Darkness Within Duet, 1

Harper Miller doesn’t want to handle what has happened to her over the past year. Her father left, her mother killed herself, and she still has to be the good girl, the one that doesn’t make waves, who is always nice. But one day, something changes.

No, it’s not something. It’s them.

Draven, Axel, Jett, and Buck. All of them are dangerous, scary, and most people avoid them at all costs. She knows they’re bad news, but Draven’s not willing to take no for an answer, not from her.

For Draven, he and his friends had this idea of finding the one girl that would complete their circle. One girl for all of them. Harper is that one girl, but first she has to go through their initiation to become one of them, to be able to bear their names, and to stand proudly.

All they ask is she remain loyal to them and them alone. No squealing to the cops. No backing down. And above all else, no running away.

All she has to do is give herself, mind, heart, and body. She can keep her soul. It’s dark anyway, just like theirs.

Be Warned: public exhibition

Excerpt:

He locked his car and headed inside to see what was taking her so long.

She wasn’t at her locker, and as he stood out of line of sight, he watched as detention came to an end. A couple of guys headed out, and Harper was the last one to leave, apart from the teacher.

She looked … lost.

He watched her, curious as to what she was doing. What was going on in that head of hers? She looked at the time, and instead of going straight to the parking lot, she didn’t. She went into the bathroom.

His curiosity was always a problem. He followed her inside.

The jacket he’d taken from her was inside his car.

Why was he testing her, pushing her?

Being a bully hadn’t been part of his MO. He never taunted anyone. The guys who got in his way, he made sure to take care of, and the chicks always knew only his dick was on offer, nothing else. He still didn’t understand why he was sticking around with Harper. She was nothing special. They’d been going to the same school since nursery school.

When it came to her, he wanted to push her, to see how far the good girl went.

Stepping into the girl’s bathroom, he saw her at the sink.

She turned her head, and the blue fire in her eyes should have struck him dead and cold.

“What are you doing here?”

He leaned against the wall, folding his hands over his chest. “I’m curious how detention was.”

“Wow, really? Have you ever been to detention?”

“No.”

“I bet you got a slip though, right? The teachers don’t give a shit what you do. You’ve got the right last name. The kind of name that even teachers don’t like to touch.”

He smirked. “You jealous of my last name, Miller?”

“Leave me alone.”

“Is that an order?”

“It’s a request.”

“I don’t take orders.”

“What do you want?” she asked.

“To see … something.”

“So I’m the target this year for your amusement, is that it?”

“You clench your hands often?” he asked, looking at her tight fists.

“You’re so weird.”

She went to pass him, but he put his hand out, stopping her from going.

“Seriously? What?” She folded her arms over her chest.

The glare she gave him turned him on. He’d never seen her look so ferocious. He blocked her exit, watching her.

“I want my stuff back.”

He smirked.

“Why did you take it, huh? Did it get you off to go inside a locker that’s not yours? You know what? I don’t care.”

She went to pass again, only this time, he caught her shoulders, pressing her up against the wall. At first, she struggled against him. He watched the fight in her gaze, how she tried to overpower him, but he wouldn’t let her go.

The truth was, he didn’t have a fucking clue what he was doing or even why. Only that he had to.

“Let me go.” She went to strike him, and he caught both of her hands, pressing them above her head.

She growled the moment he did it.

Still, he didn’t speak even as she fought him, her body arching against him. The thrust of her tits pressed on her shirt.

He was used to women being all over him, used to the female sex wanting him and willing to do whatever he said.

This, with Harper, was new.

He didn’t mind it. In fact, he found it rather refreshing. She wouldn’t give in, wouldn’t allow him to have what he wanted.

Staring into her sweet blue eyes, he remembered them the first day of kindergarten. How scared she’d looked as she watched the other kids. Like him, she observed. She waited to see what was coming her way.

Where he had three friends, she had none. No one wanted to be her friend.

He’d watched her over the years. Seen her grow up, again, always alone, never one to join the crowds.

Always good.

He wanted to break that goodness, to shatter the innocence within her.

He’d never been allowed to be free, to be good, to be strong.

She was everything he’d been ordered to avoid.

Now, though, after her mother ended her tragic life, there was a darkness swirling within Harper. Shadows clouded her once clear gaze.

“Don’t you have some teenager to screw?” she asked, fighting him.

“You want to take the job?” He finally spoke, and seeing that spark of anger flash within her gaze turned him on.

“Fuck you, Draven. Let me go.”

“I’ll let you go when I’m good and ready.” He kept her hands locked above her head. He wondered what she’d do if he caressed down her body, touching her tits before cupping her between her thighs. She’d probably come.

So much repressed rage.

He could tutor that, help it come out.

Leaning forward, he stroked his cheek against hers, feeling how soft her flesh was. “We’re going to have a lot of fun together, you and I.”

Loved this! Was dark & a bit twisted but sweet at the same time. Was hooked from the very beginning. Loved Harper, Draven & all the guys. How they were all committed too each other, through all the darkness. Can't wait to read the next part.

Love this story but.....
Written by Carla on 4th Mar 2019

Ok so it’s well written of course and a great story I like all the characters but there are 2 things that bothered me 1 the most important they have been training and hanging out with Harper supporting her she cares for them and them her then 1 thing happens and that’s it. That doesn’t make sense at all. A better way would be sticking together that was the point of choosing her. 2nd is the relationship with the other guys if that’s the relationship they all want and planned for there should be more affection, they go from all the randoms to not even hugging Harper? Not realistic. Please don’t let the next book be them struggling to get back together or them hating her. D should know his Dad is up to something there is no way he should fall for the BS his Dad told him. Please don’t make this a relationship drama book. From the start it’s always been about the unit.

I’m not a huge fan of Sam Crescent. A few reasons but something about this book had me reading a sample, then I bought the book. I was shocked. It was excellent. Drayven, Harper and all the guys are wow. I can’t wait for the second part.

GOOD
Written by Neringa on 1st Mar 2019

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect going in. I thought that they will be older and not in school still. Though, I'm not complaining about it. I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I liked idea of this story. It hooked me. And I loved the guys. All sides of them. And especialy when they always encouraged Harper to be herself, and the hell with the rest. But Harper on the other hand... I really liked her at the beginning. I thought she had this kinda badass/rebellion vibe. But after the guys stepped into her life, she switched. Reacting like 'a good girl' should to certain situations. I kept wondering, if Harper was meant for the guys. Because sometimes she was too soft. Too naive. Too good girl. And those have no place in the guys world. And about the reverse harem part. I love reading these type of stories. But I'm not sure about it here. It feels like it wouldn't work between Alex, Buck, Jett, Draven and Harper. They weren't equally invested. The guys made this plan, but one of them have a problem with sharing. If he had a choice, he wouldn't share. And Harper... In other stories, h loves all the guys. For different reasons, but it doesn't mean that she loves any less or more. But Harper seems to have feelings for one guy and the rest is just like friends. Like I said, I love reverse harem, but if they all aren't 100% invested in it emotionally, I prefer no sharing. But that ending.... I love those moments in a story. Tough, I have to say I'm dissapointed in Draven. For him to believe that easily. I mean, he isn't an idiot, so what the heck? Can't wait for next book.

Brilliant
Written by Fay on 27th Feb 2019

Oh Wow... This was a different side to Sam Crescent, but definitely a good one. Harper was such confused girl. She was torn between being good and being bad. Being the good girl is what her mother always taught her to be. But what happens when the person who was suppose to care for you and be there for you isn't there anymore. Now she is faced with being on her own, even though her douchebag dad is there. And she has no one in her corner and it seems everything is falling apart. Until the 4 'Kings' of the school started paying her attention. Feared and probably envied by all Draven, Axel, Buck and Jett are the four who runs the school and people generally do what they say, except for Harper. She is different and she is someone that Draven has been watching for a while, its just now that her mother has passed away it seems that the good girl is ready to be bad. This story had me from the start, I kept reading because I wanted to find out what the 4's ultimate goal was and if they were really the 'bad-good' guys. But also what was Harper going to do. And then it had awful cliffhanger…. I need to know what's going to happen next, it is going to be intense and hectic....

Outstanding Read

This book is amazing !! Dark and twisted these boys run this town. They are four friends who trust no one but themselves and each other. They decide they need one girl for all four of them to share so not to be busted apart and feuding like men before them have. Harper is that woman. And as soon as she agrees they will make her their own. Epic read !!

Wow! This blew me away!
Written by Rhonda on 24th Feb 2019

Holy smokes!!! This was written by Sam Crescent? It blew me away. Harper just wants to be left alone but she has caught the attention of Draven and his friends...Axel, Jett and Buck. The 4 of them are always together and nobody at school messes with them. I can't say very much because it will give the story away and I don't do things like that. All I can say is yes, this ends with a cliffhanger but the next book is only a couple of weeks away so if you want the whole story, you might wait until part 2 is out. Ms. Crescent has definitely stepped out of her box with this one and I can't wait to read the second book. It's not as dark as some other books I've read but it may have triggers in it so be careful.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. And honestly if I could I would give it 10 stars. I absolutely am loving this story so far. My only bad thing is having to wait for the second part. Sam has really outdone herself with this book, it got me going on all the emotions!

Darkness that is Enthralling
Written by Kindle Customer on 24th Feb 2019

From page one I was enthralled. Curious as to how she could belong to four men. Each character drew me in wanting to know more about them. They all have qualities that make them endearing and dangerous at the same time. As with all of Sam Crescent's books the writing is outstanding. Even knowing there would a second book the ending had me screaming NO!! I didn't want it to end. Looking forward to the next book.
