“No. You know who I am and why I came here. I didn’t hold anything back from you. I didn’t hide. I’ve been open, honest, and this is who I am. You can hate me all you want, but it’s not going to change anything. I want you, Petra. I promise I won’t ever lie to you again.”
She didn’t move as he waded through the water. They were both at the shallow end, and she made no move to cover herself or to hide.
“I fired you.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not going anywhere. I signed a contract for a year to save your life. If you don’t like my services, I’ll consider walking away, but until then, I will protect your ass.”
“What if I offer you the money for the company?”
“I’ll take it, but it doesn’t mean you’re getting rid of me.”
Before she could make another offer, he slammed his lips down on hers, giving her her very first kiss.

Drake had been dreaming of kissing her for so long. Her inexperience showed, but he didn’t care if she hadn’t kissed a thousand men.
This was her first kiss, he just knew it.
Her hands stayed by her sides for the longest time. He sank his fingers into her hair, tilting her head back and ravishing her mouth, and she let out a little moan. It was such a tiny sound, but he heard it.

She laughed. “Come to terms? Drake, you’re fired. Pack your stuff and get the hell out of my house.” She stomped off and he watched her go.
Drake picked up his clothing and pulled his cell phone out of his pocket. He made a quick call to one of his friends at the precinct, letting him know there was a chance a call could come through and the location.
Once he made sure no cops were going to be stopping by to arrest him, he got dressed and went to her office. He’d made master keys of the house, and putting one into the lock, he found the file on her desk. All the details her assistant, Gale, had told her about him.
He wasn’t going to let this get in the way. On her desk was a picture of her mother. It was clearly taken before she’d gotten ill. Petra looked happy as well. No sign of the husband, which was good.
“I’ll take good care of her, I promise.”
Instead of leaving, he got to his feet, locked her office, and went to the kitchen to make Petra, her favorite meal. Meatballs and spaghetti. He’d found her weakness. She loved it with lots of cheesy garlic bread as well. Rolling his sleeves up, he set to work.
Petra was a curvy, full-figured woman, but after losing an eye and the resultant scarring she’d closed herself off from almost everyone. Only Drake – her bodyguard – had appeared to see beneath the surface, but Petra is reluctant to trust him. Is Drake really what he seems?
I found this to be an interesting and emotional read. Drake in particular was a complicated character with mixed priorities. I was really impressed with how the author turned the usual “hidden motives and telling lies” plotline utterly onto it’s head. It made the entire story feel really fresh and different to me, despite the fact the set-up was rather clichéd. Really early on having the way I expected the plot to unfold was turned inside-out and I loved it. This change-up also really helped me relax and enjoy Petra and Drake learning about each other and slowly come together. I loved how they were both strong and loyal characters and I deeply believed they were well suited to each other. This really helped sell me on the realism of their romance and I was rooting from them as they came together.
There is a healthy amount of conflict in the story and I was pleased this came from Petra’s family and not Petra and Drake’s romance. I really enjoyed watching Petra grow in her self-confidence and how over time she grew to trust Drake. I also thought Drake was wonderfully patient, which really made him seem like hero material to my eyes. Readers who enjoy a slow-romance with heated, erotic sex scenes should find this story really fits the bill for them. With a few twists and turns to keep the plot fresh and interesting I found this a refreshing read and one that managed to surprise me in a good way at a few points along the way.

I will admit that when I started reading this I was mad as a wet hen at Drake. I sure was mad at Petra's dad. He was totally greedy and did not care about Petra. Drake was a man with a more honest approach to his relationship with Petra. Her friend Gale was on point but I almost thought she was trying to get rid of Petra too. I saw she was looking out for her. I totally got on Drake's bandwagon when he got Petra to go on a date with him. I was a liitle in love with him too when he said he would sign a prenup for her just to let her know that his love was all about her not what he started out to do. I was so happy for them. To know that Drake actually saw Petra the woman and not Petra the heiress with scars was a real gift. Some of us have scars of a different nature but we still want to be loved for our selves. This short steamy novel proved that. Once again thank you for my quarantine read.

Petra has had a horrific past and since then has become a hermit in her own home. Drake is her bodyguard and the first time he sees her, he wants her. She's been hurt badly and he knows he has to take his time. Her scars don't bother him and he's going to prove it to her. But there is something he's been holding from her, something that if she finds out, she will kick him out. A cute and short story about learning to love yourself again and love someone after they hid something. Loved it!

Drake in particular was a complicated character with mixed priorities. I was really impressed with how the author turned the usual “hidden motives and telling lies” plotline utterly onto it’s head. It made the entire story feel really fresh and different to me, despite the fact the set-up was rather clichéd. Really early on having the way I expected the plot to unfold was turned inside-out and I loved it. This change-up also really helped me relax and enjoy Petra and Drake learning about each other and slowly come together. I loved how they were both strong and loyal characters and I deeply believed they were well suited to each other. This really helped sell me on the realism of their romance and I was rooting from them as they came together.\r\n\r\nThere is a healthy amount of conflict in the story and I was pleased this came from Petra’s family and not Petra and Drake’s romance. I really enjoyed watching Petra grow in her self-confidence and how over time she grew to trust Drake. I also thought Drake was wonderfully patient, which really made him seem like hero material to my eyes. Readers who enjoy a slow-romance with heated, erotic sex scenes should find this story really fits the bill for them. With a few twists and turns to keep the plot fresh and interesting I found this a refreshing read and one that managed to surprise me in a good way at a few points along the way.\r\n\r\nI found this to be a good and happy read. I sure was mad at Petra's dad. He was totally greedy and did not care about Petra. Drake was a man with a more honest approach to his relationship with Petra. Her friend Gale was on point but I almost thought she was trying to get rid of Petra too. I saw she was looking out for her. I totally got on Drake's bandwagon when he got Petra to go on a date with him. I was a liitle in love with him too when he said he would sign a prenup for her just to let her know that his love was all about her not what he started out to do. I was so happy for them. To know that Drake actually saw Petra the woman and not Petra the heiress with scars was a real gift. Some of us have scars of a different nature but we still want to be loved for our selves.
