Killer of Kings, 2

No mercy. No pity. No women.

Bain has always worked solo, refusing to allow anyone to lord over him. His life has been fucked up enough, and he’s learned trust comes with a price. When he finally accepts an invitation to work for Killer of Kings, he regrets the decision after his first contract. It was supposed to be simple, now there’s a curvy little temptation tied up in his basement.

Scarlett struggles to move up in a career where appearances are everything. When she lands a risky interview with a known crime boss, she hopes it will be her big break as a reporter. Instead, she’s caught up in the middle of an assassination and taken hostage by the hitman. She wants to hate the tattooed devil, but finds herself intrigued by his story. Is it the reporter in her wanting to know more…or the woman falling for a broken man?

Excerpt:

“I don’t understand,” she said.

“You asked why I’m alone.” He walked into his bedroom. Bain twirled her chair around, with her still securely on it, as he left the en-suite. “That’s why. I was forced to be with so many different women for so many fucking years that it numbed me. Emotions, love, everything—it’s all gone. Why would I choose to be with a woman now? I just need to be left alone.”

“People can change, recover from unspeakable horrors. I’ve seen it. I know it’s possible.”

He put on black boxer briefs that hugged his hard ass and strong legs. Scarlett watched him walk about the room from the closet to the dresser. He finally tugged on a pair of navy jogging pants but didn’t put on a shirt. She tried not to be too obvious as she snuck in peeks of him. Would he be as hard as he looked? Bain settled on the corner of his king-sized bed, staring at her with such intensity that her words caught in her throat.

“You have no idea the horrors I’ve lived, sweetheart. I promise whatever you’ve been through is a cake walk compared to my shit life.”

“There’s good left in everyone,” she whispered. Scarlett wouldn’t let him drag her down. She’d been fighting depression for too many damn years. She was barely a shell of woman, fragile and empty. She wanted to think positive, to improve herself and move upward—and she firmly believed Bain could do the same.

He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Those bastards said I was handsome, irresistible to women. That’s why they used me.” Bain stood and approached her, grabbed the edge of her chair and dragged it back to his bed. He sat back down on his mattress, only a breath between them now. “All that’s changed now,” he said.

“What do you mean?”

Bain took her wrist and placed her palm on his chest. His skin was so firm and warm, her pussy throbbing from just that one touch. “Feel me. Really feel me.”

She wasn’t sure what point he was making until she began to smooth her fingertips over his chest, his shoulders, and then his face. With a gentle caress, she traced all the ridges of old scars she hadn’t really noticed until now. He was covered in them. To say she was shocked would be an understatement.

“Not so handsome anymore, eh? I try to hide this shit with ink, but it’s not the physical scars that bother me the most. They’ve fucked up my head so bad that killing’s the only thing that keeps me sane.”

She swallowed hard. “I think you’re perfect.” The words slipped from her lips before she really thought better. It wasn’t a lie. Bain was the roughest, scariest man she’d ever seen, but also irresistible and hardcore in a way that made her body light up for the first time in her life.

Her hand was still on his cheek, his rough stubble tickling her fingers. She noticed the thick scars under his eye, and she was tempted to kiss it better.

Whatever she thought they’d shared—a moment, a breakthrough—was gone when he bolted to his feet as if her touch scorched him.

He paced back and forth, his chest heaving as if he’d just run a two-minute mile. What had she said to upset him? Had she pegged him wrong? Was he ready to kill? Maybe he was about to prove her wrong once again, just as Jerry and Michael had. She didn’t want to believe it, but maybe some people were beyond redemption.

Broken Bastard is oh so good!!! Bain is the male lead and so yummy, he has a dark personality that makes him stand out along with tats from neck to toes. Scarlet is the leading lady and she is beautiful in her own skin. I loved this story because the female lead is older and gets an HEA. This story has a dark storyline but I love reading about characters that have had painful pasts but some how find their one. Happy Reading!!

Night Owl Reviews

Stacey Espino and Sam Crescent follow up the first in their series with deliciously dark heroed love story. Bain is absolutely fascinating and his reaction to Scarlett is practically unbelievable which is what kept me riveted. Having briefly met him in the first story and after the way he meets Scarlett it was practically magic to see the change come over him but it was entirely believable. Scarlett is curvy, not quite confident woman but she is truly determined when it comes to her career. she has the natural curiosity of reporter and I loved how her inquisitiveness overruled her fear. With each piece of himself that Bain reveals his life choices make more sense and it becomes even more miraculous that he has such strong feelings for his captive. The authors weave emotions and action with a gritty situation ad I just couldn't get enough. This was one of those fabulous stories that you can't stop reading and when it ends you want to keep going and are sad there is nothing more left. I cannot wait to see what this series has in store for me next. The Story: Bain is a killer! It's all he's ever known. It's what he has been trained to do. He needs to make the kill at all costs. But when he comes across Scarlett he just can't bring himself to kill her. She brings out foreign feelings in him and he will do anything to keep her safe and in his life.

The TBR Pile
Written by Bella on 4th Jul 2017

Bain’s had a rough life, made rougher by his decision to work for Killer Of Kings but things went awry. Now he’s got a curvy little temptation tied up in the basement…... Scarlett is simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s desperate in her career but when an assassination attempt happens, she’s kidnapped by the hitman Bain. They are a seriously complicated couple but their romance worked deliciously. I like the push and pull between them that ultimately leads to a ‘happy ending’. Is you like dark, twisted romance then you’re going to love this series! Broken Bastard is a must read!

I loved Bain and Scarlett's story, it was well written and kept my interest to the last page. I do like that the characters have a sense of humor even though woman of them are stone cold killers. I would eventually love to read the boss's story.

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book Oh Bain... So strong and all the walls around you, but all you needed was a strong women and someone to love you for you. The two of them were amazing together and it's like they just knew they were meant for each other. These authors writing together and the stories will just make your heart melt. I can't wait to read the next one... Would it be the Boss himself??

I Absolutely loved it ! #TeamBain!
Written by Francesca - Mrs Kissmas! on 22nd Jun 2017

I Absolutely loved it ! When I read book one of this awesome new series I did not think it could be topped! However I was wrong! We saw glimpses of Bain in the first book and I had hoped he would have his story told and we could learn more about him, that he would find a woman that could love him and help restore his broken heart, mind and soul and then in waltzes Scarlett. A beauty inside and out who by chance happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and turns out to be the very one Bain has been hoping for but never thought existed. Separately Bain and Scarlett are both broken and have emotional scars that run deep but together they have an unbreakable bond and form one complete heart that neither ever thought they would have. This story was filled with emotion, passion and character and so beautifully written. I really enjoyed this story and am totally thrilled that Bain and Scarlett found each other and are exactly the strength and loving character that the other needed to become whole. This story was passionate and without doubt perfection. I loved every moment of it and did not want the journey to end. I am desperate for more of this series now with the others guys from the Killer Of Kings and hopefully Boss to will find the oe to bring him to his knees, I have a feeling she is out there somewhere too! Happy Reading!

Written by Lydia Loo on 20th Jun 2017

This was the second book in the series and it was very good. This was Bains story and you get more of Viper too. We see more of The Boss though I'd love to see a story on him too. Very good read with lots of yumminess and action.

Great second book
Written by evam on 20th Jun 2017

This is a great second book to this series. Bain and Scarlet are two badly damaged souls that together are perfect for each other. It is hard to imagine how someone could fall in love with a trained killer, but the authors go beneath the surface and find something completely redeemable about Bain. Who will book three be about? My guess is Killian.

GREAT
Written by Neringa on 19th Jun 2017

I loved first book in the series, but this seems to be even better. Which I confess is a surprise. This story gone path, that I didn't saw. Bain... Damn, that man! After meeting him before, I didn't think, that he will hook my heart. But he did. Beautiful broken man. There's more to him, then you could imagine. In a way it's kinda funny. A killer who softens your heart, it's becomes like a marshmallow. Bain has this kind of power. I liked Bain and Scarlet together. They had interesting synergy. He's a Killer, she's complication, but from the first moment it was like they recognised a kindred soul in each other. Oh, and despite that I'm curious about Boss from the first book, he can be annoying little s***. Lol. But I got a feeling, we didn't meet the real boss. There is lots to uncover about him. But I still hope some girl will bring him to his knees. And will give him what he's missing in his life. I can't wait to see, what 3rd book will bring.
