The female main character is a survivor of domestic and child abuse and has fled an abusive cult. The story does a particularly good job of showing how religion can be weaponized and how, in some cults and abusive religious environments, the issue is ultimately less about belief and more about power and control.\r\n\r\nI also appreciated the way the book addresses how easily we judge people based on appearances or preconceived ideas. It encourages looking beyond the surface and approaching people with an open mind. At the same time, it shows how much courage it can take to stand up for another person, particularly when doing so comes with real consequences.\r\n\r\nAnother important aspect is the focus on healing. The story touches on body-image struggles and the process of overcoming the damage caused by abuse. I especially appreciated the emphasis on consent and the importance of continuing to ask for consent rather than assuming that it has been given simply because a relationship exists.\r\n\r\nThere are a few moments where I questioned the characters' decisions and thought that certain choices were a little strange. However, those issues didn't outweigh the overall message for me. The important topics are woven into the romance rather than simply presented as a lesson.\r\n\r\nUltimately, if this book helps even one person recognize a form of abuse, realize that they aren't alone, or find the courage to seek a way out of an abusive situation, then it has accomplished something far more meaningful than simply being an entertaining romance. This is Shiloh and Jade’s story, and at its heart, it is about surviving a very dark kind of hell and finding love, strength, and a found family willing to help pave the road back into the light.\r\n\r\nI do not want to give away too much of the storyline because part of the impact comes from discovering Shiloh’s story as it unfolds. What I will say is that Jade and Shiloh are goners for each other from the moment they meet. The attraction is immediate, but because of everything Shiloh has endured, accepting love and trusting that someone truly wants to protect rather than control her is not easy.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments in the book comes when Shiloh reclaims her own strength. There is a point where she decides that another person does not get to control her life or continue to hurt her in every way imaginable. She does it in a totally magnificent manner. That shift is powerful because it is not about someone else saving her. It is about Shiloh recognizing that she still has a say in what happens next, and thankfully, she does not have to walk that path alone.\r\n\r\nHer found family is there for her every step of the way, offering the kind of loyalty, protection, and support that makes MC romance so satisfying when it is done well. Jade may be fiercely protective, but Shiloh’s journey is still very much her own, and I appreciated that balance.\r\n\r\nThis book is a page-turner. I read almost the entire thing in one sitting, after all, a girl does have to work. There is plenty of action, drama, suspense, intrigue, and steamy romance, along with characters who are engaging enough that you might not object to having a beer with them...or maybe letting one of them give you a tattoo.\r\n\r\nThere is also clearly more trouble on the horizon as the MC continues working to get a dangerous new drug off the streets. That larger storyline keeps the series moving forward and makes it pretty obvious that we have not seen the last of the chaos. After all, these men are seriously alpha protectors of their MC, their women, and their town. \r\n\r\nAnd if I am reading the signs correctly, Nero may be up next. I certainly hope so, because he is my secret crush in this MC, and I can hardly wait to see what Beth D. Her best friend takes her out to a bar and there she sees Jade and her world stops. Jade is a member of the Sons of Sin MC. While shooting pool, he sees Shiloh and his world stopped too. When he comes to her rescue outside the bar, she doesn't think she'll see him again. Knowing she can't go back to the bar, she looks for a coffee shop. She finds a diner and decides to go there. Once inside, she is greeted by a waitress who sees a lot of herself in Shiloh. She sees the pain and puts her ar ease. A few days later, Shiloh returns to the diner and runs into Jade. Unknown to Shiloh, her life is about to change forever and she will discover a strength she didn't know she had. This is so well written that it will keep you engrossed until the end.
