Sheridan Pack, 7

Tavish MacAlary had always been a man of two worlds. As a Highland Scotsman, he was steeped in tradition, honor, and the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Yet, beneath his stoic exterior lay a secret: his wolf was a legacy he had long resented. He had never felt a connection to his wolf, viewing it as a curse rather than a gift.

Mairi had loved Tavish since they were children, her heart entwined with his in a way that felt destined. But the love that once brought her joy had turned to ash when she overheard him call her a gold digger. In her heartbreak, she fled to her cousin in Sheridan, Colorado.

Years later, her quiet refuge is shattered when Tavish walks through the door, holding divorce papers. Yet with one look at her, his wolf comes alive, demanding his mate. His world is turned upside down. Now, as Tavish sets out to win back Mairi’s heart, he discovers that the bond they share is deeper than he ever realized. Can the power of second chances lead to forgiveness?

Excerpt:

It was the mystery woman from the diner. Once again, his wolf surged forward and the word mate roared through his head.

“Excuse me, lass,” he murmured, stepping back. “I saw you in the diner.”

“So, you did.”

Twilight had started to fall, and in the muted light he searched her features for any sign that she felt the same. He had never believed in the romantic stories of finding a mate. That you could find the love of your life simply from a scent. Yet, here she was, smelling like warm cinnamon rolls with vanilla icing melting on top. For the first time since his initial transition, his wolf no longer felt disconnected from his sense of self. The beast no longer an unwanted entity residing within. With one inhaled fragrance from his mate, everything changed. It was different. He was different. He might not be a free man yet, but it was extremely hard to ignore the calling in his soul.

“What’s your name?”

She tilted her head as she stared at him, curiosity resting in her scowl. He reached up and smoothed out the frown line between her eyes. She flinched and jerked back, and he held up his hands.

“I won’t hurt you.”

“I didn’t give you permission to touch me.”

“You’re absolutely right,” he said solemnly. “I apologize for overreaching.”

He expected her to back away, but instead, she tilted her head to study him. It gave him hope that she felt the same pull he did.

“Do you have business with Alpha Jericho?”

“Nae,” he replied. “I’m here for personal reasons.”

“You’ll be gone soon?”

“Tomorrow.”

She searched his eyes as if looking for something, and looked disappointed when she didn’t find it. A moment of silence stretched between them before he cleared his throat.

“I, ah, didn’t believe in scent-matched mates,” he confessed.

“I did,” she said softly.

“I’m sorry it took me so long to get here.”

She gave a ghost of a smile, but it only emphasized the sadness in her eyes. He wanted to ask what was the matter, and wipe away the furrow between her eyes.

“Do you want a scent-matched mate?” she asked.

“I…” His words faltered, wondering how he could explain his predicament. “I can’t.”

“Can’t? Or don’t?”

“I’m not sure,” he replied, honestly. She deserved the truth. “There’s so much static in my head that I can’t seem to settle on any one thought, but I have to be honest with you. I’m not free, even if I did want a fated mate. You see, I’m a married man, although it’s not a marriage I want. Regardless, I can’t disrespect her.”

Redemption
Written by ObsessiveReader on 21st Dec 2025

Another good installment to the Sheridan Pack series. Tavish comes looking for Mairi for a divorce but finds out she is his fated mate. This isn't a story of quick forgiveness, Tavish has to work to win Mairi back. I love reading Beth D. Carter's books.

They took the long road.
Written by Roberta R on 21st Dec 2025

Tavis and Mairi are moon fated mates but because of a misunderstanding after their wedding she ran. She was under the impression he hated her but he did not remember her from childhood. Once they reconnected in person the mate bond snapped into place. It took time but they fell in love again. Such a cute, steamy short novella everyone should read. I highly recommend this book to all paranormal romance readers.

Moonmated
Written by Redfaeryrose on 21st Dec 2025

I was really impressed with how our MMC showed genuine remorse for his previous arrogance. He openly acknowledged his actions and went above and beyond to make things right. I truly appreciated his sincere apologies, and I have no doubt that he will win the love of his mate.

Shifter mates second chance romance
Written by itsthejo on 21st Dec 2025

Although this is Book 7 of the Sheridan Pack series it can be read as a standalone. The plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. The characters drove the storyline and they were very compelling and complex and complicated and absolutely perfect for each other. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!

Second-chance romance
Written by Emmellen on 21st Dec 2025

I quite enjoyed Highland Mate. It functions as both an independent romance and as part of an overall series with a through plot. This is a second-chance romance. Mairi and Tavish married by proxy, and he only married her to gain control of his family’s company. Mairi thought the boy she remembered from her youth would do better by her, and she’s crushed to discover she’s just a means to an end. So off she goes from Scotland to Sheridan, Colorado, where the Sheridan Pack lives. I really loved Tavish and Mairi’s story. It starts with him seeking a divorce after several years of separation, but this idea gets thrown out the window when he realizes she’s his fated mate. Tavish has a lot of ground to make up, and added to that is his complicated relationship with his wolf. He has to realize the wrong he did Mairi, and she has to realize that his skewed upbringing has twisted his interactions with his wolf and pack life in unexpected ways. Add to this a plot about a mysterious death in the pack’s grounds along with the differences between wolf life in Scotland and wolf life in the Sheridan pack, and you’ve got a lot to explore in a relatively short book. Carter is an excellent writer, so this story moved along really well. I loved Tavish’s groveling and how he is both naïve and cynical, while Mairi is gun shy. They made for a great couple, and Highland Mate made for a wonderful read.

Love this redemption story!
Written by Jes7s7 on 21st Dec 2025

Mairi and Tavish was a cute redemption story that came together nicely. I enjoyed how Lavish was proved wrong about his wolf and instead of fighting against it all, he set out to learn what he needed to win back Mairi. The other element of the story was a 2 for 1 and made for a great ending that I cannot wait to finish.

So good!
Written by Shelly44 on 21st Dec 2025

What a wild ride! So good! I have read the other novels in this series and really enjoyed them. This novel did not disappoint. This novel pulled me in and held on tight until the very last chapter. I really enjoyed Travis married Mairi's story. I loved watching Travis chase down Mairi after he misjudged her and realized she was his mate. I loved watching their walls and defenses come down and fall in love. Their chemistry was so good! Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. So good!

Rejected mate
Written by Joreads on 21st Dec 2025

Tavish is forced into an arranged marriage with Mairi. Instead of meeting her the marriage is done by proxy and when she overhears what he thinks about her she does a runner. Years later he tracks her down with the intent of getting a divorce. When he sees her for the first time his absent wolf comes to life and she realises she is his mate. Can he win her over after the hurt he has caused. This is a brillant read with a mystery thrown in for good measure.

Learning to be wolf
Written by vickymeowmeow on 21st Dec 2025

Really good multi-level story. She overhears him saving things about her and leaves. When he finds her again it's to ask for divorce but there's a twist and some groveling and some wooing. Sex is moderately spicy though the description isn't graphic or crude and it doesn't overwhelm the story. I enjoyed this story very much and will definitely read it again.

true love finds its way
Written by laura.lovesreading on 21st Dec 2025

I read the blurb and was instantly so intrigued that I started reading right after downloading. It’s a story that combines magic, being a shifter and what comes with it, a broken heart, hurt feelings, learning and being your true self, danger, redemption, fate, reconnecting, fated mates and love. I enjoyed it, even though I found it a bit repetitive (especially Mairi) and I would have loved it to go a bit deeper, it’s an good story for all fated mates/shifter lovers. The story ends with an happy ever after, but leaves room for new stories to tell.

Entertaining and engaging second chance romance
Written by LBing on 21st Dec 2025

This was another engaging addition to the series and I loved the rejected mate trope. Travis married Mairi under duress by his Gma, and did it through proxy. He figured Mairi was a gold digger and now, three years later, he wants a divorce. Ha! Mairi fled to the US after overhearing her childhood friend and husband smack talk her... Yeah, this is a page turner filled with misunderstandings, a lack of connection to his wolf side, emotions, groveling and a hot HEA. There's also mystery, drama, danger and wonderful side characters. I can't wait for the next book to see how the Red Plague continues to wreak havoc on the Sheridan Pack and if they can find a cure. Definitely recommend :D

A steamy read with 2 storylines on the go. A rejected wife, a divorce, and a fated mate? An alpha who has no idea he’s an alpha, who has no idea how to be a wolf… Unrequited love and a surprise meeting. Add in a mystery in the form of a disease, and new ‘people’ to town… You’re hooked, because you need to know what’s going to happen next!
