Excerpt:

I don’t sleep after Knox tells me I am his mate.

That would require my brain to be reasonable, and apparently, my brain has resigned from service.

I lie in bed with the blankets pulled to my waist, staring at the same cracked ceiling I have counted every night since Aldron gave me this apartment. Seven cracks. Eight, if I count the small one above the window. I know them too well. They are familiar now, which is both pathetic and comforting.

My mate.

The words sit inside me like something alive. Not a chain, not a collar, and not ownership. At least, that’s what Knox said.

The bond doesn’t give me rights over you. It doesn’t make your body mine. It doesn’t turn ‘no’ into ‘yes’.

I close my eyes, and the roof comes back in pieces. Brooklyn air. Knox sitting because I asked. His face beneath my palm. The way he trembled when I touched him, like I had placed my hand on a wound and a prayer at the same time.

I like touching you. I said that. Out loud. To a Minotaur shifter who looks like he could break doors by frowning at them.

My body should regret it, but it doesn’t, and that might be the strangest part.

My body regrets plenty. It regrets closed rooms, red velvet, sweet smoke, footsteps behind me, and hands moving too fast. It regrets sleep. It regrets mirrors some mornings. It regrets the sound of certain laughter before my mind even knows why.

But Knox’s hand on my wrist? His thumb over my pulse? His forehead against mine? There’s no regret. Fear, yes. Confusion, absolutely. Heat, definitely. But not regret.

I roll onto my side and glare at the dark room.

“Traitor,” I mutter to my body.

A soft knock sounds at the door, and I grab the knife beneath my pillow before thought finishes forming. The knock comes again.

“Briana?” Ari calls. “It’s me. I come bearing snacks, emotional damage, and zero judgment.”

I lower the knife and exhale. “That sounds unlikely.”

“Fine. Light judgment. But lovingly.”

I push out of bed and cross the room. When I open the door, Ari stands in the hallway wearing purple sleep shorts, a yellow sweater, and fuzzy socks with tiny dragons on them. Her hair is piled on top of her head in a pink mess, and she holds a paper bag in one hand.

Behind her, Akasha lifts two cups of tea. Of course, there’s tea.

“There are two of you,” I say.

Ari nods gravely. “We travel in packs when men are being emotionally constipated.”

Akasha smiles. “Also, we heard pacing.”

I look down at my bare feet. “I wasn’t pacing.”

Ari glances past me at the carpet. “Your floor disagrees.”

A Heartwarming Shifter Romance About Healing and Trust
Written by Suserla on 26th Jul 2026

This paranormal romance is much more than a fated mates story. At its heart, it is a journey of healing, trust, and finding someone who supports you through your darkest moments. The relationship between the beta shifter hero and his mate develops with patience and understanding. The heroine is working through past trauma, and I appreciated that the story gives her the time and space she needs to heal. Rather than trying to rush her recovery, the hero offers steady support, kindness, and reassurance, allowing their relationship to grow at a pace that feels genuine. The characters are both easy to care about, and their emotional development is just as important as the romance itself. Watching them build trust and strengthen their bond made the story especially satisfying. Overall, this is a heartfelt paranormal romance with lovable characters, emotional depth, and a strong focus on healing. If you enjoy romances where compassion, patience, and mutual support are at the center of the relationship, this is a very enjoyable read.

Sooo Good
Written by JeniT on 26th Jul 2026

Brianna has been through a traumatic experience and was rescued by Aldron and his Gin Room family. Knox is a Minotaur shifter who saw her and knew she was his mate but refused to let his feelings out while she was still healing. He’s protective of her and wants her with every fiber in his soul but refuses to take away her choice. He helps her heal and gives her the space to take her power back. It’s a sweet story that has some darker moments but overall makes your heart happy as they find their HEA.

Shifting Rage!
Written by Mary on 26th Jul 2026

This is part of the multi-author "Monsters of New York" series and can be enjoyed as a stand alone. This story is a slow burn, addictive, dark and somewhat intense. Triggers? Yes, some may think so. This was very addictive, so much so, that I could not put it down until the very end. This is different and I enjoyed this aspect. The story centers around Briana and Knox, but there are a whole bunch of characters that add to the plot. Briana, was taken and attacked by vampires, nearly killing her. She still has nightmares and is not herself but she is so tired of being treated like a wounded human that is made of glass. Knox is a Minotaur shifter who works at the Gin Room. Minotaur take lovers, but rarely do they find their fated mate. The minute he sees Briana, unconscious, pale and hanging on by a thread, he knows she is his mate. His beast screams MINE! He is having trouble controlling his emotions, his rage and the beast within. So there is a slow build between the two but there is so much more going on in this story. The plot is intense with mystery, suspense, action, danger, humor, steamy bits, passion, love, paranormal, magic, witches, vampires, shifters, evil and SO SO much more.

Shifting Rage - another amazing story
Written by Avidreader23 on 26th Jul 2026

I love this series + Jade Marshall is one of my favourite writers = match made in heaven Plot is well paced, we have action, suspense, slow burn, strong survivor FMC, protective MMC, hea I love how patient and respectful Knox is with Briana. Briana has been rescued from brutal vampire ring who kidnapped humans and believed had no rights. Her trauma and pain are raw and can be felt through the pages. How she feels about healing is relatable. Knox is a minotaur and has recognized her as his mate since she got rescued. However, she is recovering from her ordeal and the last thing he wants to do is use the mate bond as another chain on her Recommended

Awesome read
Written by Laura Ann on 26th Jul 2026

Dealing with the aftermath of being taken and fed upon by vampires, she hated that everyone was treating her like expensive glass. Ari & Korbin try to care for her. Knox is a Minotaur and he works at the Brooklyn Gin Room with her. Briana is sick of people asking her how she is doing. Yes, she is healing and that everything will take time. But, she still has nightmares and thus trouble sleeping. She is a human working with the supernatural. Akasha and the others saved her from the vampires. Knox wants her and to protect her. From the moment Akasha and the others returned with a bloody Briana, he had known that she was his Fated Mate. Minotaurs rarely ever get one. He didn’t want to overwhelm her, when she had so much to deal with as it was. Then things get worse. Knox’s twin brother Cruz, teases the heck out of him. Aldron is the owner of this particular Gin Room, and he is an old vampire. He also cares for his people. You can see in how Knox treats Briana how much he is trying to protect her, and yet not give in to his instincts which just make him more grumpy than usual. lol. There are many revelations in the book, some made me feel sick to my stomach. The things we find out after are terrifying and horrifying, because the bad guys are a lot of people. Evil brothers should be dealt with before they do mass casualties. Ari’s antics are hilarious. I love her. Gah, Briana and Knox are just so cute together. When he finally tells her everything, things happen quickly. They are romantic, sweet, tender as well as hot and steamy. It is beautiful. But, then they have to deal with the big bad of evil. I cried and laughed a lot while reading this book. The ending was perfect. I loved it.

Briana has been rescued from a blood room where she is the blood. As soon as Knox sees her he knows she is his mate but she’s not ready yet. This is a wonderful book about Briana fighting to heal from her trauma and Knox doing his best to support her. They have ups and downs through the twists and turns that come but this book is well written with fantastic characters who are realistic in the important ways. Jade Marshall is so creative in these books and I never know what is coming in a great way!

So good
Written by Ssirren on 26th Jul 2026

Loved Knox and Brianna in this. She’d been through so much. And Knox was right there by her side to comfort and take care of her. He was also a Minotaur shifter and she was his mate. But to her that Brant being owned again, and she didn’t that. So she struggled with what that meant. I loved the relationship that they had and I lived even more that Knox was right there to even those that hurt her.

Briana and Knox
Written by LBing on 26th Jul 2026

This was an engaging read that showcases surviving trauma and a slow burn romance. Briana was kidnapped and used as food for vamps without her consent. When she's rescued, everything, like everything, is different for her and those around her. Knox realizes she's his mate but their path to a possible future together is a hard one. He knows he needs all the patience he can muster to support her and let her come to him... Briana is in a hard spot. People are treating her like she's made of glass and while she needs it, she resents it at the same time. She's trying to reclaim her place in the world and knowing Knox is truly seeing her and trying to fight his protective nature is scary but also invigorating. I feel the author did a fab job with her journey and I was rooting hard for her to get to a place where she and Knox could get that HEA. Thankfully, they do and I was gripped, beginning to end to see how that unfolded. I loved it and can't wait for what's next by this author :D

Inspiring Read Knox is patient, quiet and stands in the shadows overlooking her and keeping her safe until the time comes that she can learn to trust again, and he can claim his mate! I loved Knox’s persona and how gentle he could be with her, but dangerous and wild with anyone else. Only Brianna could soothe the savage beast within him. A romantic read with a slow burn to love, overcoming fears, nightmares and coming back into the light in this action packed read filled with danger, secrets, and lots of drama.

This is a great addition to the Monsters of New York series. Briana was rescued from a blood ring and is now living with the trauma. Add to that, being surrounded by non humans, who treat her like she'll break. Knox is a Minotaur shifter and Briana's mate. Watching her recover is hard and he knows he must give her time and space to heal. This is a story about the power of love and finding the strength to overcome a traumatic event.

Having survived a brutal trauma (before the beginning of the book) Brianna is living and working with a group of "monsters" who are helping her to recover. There is a slow burn romance - Knox is so gentle with her despite their relationship and allows her to set the pace. Action comes into play as the source of her trauma wants her back.

A little twisty
Written by Kris08 on 26th Jul 2026

Monsters of New York: Knox and Briana “Let’s introduce them to the woman who survived.” She’s isolated after escping a blood ring and after he discover theyr’re mates, he’s hiding the bond from her… “A mated Minotaur is something else. Devotion sharpened into violence. Possession with a pulse. A beast who will tear down cities to find the one person fate carved his name into. Monsters have already caged Briana, I won’t become another one.” This has plenty of secrets with a few twists… A protective MMC. A lot of tension, a conspiracy, a prophecy, and a huge cast of characters…. It was a little odd, but it was enjoyable.
