Since birth, Landon and Alexa have been told they will be together as true mates. There is no fighting destiny in the pack.
But they hate each other. As kids, they couldn’t stand each other, but later, when the time comes for their mating, the pack wants them to finally come together. For three years, they ignore one another, never acting on nature’s gift. When one of Landon’s friends attacks Alexa, their alpha has no choice but to impose a punishment. “What do you want?” Alexa asked.
“You think you’re so good, don’t you? Everyone loves sweet, freaky, fat Alexa.” The sneer on Cheryl’s face was disgusting. She hated Alexa with a passion, and Landon could certainly see that now more than ever.
“Wow, okay, I don’t know exactly what this is, but I don’t need to stay and listen to you be this person, so I’m going to go.” Alexa had already wrapped a towel around her body, but Cheryl stepped in front of her.
“You’re not going anywhere.” Cheryl shoved Alexa back.
“Don’t do that.” Alexa held one hand out and kept her focus on Cheryl. “I’m warning you.”
“You don’t get to warn me anymore.” Cheryl took a step toward Alexa.
He watched Alexa move back. Her strength terrified her.
Landon had been with his father when her parents came to see him. He’d heard the pain in her voice, the fear, begging his father to tell her what was happening. Marcel couldn’t give her a reason, but he said she was a special woman and would be one hell of a pack female.
But Landon knew differently. Alexa was suffering because of … him. Just as he was suffering because of her. Their inability to get past their hatred was causing them both untold difficulty. What Marcel hadn’t told the pack was that where Alexa was getting stronger, Landon was gradually growing weaker.
They had been warned that denying themselves each other would have consequences, and he couldn’t hide what was happening to him forever.
“Landon is mine,” Cheryl said.
Alexa rolled her eyes. “Are you for real right now? Is that what this is about? You want your boyfriend? In case you can’t see, Landon and I are not a couple. We can’t even be in the same room with each other without causing trouble. Trust me, nothing’s going on with us.”
Cheryl snorted. “Please, I see the way he looks at you, and you think I haven’t watched you? I know what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to steal him away from me.”
“I’m not trying to do anything. I don’t know what the hell has gotten into you, Cheryl. Landon and I are nothing.” She held her hands out and smiled. “He is all yours.”
But he wasn’t.
It was time to end this.
Landon moved from his spot and caught Alexa’s attention as he joined the two women.
“What are you doing here?” Alexa asked.
Cheryl spun around and burst out laughing. “Of course, you’d be here. Why wouldn’t you be? You like to pretend that you have no feelings for her, but we all know that’s not true. You just can’t help yourself. Sneaking little glances her way again?”
He gritted his teeth. Landon thought he’d hidden his stalking a lot better.
“Don’t you see, Alexa? He’s always watching you.”
“I think it’s time for you to go,” Landon said. “You know the alpha wouldn’t like you interfering with Alexa’s lessons.”
“Oh, please. My sister is a crybaby. She doesn’t need lessons. Just throw her in the lake and make her fight for life. That’s what will work.” Cheryl turned to Alexa. “You’re lucky he’s here, otherwise, I’d have knocked you the fuck out.”
Cheryl turned on her heel and ran.
“What are you doing here?” Alexa asked.
“I was … walking on by.”
“Walking by? In the woods?”
“It happens.” The lies fell easily from his lips.
“Damn it, Landon. I do not want to get into an altercation with your girlfriend. Not now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to … well … you get the problem here. Keep her away from me.”
“Cheryl’s not my girlfriend,” he said. It was the first time he’d been honest with her.
Alexa jerked back. “Yeah, she is. Everyone knows it.”
“No, I’ve never … Cheryl and I, I mean, we’re not a couple.” This wasn’t exactly going how he’d hoped, not that he’d thought this far ahead.
“I don’t care. Your problems with Cheryl are between the two of you. I don’t want any part of it.” She grabbed her clothes from the ground and stormed past him.
The urge to reach out and grab her was strong, but he didn’t do it. He didn’t know why.
Did Alexa feel this as well?
Did she fight it?
Opening and closing his hand, he turned back and followed Alexa out of the woods. He kept his distance, not wanting to scare her, and when she was at her home, he turned off and headed to his parents’ house.
The yard was a complete mess as his mother was attempting to remodel the front lawn. Every couple of years she tried to do this, but Gertie was not green fingered. Most of the time, the plants died under her care. He would have to fix the mess she made.
Landon closed the door behind him and made his way into the kitchen, where his mother was at the stove, stirring some kind of sauce.
“Hey, Mom.”
Just another failed day of trying to stay away from Alexa.
I am always in to a novel of this genre and of this theme and must say that i was thoroughly pleased with this novel and found it pleasant to read as well as thoroughly entertaining. I would highly recommend it to others as well as invite others to take a read for themselves. Definitely a great novel in my opinion.
Took me a while to finish it. Not because it was boring or anything, but I was busy with work and writing the ongoing web novel books that I have. Its hard to find a good time to sit down and just read. The plot is simple, and by the time why i read why it was the title i was laughing. The way the events unfolded were light, not too much drama.. Looking forward to her other books.
Quick, sweet read. Lots of build up -maybe a little excessive- but overall a sweet story and great ending. I read this independently and not as part of a series and I didn't feel lost at all. Enjoy!
Alexa and Landon were born on the same day and are fated mates. However, as they got older, they started hating each other and constantly are fighting. Landon is with Cheryl, and she wants to be his mate, so she attacks Alexa. Their parents and the pack gather for a meeting and decide to handcuff them together to work things out and mate. At first it was just awkward but soon they were working together. Can they find a way to see that they don't really hate each other? What else does Cheryl have planned? This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. It's a book that any book lover would enjoy.
Alexa and Landon's story was a great one. Fated mates since birth, everyone in their pack was consistently reminding them that they were fated mates and their duties to one another, which bred hate for each other and the entire institution of it. When an attack on Alexa goes wrong, the alpha takes drastic measures to ensure these two stubborn wolves realize the gift they have in each other. Forced proximity helps these two realize they have no ground for their hate and that they actually need each other. Spicy scenes, pack drama, accepting the mate bond and a HEA await.
I struggled to read this book initially because I had a hard time understanding their actions and desire. Once I realized just how much they actually cared, the story became more interesting. I liked this story.
Born on the same day in the same pack, it was said that Alexa and Landon were to be fated mates, but as they grew you could not tell. When they came of age and experienced their first change, when they looked at each other they knew they were mates, but still did not accept it. It took the Alpha and the pack stepping in and forcing them together for them to just be together. But as time went by Alexa and Landon gave into their feelings, when they were able to explore their feelings on their own and not with the pressure of the pack.
Landon and Alexa according to myth are soulmates as they were born at the exact same time. As children they hate each other, when they get to adult hood the pack wants them mated, not if they can help it. They go on to avoid each other until their parents have had enough and handcuff them together. The forced proximity makes it so they cannot deny what each knows but the path is not easy when there is a challenger.
This is the 6th book in this series, and this is Landon and Alexa’s story. These two are destined to become mates, only problem is they hate each other. When one of Landon’s friends’ attacks Alexa, they are punished to stay together until they accept their fate. Can these two move on from enemies / lovers? This is a good story which has drama, challenges, forced proximity, and intrigue, which leads to an enjoyable read. Alexa & Landon These two were perfect together. They are both stubborn but they when they get together they are explosive. Loved it!
A suspenseful romance and then some. The authors done a great job especially with the storyline and the characters.
This book is different from SC’s usual books. It’s not as dark or angsty as I am used to. It starts with a pair of mates that deny the pull they feel for each other. I laughed with the antics they get in when they are handcuffed together and love their devotion to their pack. I must say that is it a step away from the usual Alpha male…. Landon seems almost submissive to everyone around him. There were definitely some moments where he could have taken more of a leadership role. Overall a wonderful read.
Landon and Alexa have the whole “love/hate” relationship down pat. For years they have been shoved into each other’s faces by their parents who were sure they were meant to be mates. They have got the chance to feel out for themselves if that could be true. So when they become adults and it’s clear as day that they are mates, the parents do the extreme and force them together. Little do the parents know, Alexa and Landon actually like each other and use this “punishment” to get what they want. Which is uninterrupted time together without people telling them how they should feel. This is overall a feel good book for those days you need a read that has a guaranteed HEA.
Fantastic rejected mates story but in this one Alexa and Landon reject each other, they grew up together never getting along until Alexa is attacked by one of Landon’s friends and as punishment they are both forced to live together but not everything is as it seems. I loved this story and the characters and I highly recommend this book.
Alexa and Landon are wolf shifters who were born at the same time, in the same pack. This means that they are destined to be true mates and they are constantly pushed together by their parents and the rest of the pack. However, they don't feel connected to each other and fight the mate bond. Their parents and the pack decide to force them to be together because their resistance is not only hurting each other, but the entire pack. Drastic measures are taken and they seem to be paying off when a natural bond starts to form between Alexa and Landon. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy to see these two follow their destiny and become mates, threatening their newly formed bond and testing the strength of their love. I really liked this story. It took a different spin on the fated mates trope and had a slow burn type of romance. Enjoyable and recommended.

I really like this author's stories, and the paranormal has its own appeal. I really liked this book, although there are certain things that I would have liked to have been more developed... and others that didn't take so long... Anyway, it's a good read.
One of the things I love about Sam Crescent is how easy it is to fall into her story line. This story was pretty good. I really liked Alexa and Landon's story about family pushing them together without their opinions. It goes to show if you push to hard people will rebel and do the opposite of what their parents want. But this story goes to show what can happen when you stop letting outside factors determine who you like and love and let yourself just feel, you can find the love of your life and mate. Enjoy
The characters were amazing. They are fated mates but going against it . They hate each other or do they. She gets attacked then they have to live with one another to bring them close. Fun read. I recieved a free copy via Booksprout and I’m giving my review freely and honestly
This was an entertaining read that showcased two very stubborn characters that had a ton of growth to do to find their true path. Forced proximity sure helps with that and they learn that really are fated mates ;P
This is the first shifter romance that I've read by Sam Crescent and I really liked it. It had really good characters and a great plot line that was easy to follow. It really didn't get steamy until the very end of the book but the story line was exciting and kept me wondering. I will definitely have to check out any more paranormal reads from this author as well.
Fated mates from birth who hate each other. Over time they suffer the consequences of resisting the bond until their Alpha comes up with a unique approach to couples counseling. Just when things look like they will be worked out there is a twist. The sex is mild to moderate with several scenes, vanilla, and a lot of very good oral.
When you always been told that someone is your faith or your destiny. Been pushed together since they where babies Alexa and Landon fights their feelings for each other. Neither of them willing to give in. But when their health and the wellbeing of the whole pack is at stake the Alpha has to act. I haven’t read so many shifter romances but this book made me change my mind.
I wasn't sure what to expect, even with the blurb, but this was a great read. Just goes to show that making a personal choice, rather than having decision after decision crammed down your throat, is a lot easier to accept. These two are an amazing couple. The story is different and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.
Talk about hate! Over 20 years these two have "hated" each other. It ended up seeming like they were fighting that they were mates because their parents forced it since they were itty bitty. Cheryl was terrible, so was Drew. You can't fight fate. Landon and Alexa learn this. They were great together once they have it a chance. Absolutely loved them both.
Enjoyed everything about this one, the hate-love relation in this true mates plot! Interesting plot, hot scenes, and an all important HEA.
I LOVE shifter books in general, but I have never read one quite like this! Landon and Alexa were born at the exact same time; myths say that makes them soul mates…not if they have anything to say about it. The beginning of the book shows snapshots of their lives and interactions from birth to 21, & we get a sense of how they have fought their whole lives. After all these years, their parents get fed up with their stubbornness and handcuff Landon and Alexa together. What happens from there is hot and hilarious and so emotionally honest. This was a much quicker read than I anticipated, and while I loved seeing how it ended, I was sad to have finished the book.
Talk about wanting someone so badly you treat them horrible, well that is what our two wolves did to each other. They were both always told they were mates but they could never get along, so after an incident that almost took her out, the pack chose to make them handcuffed together and we get to watch their love grow and it was so good.
Being told and pushed into being fated mates since birth just made Alexa and Landon rebel and actually become almost enemies. Forced to live together they slowly become closer and actually do want to become mates but of course there are some twists along the way to getting their HEA.

Landon's father, the Alpha decided to bring them together. Marcel explained to them, that a fated mate is a precious gift. He handcuffed them together, to facilitate their mating. Alexander, and Landon are bound to each other every day. They were cuffed to each other for one month. They begin to exlplore, and express their feelings. Their mating is challenged by another woman. Alexa has to claim, and fight for her mate. Will Alexa fight for her mate? Will she win? You have to read the book!
This book was definitely a slow burn hate to romance. The character building was done very well. The world building was also very thorough. I really wanted to smack the villain upside her head for her hateful tactics!! Through all the ups and downs Landon and Alexa finally realized that although they had tried to deny their love connection that it was there. The romance was spicy once it began and kept me reading well past bedtime.
This story is about what happens if people are left alone to let nature take its course. Alexa and Landon were born on then same day, which leads to the belief that they were fated mates and as such were forced together; As a consequence they hated each other. Due to fate they were made to view each in a different light which would lead to their reconciliation. This isa good short story and is worth reading.

Sweet quick easy read. These two are the most hard headed people. I get when everyone tells you are destined for something all your life and you don’t have a choice. The no choice makes you mad and resentful. Their hard headedness caused lots of problems. Some drama but not over the top. Very good read.
This was a short sweet shifter romance of Landon and Alexa. Growing up in the same pack being told all their lives they were true mates. Of course like any children not being told what to do or who to like they rebelled but secretly each liked one another. IMO, each of their parents were way too involved from the start. Which just complicated it further. It has a HEA. Def. Would Recommend

As a result, they stayed as far away from each other as much as possible, even when they got their wolves and discovered they really WERE fated mates! As their distance started to harm each other; Alexa getting too strong and Landon becoming weaker; the town stepped in and made them spend time with each other in a very unorthodox way! Landon and Alexa are born to the same pack on the same day, this leads everyone to believe they will be true mates. As they get older they fight like crazy. The story takes you through their lives, from birth to adulthood so you get a good idea of their feelings. Although I do begin to wonder if Landon isn't a little soft for Alexa as they get older. This book has humor in it to counter all their arguing and bickering. There is some action mixed in, they are wolf shifters after all. There isn't any intrigue or mystery we know what's going on. There is a moment of two of suspense, but it's just suspense while waiting to see the outcome of what's happening and very short-lived suspense. I enjoyed reading about how their relationship evolved and how they began to talk to each other finally. This is definitely a relationship kind of story. There are some pretty steamy scenes between the two of them once things progress in their relationship. This book is part of a series but none of the other books have to be read in order to enjoy this book.

When they finally transition to wolves they stubbornly deny their bond to the horror of the pack. Three years later the Alpha declares enough. Their rejected bond is adversely affecting not just the pack but their own wolves. Handcuffed together they will learn to get along before it is too late. I enjoyed the snapshot introduction to their relationship over the years. I loved the fact that they were both loyal to their mate despite appearances. I was unimpressed that the all knowing Alpha didn't realise that the pack pressure was the reason these two mates never stood a chance to grow together naturally. Cheryl made for an interesting bad guy, and Drew a disappointing friend. Enjoyable novella.
Landon and Alexa were fated mates from the beginning. They were to be the next to rule. Problem: they hated each other. Well hate is a strong word. It seemed that they just couldn’t stand one another for some reason. Perhaps it was being told from the start that they were meant to be. That puts a lot of pressure on someone. Then you are front and center all the time. I can understand the issue. But these two really did love each other. They just had to get past all the fated issues and just learn to trust one another. It was tough. Alexa was being teased about her weight. And Landon just couldn’t find a way to stop the cruel words from others. With the parents taking the reins and giving them a push, they learned about each other and even about themselves. Of course, there is always someone that doesn’t want them to be together.

This story starts at the birth of the two lead characters and follows through until the age of 21 and beyond with a epilogue. This is a well written story with just enough angst to add depth while the main characters realize what everyone knew from the beginning.
I love every moment of Alexa and Landon from being enemies since they were kids to being forced to coexist together since they’re already mates but are fighting the pull. The drama was superb and the action to see what is done to fulfill their happy ending was perfect.

Landon and Alexa's story is almost something that can happen in real life. When they were born the parents just went by the rumors and the old tales of fated mates never giving them the opportunity to find that out themselves so being true kids they reveled. The began hating each other. Time passes an their hatred has fractured their mated bonds. So much so they begin to feel the repercussions of them denying their mating. So when Alexa gets hurt the Alpha has to intervene make them see past thir hatred, so the pack gives them am ultimatum. When they are left to get to know each other without the pressures of everyone Alexa and Landon realize that they are in love. But trouble is around the corner can they overcome their past and bridge the whole that they created.
Hate Mates by Sam Crescent is an enjoyable enemies (hate) to lovers shifter romance. Landon and Alexa are born on the same day - in shifter world, this means they are fated mates. But they hate each other. Really hate each other. There's no way either of them believes they are mated. Their parents even start to question the mating. But when they are in their wolves, they want to be near each other, which is weird. Alexa admits that they are mates and she grows stronger while Landon grows weaker. The book is sexy, with lots of steamy scenes, but I wasn't a huge fan of the "hate" aspect. I really just wanted them to grow up, listen to each other and stop being TSTL.

I recommend it, five stars!
This is a Really good quick read. Kept my attention the whole time. Landon and Alexa are meant to be mates, but they have hated each other since they was little. A lot of bad things start happening because they have denied each for too long. Finally, the Alpha of the pack takes matters into his hands and makes them spend time together by handcuffing them. Turns out that they don't really hate each other at all, and Begin to see how much the need each other. This is a five star read! Highly recommend it!

Over time, they admit they never really hated each other and revel in being able to be near each other. But will another be able to keep them apart? Even after they have claimed each other? This is a sweet dual virgin romance that I recommend.

Landon and Alexa however grew up hating each other. Their pack steps in to force them to become mates when they begin to have negative side effects from denying the bond. Landon and Alexa really don’t hate each other. It is more the fact that they didn’t like the fact that everyone insisted that they were mates well before they would officially transition and find out. It became more habit than anything. A little danger in the story from a rival. Wish we were told what happened to Drew and Cheryl in the end.

When their parents come up with a plan to basically force the mating they are upset but have to go through with it. Slowly they learn more about each other and as you know, feelings change. But there is someone who doesn't want them to be mated. This story was sort of different as far as mating goes. I can't recall reading anything like it. I loved the tension between them and they way the parents made them learn to work together. Great story!!

Landon and Alexa, the lead characters, are wolf shifters, born on the same day in the same pack, which indicated they were true/fated mates but everyone pushed the idea so hard that they rebelled from a very young age. Now young adults, they can’t stand to interact with each other, though they are drawn to each other’s location, and there are starting to be other physical side effects. Frustrated, their clan orders them handcuffed together until they sort themselves out. As they begin to negotiate a relationship, they also need to manage a desperate female wolf’s attempt to claim Landon for herself. This novella is mainly dual POV with some secondary character POV, well written, and a fast moving, interesting, forced proximity, enemies to lovers tale. I genuinely felt that this story could have done with being longer, that there was more detail that could have been included, but it was still a very enjoyable read. The lead character and relationship development was obviously significant and the interactions were lovely.
I love a strong female role and Alexa didn’t disappoint, she was independent and kind. Sweet story about fated love - lighthearted easy read.
I really love the fate/mates troupe however, sometimes really don’t like the hate to love troupe. I was nervous but this book did a really great job of marrying both and not feeling contrived or making you hate the characters. I don’t want to put in any spoilers but the author did a great job of keeping the story moving without reiterating the exact same things again and again. The characters were likable the even though it was a werewolf shifter mates book the characters and their struggles were pretty believable. A lovely, enjoyable, light, afternoon in the backyard read.
I really liked this addition to the Alpha Collection. Landon and Alexa are destined mates born on the same day who cannot stand each other, or do they? They have fought for years and it reaches the end for the Alpha and Landon's father who makes them live together until they can hopefully figure out that they belong to each other. It starts to work and as they get closer. However, their not claiming each other have left the door open for their mating to be challenged. I liked the slow burn and then the heavy spicy when they finally get together but I enjoyed the bit of drama with the mate challenge and that Landon seemed to be the first to admit his feelings at least to himself. I really enjoy Sam Crescent's take on shifters overall and I hope that she keeps them coming.
Interesting story with interesting characters, Landon and Alexa are true mates but they hate each other or so it seems, they are stubborn and trying to fight their mutual attraction. The storyline is easy to follow, to sum it up it is a light afternoon read that you will enjoy.
Landon and Alexa, are wolf shifters, were born on the same day, same pack, and same hour. Their parents and pack mates believe they are true mates but have hated each since they were toddlers. As the years pass, they try to stay away from each other. Landon has never been with another woman not even his “girlfriend” Cheryl who wants to be Landon’s mate. The Alpha, Landon’s father, and Alexa’s parents along with the pack are tired of their bickering. They handcuff them together. They must live, sleep, and work with them being handcuffed together. They realize that they don’t hate each other. They come up with a plan to try and be mates, if they leave the cuffs off. Cheryl has her own agenda and will do anything to be Landons mate. I honestly didn’t think I would like this book…..but it was awesome. A little short but we’ll written. I have never read anything by Sam Crescent but I will be checking out the other books. There is some spicy sex scenes. Fighting. This is a haters to lovers book.
I chose to read this book because I was intrigued by the idea of fated mates that couldn't stand one another. Sam Crescent did a good job of establishing the rift early on between Alexa and Logan. Their destiny had been pushed on them since birth. So much so that they rebelled against it. Eventually, intervention was needed to help these two see that they needed to give one another a chance. Once they actually listened and didn't snap at each other, they started to see similarities and things to respect about each other. That's when they were able to begin to build a foundation. Of course, there's more to it than that, but you'll have to read the book to find out. It's a quick, enjoyable read. The author does a nice job of pulling the story together quickly and giving the reader a satisfying ending. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I wasn't aware that this was part of series at first, but it became apparent within the first few chapters. This was a fun werewolf shapeshifter romance, and I liked our main couple, Alexa and Landon. They tried so hard to deny their bond, but the pull was too strong. Following them from childhood was nice and watching their romance unfold slowly was one of my favorite tropes (slowburn). I do wish that the final showdown with the woman who tried to come between them had ended with her getting what was coming to her, but overall I'm happy with this romance. I rate this a 2.75 on the spice scale and I'd really like to read the other books in this series.

I wasn't aware before starting this book that it was part of a series, but I wasn't lost in any way. This title really was on point even though we never actually find out why they hate each other. I wished we got a bit more closure with certain characters, but that aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Thank you NetGalley and Evernight publishing for my copy of Hate Mates. I love anything by Sam Crescent and her books are always a hit for me. This book did not fail. I loved the idea of Landon and Alexa both too sturbbon to accept the connection between them with the knowledge that they are mates for years and are still fighting. I don't usually read stories with that plot so it was refreshing to do so. The only problem I had with the story is that we didn't have some more confrontations with Landon and his friends.
This was my second Crescent book, and neither has disappointed! This was a super fast and fun read. There was no painful miscommunication, no halfway through issues. No, it was just a sweet (and somewhat spicy) romance with a happy ending. It was the perfect quick read, and one if definitely recommend!

I enjoyed this book. In the beginning I was worried that it was going to feel rushed with the skipping ahead 5 years at a time, but these didn’t mess with the flow of the story as much as I thought it would. I thought the story line was unique, two shifters that deny they are mated, the pack gets involved and plays a little matchmaking. I thought this book was a sweet, steamy, and enjoyable read
