Lena’s entrance into his life and into the dangerous world of the bratva adds tension, heat, and emotional edge to the story.\r\n\r\nAlthough the book is on the shorter side, Winter Sloane does an impressive job of building a believable, gritty world quickly. The worst happens while she is at the delivery’s address. A dead body. She then realizes that she is not alone and recognizes who is there- a Volkov, of the Bratva of that name. Suprisingly, he does not kill her. He takes her with him. She is terrified but he realizes that she is special and he just couldn’t do it. She argues with him, even while she is scared. He takes her to one of his safe houses. IT shocks him, because this isn’t like him. Things just doesn’t make sense to him, or her. Choices are made.\r\n\r\nDmitri is the eldest and thus the Big Boss of the Volkov Bratva. Alexei is different and causing problems all of the time, you’ll find out why. So they both tell Maksim that he needs to take care of her. He chooses not to. Then, there is an attack. He defends her. It was epic. I loved him more for it and how he cares for her. How he protects her is awesome and inspiring.\r\n\r\nMaksim still doesn’t understand why he is so drawn to her. He takes her to a new safe houses, no one knows about and then goes to talk to his brothers. He has a plan that is absolutely insane. He tells it to Dmitri. It is crazy and romantic. What happens next is so sweet and romantic. Things get steamy and hot whenever Maksim and Lena are together. I love them. I have read other novels by this author and enjoyed them. This novel did not let me down. From the first chapter this novel reached across the pages and pulled me in. I was excited to jump into this new series and it did not let me down. I loved Lena. She was having probably the worst day of her life and then walks in on something that changes her life. I loved Maksim and Lena together. I loved their chemistry. I loved that Maksim had such a soft center for Lena while he was hard in every other aspect of his life. I loved watching the walls and defenses come down and open their hearts to each other. I was on the edge of my seat reading. Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. So good! I can hardly wait to see what is coming next. Expect to get caught up in the action, drama, danger, family and hot spice when you dive into this engaging read. Good fun!
