After finding her boyfriend of two years lip locked with another woman, Katie thinks her day can’t get much worse. Then she realizes half of her family was present for her humiliation, as well as her brother’s best friend, Lei. Add in a rash decision to bolt, and she suddenly has to deal with being trapped during a snow storm at a deserted cabin.

To make matters worse, Katie is locked in with Lei. She can’t imagine anything more uncomfortable than being stranded with her brother’s buddy while trying to swallow down her mortification at her failed relationship. That is until things start heating up between herself and Lei.

Could the guy she grew up with be the man she’s been longing for? Or is this off-limits stud a disaster waiting to happen? Either way, she’s discovering that being trapped might not be all that bad.

Excerpt:

The sound of her coat falling seemed to draw his attention. Lei’s eyes lifted to hers as he dusted his hands off. “So you wanna tell me what all of this is about? Why we’re trapped in an abandoned cabin because of some guy who obviously isn’t worth your time?”

Wrapping her arms around her waist, she glared at him. “What do you care?”

“What do I care? I’ve been dragged along on this wild ride, so I think I’m entitled to a little bit of frustration. What you did … it was damn childish. I thought you were smarter than that.”

Anger welled up inside of her and she closed the small distance between them as he stood. “Do you have any idea how humiliating that was? Having my cousins, my brother, you witness the most embarrassing moment of my life? I’ve spent my entire childhood with you and Nathan making fun of me, laughing at me. I wasn’t going to be laughed at again.”

“I haven’t been laughing for a long time.”

There was something in his tone that instantly extinguished her anger. It hit something deep inside of her that brought panic racing to the surface. His voice had been thick and honest. Her eyes widened as they lifted to his, and her breath caught in her throat at the look she found in their depths.

Lei’s dark eyes had also widened and they shimmered with uncertainty. “You deserve better than that,” he whispered, his voice shaking ever so slightly. “You deserve a man who gives a shit about you, someone who knows who you really are and what’s important to you. Not just some ass passing through.”

“What are you saying, Lei?” Her brother’s best friend had always been larger than her. He was six-two with broad shoulders and classic Asian good looks. He’d always seemed imposing to her, but now he was downright intimidating. He towered over her, making her feel small and vulnerable.

He didn’t speak. He answered by leaning down and pressing his lips against hers.

Katie catches her boyfriend kissing his “friend” Erika. She feels betrayed and humiliated. But she is more embarrassed to be caught crying because her family is on this trip. Her solution- get away from the situation. Even if getting away means she has to walk through high snow. Her brother’s best friend, Lei, comes after her to talk some sense into her. Of course, they get lost. But getting lost turns out to be not such a bad situation for them. The setting for this story is my favorite. Two people trapped together in a secluded cabin. There are a lot of short stories that I don’t really enjoy because they just feel unfinished. Not this one. It is simply and absolutely a full story. There is a complete story in these pages. It starts out wonderfully setting the situation. There are no loose ends or questions. The emotions of the characters are skillfully written. I like that Katie and Lei have known each other a long time before the story begins. It is a wonderful way to spend some free time. I liked it so much that I read it twice.

I enjoyed this book! The author manages to pack fully developed characters into such a short read. I felt so bad for Katie when she finds her boyfriend cheating on her, and it is in front of her family. Lei was a great rebound guy but he was so much more. He’s loved her for three years and finally the time came for them. My only complaint is that it’s too much sex in a 37 page novella. By the 3rd, yes 3 sex scenes, I was bored with them. But I did love the characters. The plot was simple but cute and well written. I really liked Trapped and would recommend reading this book!
