A man in a wrinkled suit and a microphone that looked like it came from Best Buy stepped into the ring. “Now for what you’ve been waiting for!” Someone from the audience yelled, “Bring back the tits.” Ignoring him, the man beamed like he was a commentator at the Super Bowl. “Macko versus Crazy Carl!” His friend, Ace, elbowed him so hard he was surprised his lung didn’t end up by his spleen. “Watch this.” Two men entered the ring. It was obvious which one was Crazy Carl. A mammoth man with eyes as wild and big as the women’s breasts stepped forward. Considering his size, he probably had a protein shake IV. The second man, on the other hand, was half his size. Though the other man was about as tall as Devon, he looked tiny next to Crazy Carl. He was toned, shirtless, and all he could think was, Yummy. “Get your tongue back in,” Ace said with a laugh. “Are they really going to fight? They seem … mismatched.” “Watch and learn,” Ace said. “Macko is the best.” The commentator blew a whistle and Crazy Carl went … well, crazy. In a move he could tell even Macko did not expect, he picked up a guy in the first row and hurled him at his opponent. The crowd cheered as the thrown man stood up, cursing, but Macko was leaning to one side. Crazy Carl was coming at him again, and, call it a healthcare instinct, Devon leapt forward. “Stop!” he shouted. Macko’s gray eyes found him, and he knew he didn’t imagine the gratitude in them. Ignoring the boos, he crawled onto the stage, determined to help. But Crazy Carl came at him like a charging bull, and he realized he was now in the fight. He had no idea what made him do it. Stupidity. Self-preservation, maybe. But he pulled out a bottle of cologne from his pocket and sprayed it right in Carl’s face. As he yelled with watering eyes, Devon pulled a YouTube special and thrust the heel of his hand into his nose. Blood spluttered as the cartilage broke. Carl fell to his knees with puddles of blood dripping around him. Holy shit, Devon thought. “A new contender for the fifty grand!” the commentator yelled, grabbing his hand and holding it up. “What? Wait! No!” Devon said, as the crowd roared. His drunken friends were the loudest, hooting and hollering at the top of their lungs.
