Thomas and Lola
I loved this book. It’s my favorite of the series. I like how brave Lola is and how Thomas breaks down the door to get to what’s his.
Katu Wolves, 9
Thomas was raised in captivity. He has been experimented on, hurt, and humiliated. He struggles to trust anyone except his newfound family in the Katu Pack. His wolf is an abomination, larger than any other and a menace to contain. His greatest fear is losing control and hurting any of his new friends or perhaps even the fated mate he has been craving.
Lola left home, tired of being controlled by a pack and an Alpha that clearly does not care for her. She’s heard rumors about a pack taking in strays, rogues, and more and intends to find them. What she doesn’t expect to find is a new pack who welcomes her with open arms, and a second chance fated mate who doesn’t even know who he is.
Now they will have to work together to find their future by facing their past, and the Hunters.
Excerpt:
It takes me an hour to convince him nothing bad will happen. When I finally lead him out of the compound, gripping his hand tightly in mine, I know this was exactly what he needs. We are going to run together, my wolf and his.
Knowing he doesn’t intend to refuse me has my heart—and my wolf—bursting with joy. I know he is still struggling to accept that I don’t have any intention of refusing him and he lives in fear of his own animal, but I am sure this will help.
We make our way into the thick trees, and I can feel the nerves pouring off him. Taking a deep breath, I release his hand once we are far enough from the compound to be considered decent. I smile softly when I turn to him.
“Breathe, Thomas,” I say, pulling the shirt over my head. “This is natural. We are going to run together, and I will prove your animal doesn’t pose any danger to me.”
“But…”
I cut him off. “But nothing. I can take care of myself if I need to.”
I allow my bra to fall to the ground beside my shirt before slipping off my shorts and panties. My gaze travels back to my mate and pride surges through me at the sight of the obscene erection tenting his sweatpants. His gaze is dark, and his breathing is harsh as he takes me in.
“Lola.” He rubs the back of his hand across his mouth.
“Run with me.” The words are soft before I allow the shift to fall over me. My wolf howls at the sky before taking off into the forest. She is sure-footed and fast. A moment later we catch the sounds of our mate chasing after us. His footsteps are loud and gaining. Both of us intend to play with him for a while but our plans are thrown out the window when we are taken to the ground by the large onyx wolf.
He pins us beneath him, his gaze crazed. He nuzzles us with his jaw, a rumble building in his chest. Both my wolf and I are aroused beyond measure, and she quickly allows me to shift back to my human form.
“Thomas,” I beg lowly, the fur from his beast pressed against my breasts. “Shift.” His wolf growls in displeasure and I kiss his jaw. “Please.”
A moment later, Thomas is above me, pinning me to the ground. His thick erection is resting against my inner thigh as he stares down at me. I pull him down to me, kissing him. For a moment he is hesitant before kissing me back.
I push against his shoulders and roll us over until I am straddling him. I want to take his thick length inside me, but I hold back. Something is wrong and I need to know what it is. I can feel his hesitation in the way he kisses me. Yes, I want to claim my mate and have him claim me but not if this isn’t what he wants. The euphoria from a moment ago leaves me as I consider he may not want to refuse me, but he also may not want to claim me.
I loved this book. It’s my favorite of the series. I like how brave Lola is and how Thomas breaks down the door to get to what’s his.
Another great addition to this great series. These short stories manage to pack (ha!) a whole lot into a few pages. The plot moves quickly yet has depth. There is a story arc about a fanatical group called the Hunters who want to wipe out all wolf shifters and are not above doing inhumane experiments on captured shifters without mercy. This story centers around Thomas, whose mother was captured by the Hunters while pregnant. They experimented on her and she died giving birth to Thomas. Thomas was held as their prisioner and used as a lab rat until his rescue at the age of 20. Thomas doesn't trust his wolf given all he suffered. Lola is a rare dire wolf shifter who is rejected by her fated mate and ultimately leaves the pack. She finds Thomas at the Katu Pack where she seeks refuse and belonging. Both are surprised when they discover they are fated mates. Their journey as they work through their insecurities is well written. Continued dramatics from the Hunters and surprising revelations add to this wonderful love story. The passion is hot ? and the continued acceptance philosophy of the Katu Pack make a great read.
This was an exciting read and I was quite glued to my reader to see how everything would unfold ;) Lola heads to the Katu Pack for a fresh start and never expects to get a second chance at a mate. Thomas, after being experimented on by the hunters, thinks he's not suitable to be a mate and yet he's so protective of Lola from the moment he sees her. With danger, drama, mystery, twists, shocks and spice, I was fully invested in seeing this sweet couple get their HEA. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book :D
I liked this cute charming romance. There’s so much packed in this short story. Lola is disillusioned with her pack and leaves to find a friendly pack and a fated mate. Hunters present a problem and threat to add a little danger. very entertaining!
This book was wonderful--I really loved it and couldn't stop reading it. I love all the Jade Marshall books that I have read so far and this one was no exception. Must read and also check out her others.
A quick read in the Katu Wolves saga. In this story the hunters continue to torment but there is an added dimension to the storyline. Lovely characters, sweet read.
Second Chance Love! A super hot read in the next installment of the series featuring Thomas and Lola! Both have issues but recognize their connection and Thomas is in for a few surprises when he finds out the truth. A wonderful entertaining addition to the series!
I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Katu Wolves series. Thomas has finally been rescued from captivity, but he remains deeply uneasy about the size of his wolf. Afraid of losing control and unintentionally harming those around him, he struggles with fear and self-doubt. Lola, a Dire Wolf, was cruelly rejected by her fated mate and the alpha of her pack at just 18. Years later, that same alpha is trying to force her into another unwanted mating. Desperate for freedom, she runs—hoping to find refuge with a pack known for welcoming all kinds. When Lola arrives at the Katu Wolves’ territory, she quickly discovers that Thomas is her true mate. But both are hesitant: Lola is guarded after past betrayals, and Thomas is still consumed by fear. What he doesn’t know is that he, too, is a Dire Wolf—his intimidating size isn’t a result of cruel experiments, but his true nature. This story warmed my heart. It’s a tender, emotional read about healing, acceptance, and second chances.
I wasn’t expecting the twists and turns that this book takes. The characters are well written and I loved the strength of the women in these packs. I am looking forward to book 10. Don’t miss out on this excellent series.
Thomas was raised a captive and experiment till be found a new family in the Katu pack and even a mate Lola left her old pack feeling worthless and controlled she finds solace at Katu, and even with Thomas, but not everything is smooth sailing. Well written fast paced quick fated mates romance
Fearful Mate is the ninth book in the Katu Wolves series and it is a dousy. The book is a page-turner that I could not put down. The Pack is thriving and still accepting new members as yet another Pack Member finds his fated mate. This leads to all kinds of drama and a few mysteries resolved and a future of the Hunters continuing to seek to exterminate shifters. There are also some big surprises, a couple of twists and a betrayal comes to light. The characters continue to be engaging and pull you into the story. I can hardly wait to see what is next in this series!
Never seen that twist coming at the end! What an amazing little story about a rare breed of wolves, and a little compound with an alpha who invites all to stay in his pack regardless of your breed! I enjoyed the way she had to coax her new mate! I rarley see t were the man is inexperienced! I’m glad she found her place where she could be herself!
I love this series and each book is better than the last. I love how each book visits the previous characters, introduces new ones, such as Thomas & Lola, who are great together, but keeps expounding on the story. Jade has done it again!
Lola and Thomas both come from very complicated pasts that have convinced them that a mate would never want them. In a sense, they are both the titular “fearful mate.” I love how quickly and hotly the 2 got together and tackled their issues as a pair. The twist at the end of who Thomas is was a great surprise that I didn’t expect! Super unpredictable ending that still managed to be appropriate and fitting for the story. ?️?️?️/5 spice level
These just keep getting better and better. I love all of these books and can't wait to see more. Jade was rejected by her mate and her mother didn't support her in any way. After going through all the pain of being rejected for two years and finding out she is going to be sold to make a match with a different pack she decided to leave. She heard that Katu Wolves take in rejects and people kicked out of their packs. She heads for them and is taken aback by how welcoming and warm these strangers are to her. She is further shocked to have a second chance of meeting her mate. She is scared of being rejected once again and Thomas is very fearful of his wolf hurting her and he tries to hold himself back. Reading how these two come together was so much fun and they were the sweetest couple I have read in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book. It is a must read!!
Loved Lola and Thomas! Lola was rejected by her fated mate and Thomas didn't think he deserved a fated mate. Both of them were nervous and afraid to trust but their story was so good
This was the first book I've read by Jade Marshall and I enjoyed it. Fearful Mate is a fast simple read with some spice. Lola the MFC is damaged but not broken and her strength shows in her actions. Thomas the MMC is damaged and broody and fears his ability to control his wolf making him feel unlovable. We get to watch them unfold and grow stronger as we read their story. There are some twists in the story but it was easy to follow. The author fills in some of the questions I had that were probably covered in the 8 prior books with how the Katu wolf pack was brought together and formed. I enjoyed it enough that i want to go back and read some of the supporting charters in this books stories. This might be a good book for someone just getting started with shifters, there isn't a lot of pack politic. It touches lightly on the mating bond. It's like dipping your toe in the pool, not jumping into the river.
