Need more now!
oooo, this was good!! But now I need more! Do the rest of the people in his pack get their Happily Ever Afters! I love how their story unfolded and they really did deserve their HEA and it ended up perfect. Very good.
Wolves of Shadows, 1
No humans allowed.
In Shadow City there is only room for darkness, decay, and death.
Wolf shifter, Gavin MoonRider, has spent years trying to find a way out, to no avail. So, when he saves a woman about to be murdered, and finds out she is human, he is convinced he's finally found the key to freedom. What he doesn't realize is that Livia holds the power to a lot more than just an escape route.
It was supposed to be just business.
Bent on proving she’s a successful businesswoman, Livia accepts her boss’ job offer to enter the mysterious city of shifters and vampires. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse, and she finds herself trapped in a place where they're eager to make a meal out of her. Only one man offers to help her, but can she trust the wolf-shifter? And most importantly, can she trust herself around him?
Excerpt:
Gavin nodded and softened his fingers over the human's skin. He kept his eyes on the street and his senses on his surroundings. It hadn’t been a lie when he had said there were others watching her. Her screams had brought out hunters, and more unsavory beasts. He could have left her there and walked away, but something prompted him to help her. Gavin wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but his wolf, which was usually dormant, seemed fixated on her, almost to the point of intruding on her privacy, so he would follow through. Not only that, but a human could provide information about what was occurring in the world outside. Was she going to be the first of many? How had she gotten in? And if she got in, surely there was a way out. Would they be able to bargain for her life? Perhaps she was an important person. Gavin grimaced. The idea of bargaining for a person's life made bile climb to the back of his throat. A small noise caught his attention and he realized he squeezed the woman too hard again.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled.
She didn’t reply, seeming to focus instead on walking at his stride. Something difficult considering she wore heels, a fitted gray skirt, a white blouse, and a matching suit jacket. Her makeup and hair had probably been flawless before she left wherever she was holed up in. Now, rundown mascara streaked her cheeks, and her ruby-red lipstick was smudged. Still the question burned through him—what was she doing dressed like a businesswoman in the heart of Shadow City?
“What's your name, kitten?” She jumped at the sound of his voice and he couldn't help smiling. She only appeared to be secure. Good. It wasn't a good idea to feel safe in Shadow City.
“None of your business.”
“It is if I'm saving your pretty little bum, kitten.”
She huffed and rolled her eyes. “Livia. My name is Livia.”
“Livi, I like it. I’m Gavin.”
“Livia,” she corrected him.
“Livia, then. This way.” He led her through the city, each street darker than the next. Somewhere between the rows of townhouses and four-story apartment buildings a wolf howled and a big cat roared. She pressed against him.
“No need to be scared, kitten.”
“I’m not,” she replied, scurrying away from him. Gavin chuckled.
“At least, not of me. I don’t bite.”
Her eyes widened and a blush dotted her cheeks, even though she moved another inch. The scent of her arousal hit him, and his nostrils flared. Well, well, well, the little kitten was interested in him.
“Unless you want me to bite,” he rumbled.
“Like hell I do! You mons—”
Gavin clamped his hand over her mouth. He would not allow her to say such a thing. Not when he could smell her arousal miles away. Not when they were here. Not anywhere. They weren't monsters. They were people. With feelings, emotions, and they deserved respect. Livia's large brown eyes bulged. He pushed her back so that she hit the nearest wall. It was best she knew what she was up to in this city. Shadow City was no fun and games. It wasn’t a place to come flirting with your neighbor because you could very well become dinner.
“Listen up, Kitten. You're on our turf now. We're not monsters any more now than we were one hundred years ago. We've been around a long time. The only difference is now everybody knows what we are and wants to keep us in a cage. If it hadn't been because of those stupid vamps exposing us we'd be doing the vertical tango somewhere private and you'd have no idea that I could transform into a wolf and rip your heart out. Got it?”
Livia whimpered and trembled slightly. Her skin flushed and her gaze glossed over, then softened. Fear seemed to run rampant through her, but it mingled with unmistakable desire. His cock jerked to life, his body reacting to hers. The animal within him stirred, calling out for release. No. He pushed it back into its confines, ignoring as he’d learned to do, the pain thumping through him.
“Oh, please, don't look at me like that. I wouldn't hurt a fly much less a woman. You want me, kitten. I can smell it off you like the sweetest perfume in this dreadful place.”
Livia averted her gaze and he gradually removed his palm. Her mouth opened as if to speak, but no words came out. Instead, she tilted her chin and faced him head on. She seemed to be analyzing him, deciding if he was trustworthy or not. Gavin smirked. He didn't move. He didn't need to claim more of her space to know that within the dread visible in the clench of her jaw was also trapped a rebellious yearning which reflected his own. Oh, it'd be delicious to peel off the layers of her clothes and see what lay hidden beneath. Did she wear plain white underwear or perhaps something more risqué? He swept his gaze over her, taking the time to appreciate her feminine curves and appeal. The opening of her blouse allowed him a glimpse of her cleavage and her creamy flesh. Temptation. Hunger made his mouth water, and he licked his lips. Their gazes locked. The earlier trepidation gone and replaced by genuine curiosity. He reached to touch her, but she lifted her arms blocking him.
“Listen, I just want to get out of here. This was a mistake.”
Gavin raised his eyebrows. Denial. Fair enough. They were, after all, two strangers thrown together by chance.
oooo, this was good!! But now I need more! Do the rest of the people in his pack get their Happily Ever Afters! I love how their story unfolded and they really did deserve their HEA and it ended up perfect. Very good.
Livia went to Shadow City for work but quickly realized she was set up when she almost became dinner for someone. Gavin came out of nowhere and saved her. When he took her back to his place he realized he found a way out of the hell he was living. Together they come up with a plan to escape but they also find love. Because what he doesn't realize right away is that Livia is his mate and he won't let her go!
Gavin and Livia. Shes there because of her greedy boss. He wants to take his meat selling to the supernatural But not through the safe channels, through the bribed channels is his way. Gavin is a wolf, alpha, forced to live in the supernatural city by the government with what is left of his pack. Gavin is walking the perimeter of his building and hears the screams. Livia has been attacked by the vamps she had the meeting with. Thinking they and her boss set her up. Gavin saves her and he is taking her back to his building till the light of day. He also thinks she isnt one of them and if she is here maybe they can all get out. Livia doesnt want to admit it but she is attracted to him. Gavin knows and will admit that hes attracted to her. When they get to the building he bays the coast is clear and she says youre a wolf. Hes says yes come into my home. LOL little red riding hood vibes yikes. They make a plan of escape. Everyone except him know shes his mate. He wont admit it but his wolf knows. A different kind of shifter book .. I liked it a good story.
Very interesting story. Livia is sent to Shadow City where vampires and wolf shifters live. She almost loses her life when she's attacked by a Vampire. Gavin, the Alpha of his Wolf pack, hears the attack and goes to help her. Gavin has been trying to get out of Shadow City because his wolf pack is dying. There were so many surprises, lies, and deceit in this story. This is a fast story of fated mates who meet and work on a way to free the Wolf pack. This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it.
This is an interesting and intriguing read that has shifters and paranormal creatures have been forced to live in certain cities. It goes against the nature of shifters, who need areas to run, instead they are forced into tight living arrangements. This story is about Gavin, a shifter, and Livia, a human. She has been sent to the city by her boss to work with the vampires. Instead she finds herself attacked by one. Gavin hers her scream and rescues her. Gavin is his clans leader and wants to get them out of the city. Gavin and Livia meet and their story begins as well as their adventure. I enjoyed their story and their escape.
What a great story, we are taken into the story of Livia and Gavin. While she is out for her boss to win a contract, she is attacked by a vampire attack and Gavin saves her. From the first moment, the chemistry and attraction is palpable between them. It is a story that will keep you glued to your book from the first page. The only thing I thought was a shame is that it was a short story, but otherwise it was enjoyable.
Gavin is a shifter male who is tired of the life they were handed. He will stop at nothing to get out of the city they were tricked into. Livia is a woman on a mission to make sure she gets her sale and to show these men that she can do what they do. Between the lies and deceit there is a sliver of hope.
This was good! I loved both Gavin and Livia. The addition of all kind of supernatural creatures made it awesome. I loved that they were all around each other. I really enjoyed the chemistry between them. It ended on a slight cliffhanger but it just made me want the next book even more.
She just wanted to empress her boss but going somewhere where humans don’t belong put her life in danger and only one person saves her. Thrilling read throughout. I recieved a free copy via Booksprout and I’m giving my review freely and honestly
This story started at 60 MPH and wound up over 100 in no time! It moved fast, had a lot of action and really kept me glued to the pages (even though it was pretty late at night!). My only complaint was that I wanted a bit more world and character building, however, for as fast as this book moved, I think it was still really good! I'd like to see this story continued with the other characters. Enjoy reading!
Shattered Darkness has an interesting setup—all paranormal creatures have been forced to live in several cities. Ostensibly for their protection and to give them a better life, the cities have turned into living hells for shifters. They’ve been penned in, their supplies from outside reduced to almost nothing, and those inside have become fodder for thirsty vamps. Gavin leads his greatly reduced shifter clan, and he wants nothing more than to get them out. He has no idea a solution might arise from his momentary sympathy for a human who’s in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is a quick fated-mates read, which means Gavin and Livia have the hots for one another almost instantly. And it makes their rapid connection make sense. But I was far more intrigued by the world VaLey is building here, where shifters have been disenfranchised, vampires are in power, and humans are wild cards. There’s a long game being played, and that’s the part that I’m most intrigued to see move forward in future books.
This book had me captivated from the beginning. Taking shifters and "helping" them live a life they deserve. Man they were led a stray. Locked up and left to find for them selfs. Until a human was dropped in the city.. a great book. Well written. Looking for book 2
This story centres around a group of shifters struggling to survive in a truly dystopian world. Gavin, despite being a strong leader, has very few resources and struggles to keep his pack together and alive. Livia is also trying to survive in this world after she is tricked into crossing over into this dark world and, until she encounters Gavin, she is in danger. I loved their journey and their eventual freedom and I look forward t9 more stories in the series.
This was a great novella. It was very suspenseful but also romantic. This was an easy read and a real page turner! This was a unique shifter story, different from others I’ve read.
Good read well written characters and a good story line that will keep you interested and intrigued.
I would more then likely freak out with everything she goes through and sees. But would be looking forward to the unknown as well.
I really enjoyed this book!! Well written and had me from the beginning!! Definitely worth the read and excited for the next book! First time reading this author and won’t be my last..Loving the vampire and shifter theme! Gavin and Livia are quite the duo!! Angst, grit, steam…all the good things!!
Gavin and Livia meet when he helps her from a vampire attack. She there for her boss to work out a agreement on a meat contract. They work together to free the pack. I really enjoyed this short story and I hope more comes.
Gavin MoonRider is the alpha of what remains of his pack. He, along with all other shifters and vampires have been rounded up and secluded in a specific location known as Shadow City. The government did not keep its promises and what was supposed to be a safe and welcoming home has become nothing but darkness and despair. Livia is intent on pleasing her boss and volunteers to negotiate a meat contract with the vampires. As a human, this is a risky venture. Gavin finds Livia when she is being attacked by a vampire and together they work to free the MoonRider pack. This was the first book I have read from this author and it will not be the last. This book is like a post-apocalyptic paranormal romance with lots of action.
This was a cute short story. It definitely was interesting and different than what I usually read. I wish the ending was a little bit longer longer, but overall was a very good book.
This is a good story about two people falling in love despite navigating difficult waters. The two led are likeable and Gavin and Livia have good chemistry and dialogue. This book is worth reading and starts of this series well.
Gavin MoonRider's pack is slowly dying in the Shadow City, where have been put by the government. They should have never agreed to come here, should have hid in the wilderness like some of the other packs. He is out taking a walk in the city to clear his head when he finds a woman being attacked by vampire. Livia is not sure if she can trust the man who saved her, but she is not scared of him. There is something about him that just puts her mind at ease. I hope this the first in a series as it feels like the story has not ended.
Livia just wanted to prove herself to her boss, but when she finds herself in no man's land surrounded by the paranormal, things take a turn, but wolfshifter Gavin coms to her aid. He'd been looking for a way out for him and his pack but will this human be the key? Well written engaging story with depth of characters and more!
A great series starter Thrown into a world she didn’t understand with betrayal at her doorstep, Livia was saved by Gavin and taken to safety. Gavin had tried to get his pack out of the city they had been forced to live in and suddenly with Livia, he could now see that there could be a way out! A fast paced, intense action packed dark read with fated mates, danger around every corner, the plot thickens with betrayal and will keep you on the edge as they navigate their way to freedom.
