I enjoyed the heat between Ben and Kelly so much that I can’t wait to read what I’m hoping will be more stories featuring Ben’s other brothers.

I really liked both human characters as well as the canine one. Chase played a huge part in Ben’s life and Kelly was totally on board with that. Her life’s work centers around animals after all. While I understood Kelly’s decision about her job, I had to wonder at her sense of self-preservation sometimes, but then there wouldn’t be a story, would there? The chemistry between Kelly and Ben was believable and enviable Ben is one of five brothers and has always been the quiet one. But if he wants a chance at the woman on his radar he better get moving. When circumstances regarding her workplace place her in danger, Ben and his K-9 co-worker Chase put themselves on the job to the woman they both think the world of. I really enjoyed the family interaction that highlighted the relationships Ben had with his four brothers as well as his parents. These are normal people living normal lives and that made the story a refreshing change of pace amidst all the shifter and paranormal books on the market right now. Very well done evolution of a professional relationship to personal one, with lots of spice and humor along the way.
