The intense urge to message or call him wasn’t an easy one to ignore. Ben had only seen her at her best. Nerdy Jess, with her glasses and fondness for oversized cardigans, was her daily default. Would he still be interested in helping her if he knew the real her?
Work had been busy. The run up to the holidays meant people were either hiding in the library or wanting to borrow books to read over the festive break. During the week Aaron Lambert, her boss, held book clubs and baby and me days. Jess spent a lot of her time managing the return trolley which had a squeaky wheel.
Christina, the friend who had cancelled meeting her at Mattel’s, popped in to see her, offering a steaming cup of coffee as an apology. Jess didn’t mention how she ended up spending the night with Ben.
The beautiful brunette had an awful habit about making everything about her. As soon as the apology left her lips, she launched into what happened with a lawyer she worked with. She hadn’t been interested in how Jess had spent her night.
Just the thought of Ben left her feeling breathless. His full lips, messy black hair, those strikingly blue eyes, and a crooked smile. For the first couple of days, Jess spent her lunch breaks in the library. A part of her was worried she’d bump into him. Even if she knew it was unlikely. He worked two jobs, and his free time was in short supply.

Sometimes she found scraps of paper used as makeshift bookmarks or a movie ticket. The pieces of information gave her a vague idea what kind of person the reader was and their taste in movies.
