Salvation Pack: The Next Generation, 4

Orphaned at birth, Jesse is raised in the Louisiana swamp by powerful witch Lottie Broussard. Hated by her father and shunned by the pack that should be hers, she is forced to run for her life after Lottie’s death.

Searching for his life’s purpose, Aaron LaForge has left his pack and is living on a farm in West Virginia.

When their paths cross in a local bar, he sees it as fate. At first, he only wants to help but quickly realizes she’s his mate. Jesse isn’t ready or willing to trust anyone—let alone a male wolf. But Aaron is as stubborn as he is convincing. As their relationship heats up, the dangers around them mount. Can their love survive their fight to stay alive?

Excerpt:

Closing her eyes, she inhaled deeply and dropped her guard. Her wolf sprang forward. In a matter of a heartbeat, her jaw lengthened and her forehead flattened. Fur pushed out from under her skin. As she fell forward, her hands and feet morphed into large paws. When her eyes snapped open, they were the same pale blue. Everything else had changed.

Giving a good shake, she settled into her skin before twitching her ears. The sound of water caught her attention. She was off like a flash. The wolf’s delight became her own. Invigorated, she ran, splashing through the shallow stream, sending a spray of water over her fur. Shaking, she grinned and kept going. The scent of wild blackberries changed her course. She daintily nibbled them straight off the branches.

More alive than she’d been in months, she frolicked and played, ducking under branches, leaping over large rocks. Every now and then, the voice of reason raised its head and cautioned her to leave. She ignored it and kept running. The night and the forest were hers.

If she couldn’t embrace her whole self, what was the point of fighting to stay alive?

The moon had shifted position in the sky—a reminder that dawn was coming. It was time to go back. The air around her stilled and became charged. Jesse crouched low and froze. Her wolf was excited, sensing another of their kind nearby.

Adrenaline surged through her veins. Her heart began to gallop. Still, she didn’t move, forcing herself to stay still and silent. Had her sire and his flunkies found her? She didn’t see how they could have but didn’t discount the possibility. The other scenarios were it was a random wolf or the one from the bar.

I should have run when I had the chance.

Hindsight was always twenty/twenty. She’d let her guard down and was paying the price. The injustice, the unfairness of it, made her want to snarl and snap. She quivered but brought herself back under control.

Had he seen her? Had he sensed her? Could she sneak by him?

She’d spent a lifetime playing cat and mouse in the swamp around her home, avoiding wolves from the Louisiana Pack who ventured too close or when she’d had to go outside the boundaries of Lottie’s land for supplies. Drawing on all her skills, she twitched her ears, seeking.

There! Off to the left.

If she could sneak behind the low hill on her right, she might be able to avoid detection. Then she’d run like hell and not look back.

Her wolf protested, wanting to play with the other one. The beast was as lonely as Jesse, deprived of others of her kind all her life.

Not safe, she warned. Her wolf clearly didn’t agree but didn’t fight her decision.

Belly low to the ground, she inched toward her goal. She listened for movement, but heard none. Where is he? What’s he doing?

The silence was unnerving. Even the wind had ceased, as if sensing something more powerful than itself in its midst.

Stop being melodramatic.

She kept up a steady internal dialogue to keep herself from bolting. Fear led to mistakes, which led to death. Something she really wanted to avoid.

The hill was inches away.

I’m going to make it.

Resisting the urge to hurry, she kept her snail-like pace, not disturbing a leaf or rock to give away her presence. Nearly there. Just a little farther. She rounded the far end…

And ended up nose to nose with an enormous male wolf.

Startled, she jumped back and growled, showing her fangs. The male calmly sat and tilted his head to one side. She’d never seen a wolf this big before. It would take almost two of her paws to make one of his. His fur was a combination of rich browns with a hint of black. His eyes were sky blue.

She backed away slowly. He stood, walked a few steps toward her, and sat again.

What’s his game? Not about to wait to find out, she whirled around and took off. It was folly to think she could outrun him, but maybe she could lose him.

Taking a straight line back to her bike, she ran like the hounds of hell were after her, her paws barely hitting the ground before they were in the air again. She risked a glance behind her. No sign. Maybe her luck was changing.

Her lungs were close to bursting when she charged through the brush. Her bike was just ahead. She broke from between the trees and stopped so fast she tumbled, her back end flipping over her front. She twisted midair so she landed on all fours facing him.

He’d gotten around her.

The big bastard wasn’t even breathing hard while she was panting and sweating. The fury she’d suppressed for years surged to life, shoving aside all reason. The need to hurt, to punish someone for all she’d endured, roared to life.

Snarling, Jesse leaped at him.

Great story!
Written by Speed Racer on 16th Apr 2023

Another great read by Ms. Walters. This is the story of Aaron and Jesse. Jesse is running away from family problems that are literally chasing her and ends up meeting Aaron. The story progresses as they both find a way to stop the danger that is coming for her, all the while developing feelings for each other. Aaron is more aware of the situation between them than Jesse, especially after what she has been through.

A fun shifter book with just the right amount of emotion, sexy times, and adventure
Written by Stephanie P on 1st Jan 2023

This is part of a second generation series for the Salvation Pack of North Carolina. Aaron is trying to find his purpose and role within the pack by living outside of the bounds of the group for a while. He runs into Jessie at a bar as she is on the run from her father and his pack. Aaron pretty quickly realizes that she is his mate and that he will do pretty much anything to keep her safe - even if it means taking her home and having the danger follow her there. Jessie and Aaron are really sweet together and as a fated-mates, shifter book goes - there romance really is very believable and relatable even with it happening on fast forward. You do not need to have read the original series or any other books in this series to understand what is going on or to enjoy this book. It will help you understand why the Salvation Pack is different - but it definitely isn't needed! Overall - this is a fun shifter book with just the right amount of emotion, sexy times, and adventure. I received this via NetGalley as an ARC, but these opinions are all my own.

As a newbie in thevSalvation Pack series, I found that I had some trouble with getting up to date with all the pack dynamics. Especially, since both Jesse and Aaron have grown up are outcasts in their packs. However, NJ Walters will keep you on the edge of your seat, while you are wondering how the story will unfold. And just if you think you got it all figured out, the story will take an unexpected turn. As usual, a wonderful story on love, courage and family ties. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

There’s no denying the Mate-Bond! Jesse is on the run – not only from her father who wants to kill her but also from a group of human hunters. She has lived with a witch for the past twenty-five years, but now the witch is dead and Jesse must survive on her own. She has been on the run for a few months when she meets Aaron, who has bought Bailey’s farm and is living there to find himself. Well, the himself he was looking for was actually Jesse. As with most paranormal books, the insta-love/mate-bond is there, for Aaron at least. Jesse has a (momentary) harder time accepting it, simply because she doesn’t trust easily! Aaron has to pull back his protective instincts once he realizes that Jesse is an independent wolf who is used to taking care of her own problems. Somehow, they manage to meet in the middle and get their HEA but not without plenty of action and drama as her father and the hunters get closer. For a while, it did feel as though Aaron is the one doing all the chasing and changing. I knew by that point that Jesse hadn’t had it easy, but it takes two to make a relationship work. She did catch up eventually, after leaning heavily on her martyr complex, so it was all good in the end, but I felt as though I’d worked for it! A great addition to the series and I’m happy to have read Aaron’s story and also see a small follow-up into Nicholas and Bailey. Recommended by me.

There's absolutely nothing like a good shifter/werewolf romance. Wolf Meets His Fate has everything you know and love about paranormal romances: alpha male, mates, found family, and a little bit of danger and magic. I absolutely loved how Aaron let Jesse make her own decisions. We love an alpha male who also respects his mate enough to ask for consent. It was a beautiful book! Links:

I had never read N.J. Walters books, but that wasn't a problem here. I absolutely fell in love with the Salvation pack! The character development arc in this book was on point and there was the perfect amount of spice! I have already recommended this book to everyone I know that read fantasy romance! And I might have bought all the other books in Salvation Pack and Salvation Pack: Next Generation series.

While this book is part of a series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone and completely understand everything that happens in it! Jesse was raised in the Louisiana swamps by the local witch, Lottie. Her mother gave her life to bring her there and keep her safe from her father. She is hated by her father and not a part of the pack that she should have been due to the circumstances of her birth. And when Lottie passes away, she is forced to leave what she knows and run. Aaron has left his pack and family and is staying in West Virginia just trying to figure out what he should be doing with his life. And when he crosses paths with Jesse in a bar, he knows that she needs help. But he quickly realizes that she is fate-his mate. Jesse has learned to distrust male wolves, but Aaron is stubborn and not willing to give up on the one woman who could make his life worth living. And when the danger that follows her comes calling, he will do anything and everything to keep her safe. I really liked this book! Jesse has never truly been safe and she has a lot of issues just because of her birth and parentage. But I loved that Lottie showed her care and didn't treat her like a hated responsibility. And not only that but she did what she could to provide her with protection even after she was gone. Jesse has this strength and will to survive that you can't help but love, but she also has this huge capacity for caring about people. Aaron was definitely struggling in the beginning of this book. But the way he treats Jesse, even before he knows she is his mate showed just how good of a man he is. They have this instant chemistry that I liked along with the fact that they are truly compatible. It's not just about lust and such, there is more to everything that just that. My only drawback, I wish there had been a little more to the dealing with the bad guys. I almost felt like it was anticlimactic, but that was my only drawback!

I am really enjoying this author's shifter books. This one is good too. Orphan Jesse is raised in the swamp by a notorious witch. She is forced to run for her life when the witch Lottie dies because her father wants her dead. She was protected as long as Lottie was alive. She runs into Aaron who realizes that she is his mate. Aaron is a great book boyfriend. Protective and sweet. Jesse has to learn to trust Aaron and accept his help and his love is she wants a future. Great plot and very nice romance.

Another exciting visit to Salvation… From the heart-pumping moments that started this story I knew it was going to be another emotion-packed read. Jesse’s beginning was anything but ordinary and the life that followed was the same. When Aaron met her, he wanted to protect her. And keep her… Jesse lived the meaning of an independent and, unfortunately, a lonely life. When the only person she called family was gone, she was on her own in all ways. And didn’t see that changing. I loved how Jesse and Aaron met. Nothing like extreme circumstances to stir up strong emotions – and did it ever. Given who she was, and who Aaron was, their relationship seemed doomed from the start. Thankfully, they were both stubborn and resourceful. Love mattered and was worth the effort. Even if that included battling deadly enemies and complicated family trees… This author is one of my favourites. I can’t resist great stories with real characters and she makes witches and wolves not only plausible but entertaining and highly lovable…

This author is new to me, so having not read the previous books in this series I was worried I would struggle with it. Despite my worry it read fine as a stand alone and was a fast paced, steamy read. The characters are incredibly likable too. There are some great unexpected twists that help this book to stand out from the crowd. I will certainly be reading more in this series and from this author I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jesse's mother was an unmated female who got pregnant and her pack turned their backs on her. The father was mated and already had two daughter's but wanted a son. So when her mother went into labor and gave birth by herself to a baby girl, she knew the father would kill them both. But her mother knew she only had a little while to live because she was bleeding to death, so she got them both in a boat and headed to where the witch lived. She got Jesse to safety right before she died and Lottie, the witch raised the baby herself. She kept her safe, knowing that the father would kill her if he ever found out about her. Jesse's parents were both werewolves so she is too. After Jesse was grown, Lottie passed away and her life is thrown into danger since she no longer has Lottie's power to keep her safe. While she's on the run for her life and her father and his flunkies are hot on her tail, she comes across Aaron who is also a werewolf. Aaron can sense that Jesse is a werewolf but she flea's when she notices him and he doesn't understand why she's so scared of her own kind so he goes after her. Once he catches up to her he offers to help her for the night and after some convincing, she takes him up on the offer. When he finally learns from her what she's running from, he's more than a little angry that she's having to deal with this and he offers to help her but she doesn't want to get him involved and possibly killed. But he's persistent and she wants trust him but it's really only after the bad guys somehow catch up with her and put both of them in danger that he takes over and gets his father involved who happens to be his pack's alpha. I loved Jesse, she's a fighter and tough as nails. She's really been on her own most of her life even though Lottie raised her. But she didn't have her family or pack around her and she's had a hard life knowing that her own father wants her dead. Aaron is such a wonderful hero. He's tough when it's called for but caring and gentle when he knows Jesse needed it. I liked the ending and how they dealt with the problem. I'm having a good time with this series so far.

I finally finished this after taking my thesis. I remember really liking this at first, I did enjoy it because it has good writing. As someone who has read a lot of werewolf books, I can definitely say that this is one those that has good writing compared to those I've read in this genre. The characters, Aaron and Jesse, were likeable. I liked how the story started, it really hooked me. This also has multiple point of views and it's not divided into chapters, sometimes it would just be cut into another paragraph but I didn't mind it that much since I understood it. I would've given this five starts if not for the repetitive dialogues and the part before the ending which was totally random in my opinion. Overall, I really enjoyed this and I am planning on reading this series since I am curious about Jacque and Gwen's story.

This was my first read by N.J. Walters, and I was a bit worried about jumping into a series without having read the previous books. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I was able to jump into the world Walters has created for her shifters. This could be because Wolf Meets His Fate is set outside of the pack territory and she does a great job of setting up Jesse and Aaron as strong protagonists apart from the other books in the series. When we are introduced to previous characters, it is from Jesse's POV and the introductions and explanations to their history is natural and doesn't feel as though we're being force fed "character updates". There is a high level of steam to this books but Walters doesn't sacrifice character or plot to fit it in. Even coming into this series midway, I really enjoyed the story and world Walter's created and I will be checking out more of her work.

It’s been awhile since I read a book by N.J. Walters and I must say this is a great read. Jesse is a wolf shifter and was orphaned at birth raised by Lottie a powerful witch. Jesse’s mom died giving birth to her and her father tries to kill her. She was shunned by her pack in the swamps of Louisiana. With the death of Lottie the pack comes after Jesse wanting her dead and she is on the run. Aaron is a wolf shifter who left his pack and is living on a farm in West Virginia. Jesse and Aaron meet each other at a local bar and Aaron is strongly attracted to her and finds out the reason he is attracted to her is that she is his fated mated. Jesse needs to trust someone; can she trust Aaron. Jesse wasn’t raised around wolves and doesn’t know that life style can she trust Aaron. How will Aaron convince Jesse that they are fated mates, can he convince her to trust him, will he be able to protect her from wolf pack that is after, why is the pack after Jesse and why was she shunned by them?

The only person that she had was a power feared witch who is now dead. So she is on the run when she meets Aaron. I am a huge fan of Ms. Walters, so for me this was a must read. Loved it.

I don't know why, but I did not know this book was about werewolf (I should have known based on the title). It was a good surprise. I really loved Jesse, and Aaron, but I feel like their characters were not developped enough to my tastes. The book was kinda short, so something had to go. The story was good, enough descriptions, and details. I would just have loved more characters developpement.

Yowza! What a beginning! It definitely was not what I expected. We pretty much get to learn about Jesse from her very beginning so once we get to the present, it’s easy to understand her motivations. And why she has such deep distrusts and insecurities. In walks Aaron into her life and nothing will be the same. He’s strong and fierce but you can tell he has a vulnerable side. Something is missing from his life and he’s far from his family trying to sort it out when the missing puzzle piece walks in. I think I may have found my favorite couple in this new generation series: Aaron and Jesse. I am such a sucker when it comes to two strong main characters with fragile sides. Him trying to sort his life’s purpose and her struggling to stay alive. They get hot between them but something else begins to bloom – hope. While the pacing of the story is fast, it has a natural progression to it. Honestly, once I started reading I just couldn’t put it down. I should also mention, there’s a cat. Who doesn’t love a shifter book that has a cat! I always think it’s funny when authors write series and then say they can be read as standalones. *Rolls eyes* So okay, maybe you could get away with it in this case but are dynamics to this series that will be missed. Like the connections between the original five members of the Salvation Pack and their now grown children. So if you want to truly appreciate all the characters and their importance, do yourself a favor grab yourself the first series and read it before jumping into this next generation. You’ll thank me later.

Aaron is the alpha's son trying to find his way when he sees Jesse, a lone wolf on the run.. Instantly attracted, he searches for her, only to learn that she doesn't want to be found. When she's forced to accept his help, the sparks fly. Before long, they're both smitten and fighting for their lives. Fans of the genre will love this book. Wolf Meets His Fate is a fabulously riveting and beautifully heart-wrenching journey of discovering the hidden beauty and well spring of love that comes from pain and determination. This story stole the very breath from my lungs as it tore my heart to shreds. Nothing about it is easy, but the precious gift discovered along the way makes it all worth while. Jesse is desperate to escape the lethal danger that haunts her every step. She doesn't know what peace or love is because she isn't able to stay in one place long enough to even rest. When she is thrown into the path of a mysterious male wolf, she runs as if the hounds of hell are nipping at her feet. She never expected someone like Aaron would find her or much less want her to stick around. Aaron is intrigued and before long utterly smitten by the beautiful Jesse. She calls to him like no other woman, and he wants to find out why. Will these two have a chance to explore the promise of love and more between them, or will the evil that haunts Jesse take it all away before she can take her next breath? Jesse is an enigma wrapped in a riddle, and Aaron can't wait to unwrap her. He knows she means something to him, and he will never let her go. I absolutely love the determination of Aaron to hold onto Jesse not matter what. She fills a void in his life, and he refuses to let her walk away because she would take his heart with her. Even though Jesse can't stay, she also knows her heart won't let her leave Aaron. He is dangerous, and yet he has imprinted himself onto her very soul. He is a part of her, and she will fight to keep him. N.J. Walters has given us a spectacular gift of hope, love, perseverance, and loyalty in her latest masterpiece. There is nothing better then curling up with a book from N. J. Walters. You know you will find exactly what you need within its pages every time. While I have thoroughly enjoyed her Brotherhood series, this sounds like a very good series as well to dive into and savor.

ARC provided by NetGalley and Evernight Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Please note this is the first book I've read a by this author. (#4 in Salvation series, Jesse and Aaron's story.) I'm not going to lie, I have a love of paranormal romance books. I really enjoyed this book. 4.5/5 From the beginning, I was drawn into the story. Jesse's a lone wolf on the run from a father that's wanted her dead, since the day she was born. She is a survivor. A motorcycle riding badass with a stubborn and independent streak. Aaron is the alpha's son, trying to find himself away from his pack. He's strong, a good listener with a lot of love to give. After a freak encounter, he goes searching for Jesse, but she doesn't want to be found and fur flies. Before long, they're reluctantly fighting together for their lives and forming a bond. I will forever adore Aaron for being adopted by Bast, the cat. Fans of this genre will I love this book! The best part, for me, is they're several books in the Salvation series to continue your reading adventure. While this book is part of a series, this can be read as a stand-alone book.

this story would work well on it's own. it's along the lines of fated mate/insta-love but, while the relationship moves quickly, it doesn't feel rushed as the Jesse and Aaron actually do talk and discuss their feelings and worries as things progress. Aaron tempers his protective alpha instincts, understanding that Jesse has fears due to being on the run and her past while Jesse shows her own inner strength and smarts as she refuses to roll over under male alpha power or her own insecurities and fears. there's plenty of different action as well as some sweet & funny moments. All in all a pleasant, easy read making for an enjoyable afternoon relaxing.
