Genius put on the coffee. That amazing smell drifted through the apartment. He took a quick shower, then set up a video of a romantic fireplace on the TV and lit a bunch of candles around the house. Condoms on the coffee table along with a small bottle of lube. He was feeling romantic, so he also got out his rarely used heart boxers. That was the only thing he wore when he opened the door twenty-five minutes later.
Brett arched a brow. “What if it was some stranger?”
“That is a very good point, and if this stranger offered me a blowjob, you might have competition.” He grinned and closed the door behind Brett.
He toed off his shoes, looking good in his black suit pants and plain button-down shirt. The gun and badge were still on his hips as he glanced around. “What’s all this?”
“What do you mean? This is how my apartment always looks.” Genius grinned.
Brett grabbed his hand. “All kidding aside, thank you for the last few days.”
“All kidding aside, you’re welcome for the last few days.” Genius closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around Brett and holding him tight. He savored the body contact and warmth.
Brett stuck his face against his neck, his lips pressing firmly.
“Thought you wanted coffee first?” Genius eased back so he could look into that handsome face. He couldn’t fight the urge to kiss him. Their lips met slowly. Softly. It was like they were making love with their mouths. Genius tugged the bottom of Brett’s shirt up, and they parted so he could take it off.
Brett’s pale skin was a little sweaty from the summer heat outside. Those nipple rings glinted beautifully in the candlelight.
Genius licked the right, then the left, tugging on it just a little. He kissed Brett’s pec, trailing his tongue upward until their lips met again.
There was a thud.
Genius glanced down to see Brett had undone his belt. His gun and badge were on the floor. He grinned, using his hands to unzip Brett’s pants, then shoved them down. And he wasn’t wearing any underwear! His cock bounced free, looking delicious. Genius arched a brow. “Well, now I feel overdressed.”
“I can help with that.”
Brett's ex, Jiang called him in to help on a 3yo, Talo missing child case. Genius, is Brett's current boyfriend. Brett and Genius's relationship is still on the downlow. Genious is a bit wary of Jiang being back in Breatt's life again. Brett, is just trying to do his job. Do they find Talo, alive? Do they catch the kidnapper? Do Jiang, Brett and Genious work without fireworks? Good story. Nicely done.
Pretty good short story about finding a missing child. It's almost like looking into the future. I guess you need to read the pervious books to really know what's going on.
I really enjoy the banter between the 2 characters. This book was a little more intense because of the ex factor. You can see how the relationship is building and growing. I can't wait til they become an official couple. My only concern is with genius looking into brett's parents death how brett handles it.

Brett is a detective who is partnered with Genius who is an inventor. They are in a new romantic relationship. Though they are on the homicide team, they are asked to be on a kidnapping of a little girl who's uncle is Brett's old boyfriend. Genius realizes that Brett's old boyfriend wants him back. I really enjoyed this book.
Another new case for our detective and our inventor. Sexy, entertaining, with a bit of humor and a bit of passion, this story tells us about another case solved by the intelligent partners. We learn more about their daily lives, and how their relationship slowly evolves.
The Darkest Hope is the fifth book in the Big Balls and Brass Knuckles series. This is the first book I've read by James Cox. Loved it. I loved intrigue and the relationship between Brett and Genius. I hate coming in at the middle. I definitely will be reading the other books.
I have enjoyed all the stories in the series so far and this was no exception. A quick and enjoyable read.
The danger and suspense in the case of a missing child brings Brett back into contact with his ex-boyfriend. Tensions rise as the investigation continues as Genius tries to hold back his jealousy. A shocking betrayal leaves the mother reeling as the identity of the kidnapper is revealed. Brett falls into Genius's arms as the investigation closes and they continue their affair behind closed doors.
This is a great series and the stories, while short, are interesting and intriguing. You get a lot in the short length without it feeling very rushed. I can't wait for the next story.
Loving each and every installment in this series. And now we're getting into more emotional and intriguing territory has Genius begins the investigation into the death of Brett's parents. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
