Hearts on Fire, 4

Liya Wolford deeply loves her husband, but being married to a firefighter isn’t always easy. She started baking to distract herself from constantly worrying about him, and this leads to an amazing opportunity for her. All she wants is for Damon to support her the same way she’s always supported him.

Damon Wolford has a successful career and a happy home life, and much of the latter can be attributed to Liya. He tries to show his appreciation around the house and in the bedroom, but it turns out there’s something else she needs from him. If he doesn’t step up, he runs the risk of losing her.

Excerpt:

“Before you go, do we have time to talk about something?” Time had gotten away from her.

Damon’s expression stiffened, and she quickly backtracked. “It’s nothing bad. It could be really good, but I wanted to run it by you first.”

He still looked wary. “I’m listening.”

“You know how I’ve been bringing my baking leftovers to work?” At his nod, she went into the story of how Justin had shared his birthday cupcakes with the right people, the offer from the restaurant, and how she’d have to get her Food Protection Certificate before she could take them up on it.

She stopped to sip her coffee, which had cooled off as she spoke. “So what do you think?”

Damon looked dumbfounded. “When I get it, I’ll let you know.”

Liya was confused. “What’s there to get?”

“For one thing, the fact that you seem to think you’re living in a chick flick instead of real life.”

“Excuse me?”

“That’s what it sounds like when you say you want to quit your job to be a baker.”

“I wouldn’t be quitting my day job, just doing this on the side.”

“But why do you want a side gig? You’re doing well at work, I thought you liked it, and I’m making enough that you don’t need two jobs.”

“Nice as the extra money would be, that’s not the only reason. And I didn’t say boo when you decided to take the inspector’s exam. What’s the difference between you getting licensed as an inspector and me getting a Food Protection Certificate?”

“Because that makes sense for my career, and this…” His expression changed from confused to concerned. “Are you having a midlife crisis?”

“Thirty-three is too young for that!” Maybe that wasn’t the smartest retort, but it was the first one that came to mind. “It’s not a midlife crisis, it’s an interesting opportunity that I want to take advantage of. But I also want your input and support on this.”

Damon glanced at his phone. “I have to get downtown. We’ll talk about this later.”

He leaned in for their usual good-bye kiss, but Liya drew back. She wasn’t in the mood to kiss or touch him after he’d treated her like this. “Go on, but I want you to think about this on your commute. The whole time I’ve been with you, I’ve gone to every fire get-together as your plus-one, held down the fort while you’re at work, bent over backward to have holidays with you, and supported you when you wanted to take the exam. So when are you going to do the same for me? When’s it gonna be my turn?”

She didn’t wait for an answer, but walked out of the room.

Back On Track
Written by Joyce M. H. on 1st Jan 2023

This is my first time reading anything by this author Chelle De Notte. I enjoyed reading “For All The Right Reasons” the last book in the series. Damon is a firefighter and he thinks that everything is fine with he and his wife Liya. Liya is having a difficult time in her marriage she wants and needs her husband to support her just she supports him. When there is no support and open lines of communications couples tend to grow a part. This is a great read that deals with a married couple supporting each other and getting back to why they love each other and married.

First time reader of Chelle de Notre and I really liked her story. This was an easy read about Damon and Liya day to day life. The story focused on this husband and wife duo going through career changes and wanting the other person to support their life choices. Join this story to see the next level of relationship goals with this husband and wife. Enjoy!

For All the Right Reasons!
Written by Mary on 1st Jan 2023

This is a fairly new author for me and I really enjoyed her story. It is a fairly short and quick read about couple Damon and Liya. Damon is a firefighter that has been supported by Liya even though the job makes ehr worry. Liya has developed a skill with baking as a distraction. She know wants to get a special license so she can sale her goods. Damon did not react the way he should. Will this couple work things out? I liked seeing the light come on and how things are handled. Such a good read with wonderful characters. I look forward to reading more stories from this writer.

Great read
Written by Nikki R on 1st Jan 2023

This book was about a couple who were experiencing real life issues during their marriage and how they overcame them. Liya expresses interest in becoming a baker on the side and Damon is not very supportive of this side gig. Damon was not very understanding if Liya and her needs. He eventually caught on after having a discussion with his married friend.

This is the first book I've read written by Chelle de Notte; I can’t wait to read more of her books. This is the fourth book in the Hearts on Fire Series; it is a stand-alone short story. The story is about Liya & Damon. I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

Just the Two of Us—Together!
Written by rjreads on 20th Dec 2022

I liked the fact that this couple was already married and had a great relationship. So, it made sense for them to have an obstacle that threatened to change the dynamics of the relationship. I kept waiting for the shoe to fall and I'm happy that it didn't, at least not the one that I was anticipating. Overall, I liked the story and I'll definitely be reading more of this author's work. NOTE TO AUTHOR: I appreciate the homework you did to bring these characters to life. Thank you.
