Happy Evil After, 2
Barrett has lived almost his entire life cast as the monstrous villain, so imagine his surprise when the strangest Fairy God Mother out there calls on him to protect one of her charges. Not being able to control his other half used to be his biggest problem, but with Lynni in the picture, everything has turned upside down.
Lynni has always known that her destiny was grim because she was different than the rest of her people, but she’d decided long ago to try and make a difference in the world—then she meets Dori and is shocked to find out that nothing is as it appears.
Can these two outsiders navigate the draw they have to each other while trying to out run the roles the rest of the world has given them? Dori will do all she can to make sure they get a second chance, and there’s very little that can keep a goth fairy from getting what she wants.
Excerpt:
Lynni stared out the window as they pulled out of the parking lot. She seemed quieter than usual, but maybe she just wasn’t used to confrontation. They were stopped at the intersection when a loud thunk sounded against the passenger side of the car, immediately followed by several more.
“What the hell?” Dori yelled as another assailant threw themselves against the door, looking at Lynni as if it had a personal vendetta against her. “Is that a goose ramming the car?”
Indeed, it was, they were stopped at a light and a gaggle of Canadian geese were angrily flapping their wings and honking up a storm. They pecked at the window and side mirror in a display she’d never seen before.
“What’s happening, what do they want?” Lynni screeched. She had to know they couldn’t get through the glass … could they? But it seemed her instincts still had her leaning away from the furious birds.
“Wow…” Dori laughed when one of them jumped up onto the hood and began to tussle with a windshield wiper. “These birds have a lot of rage! Aren’t they cute?”
Lynni looked over at her like she’d lost her mind, but as adorable as these spazzy birds were, she loved this car, so clearly something had to be done. “I don’t want to hurt it, let me just shoo him off the car.” She pulled over to park in front of a building that was being renovated.
Dori didn’t want to alarm the other woman, but there was something hinky about these geese and it was more than just their attitudes. Actually, their attitudes were pretty much normal for the angry little bastards, but it was the intense focus of their rage that had her suspicious. Especially since the woman they seemed to be zeroed in on, through her own admission, had a soft spot for all creatures, even the extra stabby types like kelpies. So, the odds of her doing something to offend the entire goose nation were slim to none. There was odd magic in the air again, and Dori didn’t know exactly what it was, but twice in one day couldn’t be a coincidence. Was there a magical douche canoe out there gunning for her therapist?
How rude.
“Hey,”—Dori tried to sound casual as she watched those feisty feathered bandits go rabid—“you don’t have some kind of goose feud going on that I should know about, do you?”
Mother did always say it was important to do your due diligence before jumping to conclusions.
“What?” Lynni yelped again. “No! Animals usually love me, ahhh! Why are they so angry?”
Good question. Those geese were going at the djinn as if she slept with their boyfriend on prom night. Were they some kind of assassin geese?
It was imperative she find out, not only because this was weird as fuck, but also, if someone was breeding and training attack geese, then Dori may have just found the perfect birthday gift for her Grams.

On recommendation I read a book by the author Mrs. Marsh and I must say that I am happy with this tip because, this story holds your attention from beginning to end. Strong storyline and fantastic characters and beautiful characters. The journey Barrett and Lynni are on together has been an amazing experience and I will definitely be reading more of Mrs. Marsh and the other books to come after this one.
"Happy Evil After" indeed in this cute paranormal read. It is a magical fairytale like read about Lynni, Barrett and a fairy godmother with a mission. I love the characters and the twists and turns in this entertaining and steamy read. I love the story from beginning to end.
This second installment of Happy Evil After was well written and kept my attention with the engaging story line along with the entertaining characters.
I just love this series and Barrett did not disappoint. A truly amazing story with some pretty great characters. I loved this one!
This is the first book I've read written by Sarah Marsh; I can’t wait to read more of her books. This is the second book in the Happy Evil After Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Lynni & Barrett. I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I loved it! The beginning is a bit rocky, but then the story picks up steam. It's sweet, with a touch of mystery and a bit of detective activity, from our crazy fairy godmother. And it has a good love story. There's a little action between the sheets, not much, just enough. I want to keep reading about this matchmaker!
A new author for me. This is the 2nd book in her Happy Evil After Series. The start of this book was slow going. It took a bit to get into it but once I did enjoy it. The story was different but had suspense. I am not a fantasy reader so probably my review isn’t fair. Once I got into it I enjoyed it.
Monsterous Villain meets an adorable charge he needs to protect. Very cute story with an HEA and great characters.
I loved this tale! It was a little different and it was funny in a corny way. Based on the description, I expected Barrett to be more villainous, but he's just misunderstood. Fast, fun read. Great story!
4/5 stars! This was a fun, silly, and tempting paranormal romance. This story reminded me of Kresley Cole's "Immortal After Dark" in that it had epic world-building, great characters, and didn't take itself too seriously. There's a quest, a hot immortal, and a fairy godmother; what else could you want? Can't wait to read more by this author. I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I was completely hooked on this story. Ms. Marsh is a gifted author who knows how to "hook" her readers with an amazing story and will make them fall in love with the characters. Lynni and Barrett's road to romance was wonderful and I enjoyed it so much. I still need to see Dori's story though!
As a person who tends sympathize with the villain Happy Evil After series is my jam. Barrett & Lynni deserve each other and I mean that in the best way possible. But the continued star of the show is Dori. This series is great and I for one can’t wait for Dori’s ancestry and for her HEA with Burton!!!
*4.5 stars* Humorous, sweet paranormal/fantasy romance… I absolutely LOVED this story! From the opening pages, Dori had me hooked on her other-worldly mission and the characters and family she brought with her were nothing short of extraordinary… A real fairy godmother? Sign me up… Lynni was facing the unthinkable and her loneliness was hard to feel. She was an outcast and Barrett knew all about that. Nudged to help her, he soon found she was going to save him instead… Their road to friendship and love was plagued with paranormal shenanigans, some funny and some decidedly not, and all of it was magical… I laughed, I raged (at the injustices), I cheered (Lynni and Barrett’s romance) and simply wallowed happily in Dori’s quest and her need to make things right. If the ending was a bit abrupt, it certainly left me wanting more. A lot more…
Thank you NetGalley! It. Is . So. Cute! I loved this two outsiders falling in love. They were perfect for each other and meant to be together. It was so much fun to read and made me smile a lot. If you love second chance and two people healing and falling in love with one another, look no further!
Light, fluffy, over the top was what I thought this book was heading toward but then about page forty things changed as Lynni appeared, Dori’s plans for Lynni and Barrett began to materialize, and the magic mystery problems both were facing were shown to possibly have a solution. Then, I was hooked and couldn’t stop reading till I finished the story. This is the second book in the series, and I do wonder if I had read book one, Viktor, I would have been more clued in that Dori was going to be matchmaking misfits and doing some sleuthing and fixing along the way. The book stands on its own perfectly well, but I am now curious about what I might have missed. I loved Barrett with Lynni and how the two grew closer through the story. They were perfect with and for one another. It was interesting to learn their backstories, find out about their parents, and learn why they were on the fringes of their communities. Dori was there just enough in the story to matchmake and show a bit of what will be happening in her own storyline in the future. Dori’s desire to hep misfits find happiness is going to provide plenty of fodder for future stories in this series. This is a new-to-me author that I look forward to reading again. Thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Publishing for the ARC – this is my honest review. 4-5 Stars
I had a really hard time putting this book down with the great connection, tension, and chemistry between these two as well as the action and passion that this book offered. I would recommend this book.
I didn’t realise this was a fantasy when I started reading it but I was really happy that it was because it was really good! It has some really lovable characters and an adorable blushing Ogre
