Archers Football, 2

In one devastating moment, Emmie’s life changes forever. Desperately trying to reconnect with the brother she lost, she follows his footsteps to the charming town of Anchorridge Cove. There she meets “Coleson”, and they quickly bond over their shared grief.

After winning the Super Bowl, Crew Coleson Kiles learns his mentor has died. He travels to Anchorridge Cove to honor the man he considered a father figure, and meets the woman of his dreams.

Both hide who they really are. Will their fake identities bring them together or end their future before it’s even begun?

Excerpt:

“Aren’t you going to order?” Emmie asked.

He shook his head. “Would it sound creepy if I said I only came in here because I saw you enter?”

“Yes,” she answered. “Utterly creepy.”

He grimaced. “Sorry.”

“I didn’t say creepy couldn’t be charming.” She tilted her head. “Unless you turn into a serial killer. Or a serial rapist. Or anything having to do with serial in general.”

“Scouts honor,” he said, raising his hand. “No serials.”

She grinned. “Why do I feel like you weren’t a Scout?”

“Is it my rakish allure?”

“Oh, definitely,” she murmured. “I thought to myself, self, that man can’t possibly be the next Ted Bundy because he’s got a rakish allure.”

He chuckled.

The salted caramel ribbon swirl dripped onto her fingers so she had to hurry and lick the melting sides. Crew had never wanted to be an ice cream cone more. His body reacted very inappropriately for being in a public place.

“I, um, have to go,” she said.

“Yeah, right. Me too. I’m heading to do some grocery shopping.”

“I did that yesterday.” She glanced down, and a look of uncertainty crossed her face. “I know we don’t know each other, but would you like to come over for dinner?”

“Yes,” he replied softly. “I would love that.”

“Great. So, is six tonight okay?”

“Well, let me check my calendar, oh, wait, I’m on vacation. Six would be great.”

“Great,” she answered.

“We’re saying the word ‘great’ a lot, did you notice?”

“Yeah, isn’t that great?”

He laughed.

I've read several books written by Beth D. Carter; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books. This is the second book in the Archers Football Series; it is a stand-alone short story. The story is about Emmie & Coleson.

A great comforting read.
Written by Roberta R on 3rd May 2025

We all have lost someone and the MCs in this book have too. Their emotional journey to overcome their grief is heartwarming and I liked the fact that they found each other when they desperately needed comfort. Emmie's parents were horrible and I am glad she found Crew when she needed him the most. I recommend this book to all romance readers who want that extra feel good vibe.

Enemies and Crew
Written by Jen9731 on 3rd May 2025

Play Action Pass is Book 2 of the Archers Football series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, hidden identity, curvy socialite gets her football player romance. Emerson "Emmie" is a socialite grieving the loss of her twin brother, Jacoby. She finds his journal and heads to the small town of Anchorage Cove for the summer to trace his steps and feel closer to him. Crew is a hunky professional player also grieving. He has lost his mentor and is staying at the house he was left in Anchorage Cove. Both are hiding from the press and paparazzi. When they meet, the attraction is instant, and they initially bond in their grief. Will their summer fling turn into more? This couple had insane chemistry, and the ending was so happy. My heart broke for Emmie and Jacoby, but I am glad she kicked her awful parents to the curb. I loved this couple. They were so good together.

Emmie is having a hard time moving on from the unexpected death of her twin brother. She goes to the place where he wrote about in his journal. There she meets Coleson, who is there to honor the man that had such an impact in his life. Both are hiding their real identity from the other but feel the pull to the other. I loved this story both are getting over the pain of loss and find comfort in starting something new.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a complimentary copy. Book 2 in the Archers Football series, can be read as a standalone. Crew is a quarterback for the Archers and they just won the Super Bowl, he decides to call his mentor when he receives the news that he has passed away. Crew decides to visit Anchorridge Cove so that he can pay his respects to his mentor's memory. Emmie is a young woman who recently lost her twin brother and she also is going to Anchorridge Cove, a place that her brother loved. Emmie and Crew met at a time when neither of them was looking but when they needed each other. I did not like Emmie's parents at all. Crew a stranger is much more supportive of Emmie than they were. Both Emmie and Crew are hiding who they are from each other so this may end what they have before it starts.

Emmie and Cole
Written by Babs on 3rd May 2025

The second story in the Archers Football. Emmie and Coleson both go to Anchorridge Cove to mourn the losses of her brother Jacoby and his mentor Thomas they meet while there. I found their story grabbed my interest and was well worth reading. Her parents were something else.

A comfort read of a romance
Written by Emmellen on 3rd May 2025

Play Action Pass is a comfort read of a romance. This is the story of two people accepting what they want in life versus the expectations of their family or their job status. Both Emmie and Crew are both good people who need to address losses in their lives. Emmie has the greater journey in the book, as hers is the harsher loss and also the more difficult family situation. Crew is in a more supportive role, but moves through his life changes as well. This book just goes down easy. It has a charming, small-town setting that enhances rather than overwhelms this couple. Play Action Pass is a nice addition to the Archers Football series and a straightforward and enjoyable read.

So good!
Written by Shelly44 on 3rd May 2025

So good! I read the first novel in this series and enjoyed it. This novel did not disappoint. I was excited to jump back into the series. Wow, this novel took me on such an emotional ride. From the first chapter this novel pulled me in and held on tight. Emmie has been thru so much and is working thru her grief. I loved Emmie and Coleson. I loved how they both helped each other work thru their shared grief. I loved their chemistry. I loved watching them lower their walls and fall in love. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next.

This is the second story in the "Archers Football" series. It stands alone but I am so excited it is Crew's story. This story is about Crew and Emmerson. Their story starts with both dealing with tragedy and loss. Emmie has lost her twin brother; her parents are no support. In my opinion they are disgraceful. Crew has just won the big game and reaches out to call his mentor. The next day he finds out that he passed away. He is crushed not to be able to share the bi news with but even more crushed by the other news. He feels a lot of guilt and so does she. Then end up being neighbors in Anchorridge Cove. They are both struggle with loss but are drawn to each other. This is their journey. It is heartfelt, heartwarming and loving. Such a good story! I loved every bit of it!!

New Life
Written by JeniT on 3rd May 2025

Emmie lost her brother and in mourning is trying to embrace his memory at the place he seemed to live most. Her next door neighbor lost his father figure and came to say goodbye and honor his memory. As the two get closer a shared bond blooms to something truly breathtaking. Loved their connection and the steamy moments. The banter between Crew and Emmie is fun and the grief they feel is so intense you mourn with them.

Funny, heartbreaking, uplifting - a great read
Written by EPM on 3rd May 2025

This is the second book in the Archers Football series, featuring Coleson who we met briefly in the first book. It was a great read, it was funny, heartbreaking and uplifting, all rolled into one. I was hooked and read it in one sitting. Emmie and Coleson were just what the other needed to help them work through the tough times they were each facing. I would describe it as very football lite as while Coleson is a star Quarterback, most of the book is set in the off-season, that was all good for me reading it, just don't go into this expecting it to be one of the books with lots of football action.

Healing Love
Written by DidiF on 3rd May 2025

I enjoyed this slowburn to sizzle romance. Grief and loss are explored so it is an emotion evoking read. Each of the MMC are hiding who they are as they work through the depths of loss in a small coastal town. When revelations occur will Emerson and Crew/Coleson feel the same? A journey of healing love.

Engaging
Written by LBing on 3rd May 2025

This was another engaging read for the series and it definitely hits how grieving takes time and that you have to thumb your nose at those who don't want you to be your true self. I was really invested in seeing how they both had to process their losses and the healing of their hearts. These two connected in a fab way and I loved seeing their romance unfold. Expect to get caught up in the family drama, tragedy and hot romance as Emmie and Coleson work their way to a wonderful HEA :D

Destroying the Gilded Cage
Written by A.K. Shaw on 3rd May 2025

Play Action is the second book in the Archers Football series. It is a truly romantic story that has some very sad and tragic moments. Getting through grief is a strong theme in the storyline, as is finding your true self and flipping off anyone that has a problem with it. I could not put the book down with the family drama, tragic outcomes, awesome romance, mending of grief stricken hearts, and full on giving the gilded cage the middle finger. It would have gotten a five star review, but I felt that Jacoby was glossed over a bit and Emmie's parents earned more of a blowback. Lastly, the book needed a wedding. Maybe we will see one in the next book.

Ok
Written by Pynki on 12th Jan 2025

Honestly I had a hard to getting into this one and I don't know why. The characters were ok and the writing was ok as well but I'm not sure if it was just the tone of the book that threw me off or what but it's absolutely nothing against the author which is why I still gave it 5 stars. Just wasn't for me.
