Mad City Moments, 2

The first hookup after a long relationship is always meaningless. Right?

Still reeling from his divorce two years ago, Joe Larson sleepwalks through life until a chance encounter with Liz Jensen jolts him awake. Their sexual chemistry is undeniable, but Liz is fresh off a broken engagement and has no intention of letting anyone get close. Joe must overcome his fear of being hurt again if he is to convince Liz that love does not mean being powerless and that their rebound fling is actually their happily ever after.

Be Warned: sex toys, spanking

Excerpt:

My dry spell has lasted so long, I feel like I’m dreaming. Or maybe this is happening to someone else.

Liz is naked on my lap, rocking her hips, sliding back and forth along my dick, wet and warm, as I gorge on her tits.

Her hair is thick and wavy, hanging like a honey-colored curtain over one side of her face, falling down her shoulder.

She smells light and clean, with now a slight tinge of perspiration. I love how soft she is all over, how smooth her skin is. I keep pressing into her flesh, that beautiful creamy lightly freckled soft flesh, I know it might bruise but fuck I can’t help it, I dig twist pinch knead, her body is absolutely made for fucking, and I don’t know where I want to go, to her soft belly, the lovely rolls on her sides, her wide hips, her dimpled thighs. So much to touch, rub, squeeze, worship.

Her lips are open and she softly moans as she rubs the underside of my dick with her pussy, working herself up.

“Fuck, this is so good,” she says as she lifts her hips, grabs my dick and positions herself above it, and then takes it inside her in one fell swoop.

I almost choke on my tongue.

I wrap my arms around her back tight, my face between her breasts, her arms around my neck, and it’s as if we’re both trying to anchor ourselves against a surge of sensation. She’s very wet and very tight, and hot, so hot inside, and I am suddenly aware of the rapid beating of her heart, the light trembling of her whole body, the desperation with which she clings to my head, the little pants, faint, barely audible, flying off her parted lips, before she’s even moved. It’s not just me, the sad lonely man going through a long dry spell; she needs this, too. Needs me.

Liz leans back and cups my cheek, and I stroke her hair, her shoulders, arms. Then our eyes meet, and it’s that shared look more than anything that almost knocks the wind out of my chest, the nakedness of real connection, something unspeakable that has flickered between us from the moment we met, and now that she sheaths me within her body, still unmoving, it’s no longer a flicker but a beam, strong and bright, electrifying the small space between us.

“You feel amazing,” she whispers and starts to rock. Her hands rest on my shoulders, eyes never leaving my face.

“You too,” I reply, and the words sound stupid and simple, unworthy of what I’m feeling. My hands on her sides have gotten light and tender, stroking gently, barely there. I don’t want to do anything to snap the thread between us.

But she’s the one in charge and her hips rock harder, faster, her pussy now grinding against the base of my cock. Her eyes close and her head hangs, her pants coming in louder.

“Do you need more?” I ask, sliding my hand between our bodies to rub her clit. “Or maybe side to side? Circles?”

She doesn’t answer or open her eyes and instead grabs my wrist and flattens my hand, then shows me how to move the whole palm, all the fingers pressing hard against her pelvis and rubbing it in broad circles as her hips piston.

I’m trying to focus on her and ignore the tightening deep in my groin, but it’s getting harder as she has set a hard and fast rhythm, and I meet her with small shallow thrusts from below.

She’s crying now, “Yes … yes … fuck… I’m almost there…” She grabs my wrist. “Like before, you know… From the side…”

I nod and give her that tight squeeze on her clit that she needs and—

Her head falls back in a wordless scream as she clamps on my dick, fingers clawing into my shoulders. Watching her fall apart loosens something inside me, something I’d kept way too tight for way too long.

I stroke her through a long sequence of spasms and wails, her grip on my cock almost making me lose it. I inwardly pat myself on the back when I manage to hold on.

Finally, she relaxes. “I feel so good right now, you have no idea,” she says.

“Good,” I say, smiling up at her. “That’s good. You did so good.” And then I ask, “You up for some more?”

Couldn't put it down
Written by Danee on 6th May 2026

We start with the meeting of Joe and Liz. They meet there when she walks in to watch a Vikings match and sees Joe who has been waiting for his brother-in-law for quite some time and is having a nice drink there. When they have to give up their table because of the bartender and that is the beginning of their journey, they click quickly and they have lots to talk about. Good storyline that keeps your attention. A page turner.

Liz was recently dumped
Written by NovemberSnowe on 6th May 2026

Liz was recently dumped so she left town. At a bar, she encounters Joe and they hit it off. Though Liz hesitates, I loved how they spend time together. Joe's laid back manner and how he likes a good joke helps him get through to Liz's heart. This book's snappy banter, and spicy scenes will keep readers engaged.

This is a good addition to the Mad City Moments stories. It is about two people who were scarred by past relationships. They insecurities, self doubts and trouble accepting love. The story is about Joe and Liz. These two meet by chance and in an unexpected place. I was addicted and hooked in this story. I love the secondary characters as well. I love the characters and the witty dialogue.

Soft Rebound
Written by Angi5252 on 6th May 2026

Two people completely disillusioned about love, Liz and Joe didn’t seem like they were going to get past the barriers they had created for themselves. The chemistry between these two is amazing. He’s definitely a pushy alpha. The characters are really well written and I was just as into the sub plot stories as I was Liz and Joes. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it, it’s a good read.

Emotional and super spicy!
Written by Sydney on 27th Jun 2025

It's hard to know where to start with this book because there is so much to say, so I'll begin here: Do yourself a favor and read this book! Liz and Joe are so real that you feel like you already know them, that you ARE them. They are flawed characters because we are flawed, and they grow both separately and together as all great couples do. They see where they need to improve both for themselves and for the other person and put in the work to make that happen. Their character arcs are amazing and the way in which they are written is done with a depth of emotion and mindfulness you don't see often enough in romance novels. There is nothing "surface level" about Liz and Joe, and that along endears them to you. As for the spice, this is the book equivalent of a Hot Ones challenge because with each new scene it gets hotter and hotter. The way Liz and Joe interact in the bedroom, and other places. is so raw, so passionate that you need a fan and tall glass of ice water nearby to keep yourself from melting into an envious, horny puddle. Fiona Embers got me with Shoot Your Shot, and she'd keeping me with Soft Rebound. This author will be on my auto-buy list until the end of time and I highly recommend this and any writing of hers to readers of romance or anyone who can appreciate a fantastic novel.
