Cammareri Family, 1

Guilia Rossi
Every little girl fantasizes about her wedding day, but being forced to marry a man that gives me the creeps? It soon becomes less of a dream and more of a nightmare. Getting out of this marriage and away from Salvador Berlusconi is the only thing I can think about. But when I finally get the chance, will I pick the devil I know or the monster I do not?

Alceu Cammareri
Salvador Berlusconi has been a thorn in my side for far too long. Taking Giulia Rossi from him will finally start the war I need to take him out. Permanently. What I never considered is the woman I married. She twists my insides and forces me to feel things I never wanted to feel. But I am not a knight in shining armor, I am the devil dripping in blood. Will she ever be able to accept me for who I am, or will I send her running?

Excerpt:

But I’m tired of eating my meals alone, going to bed alone, and waking up alone. I know he sleeps in the same bed I do simply by how the bedding looks in the morning. That is all I have to go on. It’s why, at almost midnight, I’m sitting in the kitchen waiting for him to come home.

“Fuck!” Alceu roars as he slams the front door, causing me to jump.

He doesn’t see me sitting there as he heads upstairs. But I couldn’t miss him if I tried. He is covered in blood, and my pulse spikes, wondering if any of it belongs to him. I follow behind him when my legs finally allow me to stand. He couldn’t have gotten far.

I find him in the bathroom attached to the main bedroom. Back and shoulders tight, head bowed as he holds on to the basin in front of the mirror.

“Leave, Giulia,” Alceu says lowly.

For a moment, I almost do what he says. But if this marriage is going to last longer than the week, I can’t just run away every time he’s in a foul mood. Instead, I walk past him and start the shower.

“Are you hard of hearing?” he asks as he turns toward me.

“No,” I say as I start undoing the buttons of his shirt.

He grabs my hands in his. “What are you doing?” he asks, looking slightly confused.

“What a wife should do. You need a shower, and I need to burn these clothes,” I reply, shaking his hands off.

“Don’t you care whose blood this is?”

 “Is it yours?”

“No, but—”

I interrupt him. “Then no, I don’t care. I’m going to get a garbage bag. Finish getting undressed and then get in the shower.”

I turn and leave the bathroom without waiting for his reply. My hands are shaking uncontrollably, and I need to get away from him. Alceu is my kryptonite. I don’t know why, but the thought of him being hurt terrifies me.

When I get back to the bathroom, he’s already in the shower. I gather all the clothing and stuff them into the bag before heading downstairs. Outside by the pool, I light a fire in the firepit and wait until it is roaring before I throw in one item at a time. Using a fire poker, I make sure nothing remains of each item but ash before moving on to the next item.

“Thank you,” Alceu says as he places his hand on my shoulder. “You didn’t need to do this.”

“Well, I need to do something. I’m losing my mind,” I don’t turn to look at him as I say this.

“Meaning?” he asks as he takes a seat beside me.

“Even my father let me out of the cage once in a while. Or at least made sure I had some company.” Standing, I leave him alone, yet again worried that I have said too much as I head off to bed.

3.75 stars-- ALCEU is the first instalment and novella in Jade Marshall’s contemporary, adult CAMMAERERI FAMILY dark, erotic, Mafia series. This is head of the Cammareri Family Alceu Cammareri, and Mafia princess Guilia Rossi’s story line. WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. Told from dual first person perspectives (Alceu and Guilia) ALCEU focuses on the marriage of convenience between head of the Cammareri Family Alceu Cammareri, and Mafia princess Guilia Rossi. Guilia Rossi has been ‘promised’ to Salvador Berlusconi, a man of her father’s choosing. An ‘offer’ from south coast Mafia don Alceu Cammareri gives Guilia the option of a marriage of convenience, meant to save Guilia from a man who intends to do her harm, and allow Alceu to take back control from a power hungry rival. Married without the knowledge of her family, Guilia is quickly falling for a man she knows nothing about but a man who promises her everything and more. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Guilia and Alceu, and the potential fall-out as Salvador is determined to reclaim Guilia as his own. The relationship between Guilia and Alceu is one of immediate attraction; a relationship and marriage of convenience in which Alceu promise to protect Guilia and Guilia promises to remain strong. Raised in the Mafia lifestyle, to be the perfect Mafia wife, Guilia becomes both partner and ally to the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to Alceu’s brothers: Severu, Mancuso, and Stefano, as well as Guilia’s parents, her eighteen year old sister Andrea, and Salvador Berlusconi. There is a story developing between Andrea and Stefano. ALCEU is a fast paced, quick read; a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and love. The premise is captivating; the romance is insta-lust to love; the characters are powerful and energetic.

The plot was so fucking good. I loved it. I always have a sweet spot for 'Good Gone Bad' girls who let themselves consumed by the darkness. However, the writing could have been much better than this.

Giulia Rossi is a pawn. She's been promised in marriage to mafia leader, Salvador Berlisconi. Guilia can't stand Salvador. He talks to her disrespectfully and she knows life with him will be miserable. Yet, her father doesn't seem to care and she knows it's because it's been arranged and to back out now would endanger her family. Alceu Cammareri is the head of a rival mafia family. He wants to incite a war with Salvador and has been told his weakness is his fiancee, Giulia. Armed with this knowledge, Alceu approaches her and offers her a deal. A marriage of convenience with him. It protects her from Salvador and he can't retaliate against her family because they'll know nothing of it. Neither of them plan on it being a marriage in the real sense, however feelings manage to creep in. This was a short story and I often struggle with those. However, the author did a wonderful job of establishing detailed characters and a mafia world that they live in with very little time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and didn't feel like anything was missing. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

I loved everything about Alceu, it's a fast paced short mafia romance that immediately sucks you in. From the very beginning, you'll fall in love with Alceu and Guilia. Their relationship from the first moment, all the tropes, everything about this makes you wanting (needing) more. I enjoyed seeing Guilia being a badass, immediately taking lead and taking no shit, making all the boys swoon, even Alceu. The level of pettiness coming from Alceu, and Guilia jumping in head first is amazing. This is my first book by Jade Marshall and it certainly won't be my last. I received an arc of this book and I'm leaving an honest review voluntarily.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. This book was very short and I was disappointed because it wanted it to go on and on! I loved every single moment of this story. I was completely invested within minutes! Kudos to the author! I hope to see some books about the brothers. Anything! Bring me back into their world!

A day wonderland
Written by Eva Tancredi on 8th Jun 2022

I do not like Mafia or Crime family stories, but I love Jade Marshall's writings. I have ever since she started writing. So with that said, WOW, Jade, any time, Beautiful, Any time. Giulia is out shopping for wedding dresses to arrange marriage with a man of not her choosing. Of course, the opposing side is all interested in finding ways to destroy the enemy, and what other way to do this than to steal the bride. I am not one to give all the beautiful details of a roller coaster a ride that Jade gives for a wonderland ride. This story will draw you in and turn the pages with intense omg, not wanting to put away the book. Ok, on with the story. Giulia has her phone set to get a break from the ohhh and ahhhs of everyone ELSES excitement and walks out for an appt. She bumps into a wall of yumminess, and she looks up, and I will let you guess. He proposes, and she accepts. As the story progresses, each side tries to get the girl. With each twist and turn, the heated looks and touching only spark more feelings between Alceu and Giulia. Giulia proves her worth to the brothers at each turn and turns into the queen of the Cammareri Family. The brothers will stop at nothing to protect. As for the relationship between Alceu and Giulia, you only have to read the pages to feel the hot and steam looks coming from them to understand the undercurrent.

This may of been short but it wasn’t sweet. I do love a mafia story. This was incredible. This author manages to keep you on the edge of your seat with Alceu and Giulia’s journey. I loved the twist and turns. It’s sexy and will keep you captivated from the start until the end. What a great start to a new series. Can’t wait for more.

I love this author and all of her characters from her different series. In this book the top Mafia boss is trying to take out a bad mafia boss. He does this by marrying his arranged marriage bride to a made man. Alceu has a plan, but in putting it into action, he starts to fall for his wife Gullah. It comes to his attention that she would make the perfect mob queen, and she proves him right. Guilin, is being forced to marry a man, who with her fathers approval, has been grooming her all her life. She is scared of him and mad at her father for forcing it, when Alceu approaches her about marrying him and not the other guy, she jumps and in doing so, she gains more freedom then she would ever have or had. They start to forge a tight partnership and their feelings turn to lust then love. They take out the bad guy and survives, and they plan for the future.

Written by thriftymomof2 on 6th Jun 2022

Alceu by Jade Marshall is book one in her Cammareri Family series. This is a short, quick romantic mafia read. Guilia Rossi is being forced to marry Salvador, who she strongly dislikes. Alceu Cammareri strongly dislikes Salvador and finds something or someone he can take away from him - Guilia. Great read. Looking forward to more Cammareri Family books.

FANTASTIC
Written by GKP2460 on 6th Jun 2022

Books like this is exactly why it's such a treasure to find new to me authors. This book is absolutely phenomenal. Alceu Cammareri and Giulia Rossi are made for each other. They certainly didn't start out traditionally and they certainly didn't think they would each end up being what the other needed. Giulia is a force to be reckoned with and Alceu loves her fierceness. I can't wait to discover my next read by this author.

Giulia is getting ready to marry a man, Salvador, she can't stand because her horrid father has arranged the marriage. Sal,is even more horrible than her father and he's given her the creeps since she was a little girl. Alceu is the head of the Cammareri family, like the mafia, and he is trying to find a way to get rid of his biggest enemy, Salvador. He comes up with a plan and approaches Giulia with the idea. Alceu thinks he and Giulia should marry each other so she would not have to marry Sal. Giulia agrees, but she has stipulations and Alceu agrees to them. Eventually the two of them end up happy together and it's a bumpy road for them to get there, but it is entertaining and full of action. The story is well written, and I was on the edge of might seat a couple times. There is also a good amount of heat to the story of Alceu and Giulia, it takes a while for them to end up in bed, but when they do look out it's hot. There is plenty of action and some violence, but the violence is not too bad for a mafia book. The book was the perfect word length for me, it was long enough for me to get into the book and become attached to the characters, but not so long that I felt it dragged on. Overall, I thought it was a fantastic way to start a new series.
