Kemper Ribar was searching for an oasis where he could recharge his batteries when he stumbled upon the Wrong Side of Heaven, an intriguing bar in the middle of nowhere. He hoped this pit stop would prove to be the respite he was looking for from the politics of his motorcycle club.

As a forty-year-old man, Kemper never anticipated that he would find himself making an instant connection with Chester, a free spirit operating what he came to realize was the town’s only gay bar. Flustered, he flees. But something keeps drawing him back, and soon, Kemper realizes that life could be different.

As the attraction builds between the two, it makes Kemper question everything … his identity, his choices, even his devotion to his club.

Excerpt:

“I’m starting to doubt my place in the club. Everything is different from how it was twenty years ago.”

One eyebrow went up in surprise. “All right. How was it twenty years ago?”

“It was … fun. I was surrounded by men who had my back and I had theirs. A family. Trust. I was never going to be a nine to five type of guy, and the club gave me a stability I didn’t even know I needed.”

“And now?” Chester asked.

“Now, I don’t trust any of them.” That admission was hard to voice. He felt like he was losing something that was his whole identity. “I feel like I’m alone again.”

Sympathy filled Chester’s eyes. “Is it the club that’s changed? Or you?”

“That’s what I’m afraid of. Because if I don’t have the club, then who am I?”

The question scared him so much he was willing to talk about it to a complete stranger.

“What is it that you like about it? I mean, is it the comradery? Being an outlaw? Freedom from the norm? Pussy?”

Kemper snorted. “That last, absolutely not.”

Chester raised an eyebrow.

“I mean, once upon a time, pussy was a good motivator. But it’s not sexy when a woman is faking, and they all fake it. Besides, fucking a woman with a dozen other men’s cum inside her isn’t as sexy as you’d think.”

“I never thought pussy was sexy to begin with.”

“Touché,” Kemper said dryly.

Not what I expected
Written by Laora on 27th Oct 2023

Ribar and Chester seemed an unlikely coupling in this novella. I was pleasantly surprised how natural it felt and how their relationship developed and loved the queens on the side. Ribar his turning point in live came at the right time and after distancing from his biker 'family' for a bit he finds a new family. I am happybthatbthe author leaves Ribar his sexuality label truely fluid.

This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it, the story starts slow and it’s a bit hard to get into but persevere and it’s a story well worth reading with some really interesting characters and a good hea.

Wonderful story
Written by Kati81 on 2nd Oct 2023

This is the first time I've read this authors book and I must say it was great. Kemper Ribar is a member of a outlaw MC club, but he no longer finds pleasure in his life. At forty, he feels restless and seems to have no purpose in life. While returning to the club, he decides to stop at a roadside bar whose name captured his attention. In this way, he unknowingly ends up in a gay bar, where he meets an intriguing bartender, and also the owner of the place. This meeting turns out to be a turning point in his life. This book is in the straight to gay romance genre. However, it does not focus so much on the physical side of romance, but more on Kemper's discovery and acceptance of his own sexuality. Ribar, although he considers himself a tolerant man, the thought that he could feel any interest in another man is terrifying to him. The colorful drag queen characters who bring a lot of humor to the story are like aliens to him (although with their personalities you could sometimes say that they are rather invaders ?). The best thing about this book is the great portrayal of the characters. It is a wonderful story about fighting prejudice and finding friends and love in unexpected places and circumstances.

Wrong Side of Heaven
Written by KMS on 2nd Oct 2023

This book was surprisingly good, I enjoyed reading about Ribar (Kemper) and Chester. These two men come from different walks of life but understand what family is supposed to mean. Kemper is a man who is determined not to fight with his biker club over bs. Chester is a man who just wants to run his bar the way he wants meeting Kemper was a game changer. These two men find a lot about themselves and it’s an eye opener.

Kemper finds something unexpected
Written by Maleficent on 2nd Oct 2023

Kemper Ribar did not want to party at the clubhouse that night, what used to be fun when he was younger, at almost forty it no longer had any appeal. Out on a ride at night he comes across a bar, the Wrong Side of Heaven and decides to check it out. He makes a connection with the bartender, Chester, until he realizes it is a gay bar, a bit flustered he leaves. It is not long before he finds himself back there again. He makes friends with Chester, but he keeps coming back as he is attracted to Chester and it is throwing everything he has known about himself. As the pair becomes closer, Kemper is having issues with his club, will choices be made for him before he can figure out what he wants? This was a beautiful story, Kemper was at a crossroads in his life and was looking for something more, he never expected the Wrong Side of Heaven was exactly what he needed.

The Wrong Side of Heaven
Written by Love2read1961 on 2nd Oct 2023

The Wrong Side of Heaven is the place that Kemper walks into. It isn't your usual bar. It's a gay bar and the bartender/owner, Chester sees this biker walk in and wonders just what is going to happen. What he doesn't expect is for Kemper to keep coming back again and again. Kemper is straight. Only wanted women, never a man. But there is something about Chester that has Kemper thinking about him often. Plus the customers at the bar welcome him like this biker club hasn't done in a very long time. The biker club is changing for the worse and Kemper has to make a decision on staying or going his own way, along with Chester. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Monvey.

Wonderful!!
Written by Martylou on 2nd Oct 2023

This is a wonderfully written, emotional, gradually building, complex story about how life changes, and people change, and how that's okay, even when it's scary. Yes, it's a romance between Kemper and Chester, but it's way more than that, and it's beautifully done. There is so much reality, and poignant conversations that just pass like they are every day occurrences, and I loved it. Of course, there is drama and some violence (Ribar IS a biker in an outlaw MC, after all), but nothing about it feels gratuitous or unnecessary. I love how he grew and changed and came to terms with his own evolution. He was so awkward and understandably uncomfortable when he couldn't understand WHY he was feeling so adrift and was drawn to a place, and to people, he would never have imagined he would want to call home. I think this is a well-paced, well-written story, I love how sweet, and low-angst, and believable the love story between Kemper and Chester was, and I will definitely add Elizabeth Monvey to my list of authors I automatically read.

I fell for temper and Chester!!
Written by Anne H on 2nd Oct 2023

I fell for temper and Chester. Kemper/Ribar has been with his motorcycle club for over 20 years, and he wouldn’t have it any other way, but the new president was making his life difficult, making everyone’s life difficult by using the drugs that were meant to be sold. Yes, it was party night every night at the club, but Kemper had had enough. One day when he was out on a run he stopped at a bar called wrong side of Heaven. He liked the name of the bar, so he stopped in for a beer only to find that it’s a gay bar. The guy behind the bar doesn’t like his attitude so he tries to pay. Chester The owner pushes his money back saying he doesn’t want his money with the attitude he has. Kemper leaves and heads back to the club confused. When he got back, another party was going on, but the president accused him of stealing Kemper was just frustrated. Chester couldn’t understand why he kept thinking about the biker. It was obvious that he was straight, but he just made his body sing. And he was very surprised when Kemper returned. He could tell he was getting flustered with the drag queens, so he took pity on him and ask him to help in the storeroom. He could feel a tension between them. Chester knew his was sexual tension that he didn’t know about the biker. Kemper couldn’t understand why he couldn’t stop thinking about Chester, but he knew that begin at the bar was better than being at his club. So how will this end??? This is the first book, I’ve read by Elizabeth Monvey and I’ve got to say I was totally blown away. I took a chance on this book because I liked the teaser as I like to call them and she just did not disappoint. This was a fantastic read. My heart went out to Kemper He was just totally confused about his sexuality, but he didn’t care Chester was a man it was what he felt when he was with him. And Chester really took a chance on him because he wasn’t sure how his biker was going to react. I’ve got to say the passion that these two share and the connection is just outstanding. It’s just Lush it is what we all want from a relationship. A fantastic read and I will look out for Elizabeth again because this book was just heaven to read.

Finding love where you least expect it
Written by Trouble in FL on 17th Aug 2023

This story brings many LGBTQ+ issues to the forefront. When a straight MC man ends up in a gay bar, he meets gay men and drag queens, including one straight drag queen. He is uncomfortable but something draws him there and he starts to question some things about himself. His reactions and that of the MC club he belongs to show the ignorance and prejudice that meets the queer community. I found the story uplifting and romantic and I wanted more when I finished the book. There is an HEA and no cliffhanger. There is graphic gay sex and references to the straight debauchery that goes on at the MC clubhouse.

This book was everything
Written by Kaylapolk on 17th Aug 2023

Kemper was the struggling with his identity and his place in his MC. One night coming back from around he stopped at a random bar. Unknowing that it was a gay bar when he walked in he seen Chester behind the bar but didn't quite understand where he was at yet. After the first night there he kept going back was helping Chester with the bar And fighting his attraction to this man. He was almost 40 years old and never been interested in the same sex. Chester was fighting his own feelings because he knew kemper was straight. Although these two came from completely different worlds. Through trials and tribulation they found their way to each other and in turn found someone they could love completely and who would be there for anything.

Perfect biker slowburn romance!
Written by esmee_books on 17th Aug 2023

“Wong SIde of Heaven” by Elizabeth Monvey, is a gay biker romance and I just LOVED it - wow I was not expecting such a nice read after reading the synopsis tbh haha - I love and Ribar (Kemper) and Chester so much I just flew through the pages. The he pace is perfect slow burn - development of trust, friendship and finally romance ???? (with some nice ?️) This whole book is so good I love the writing style of the author. I just FLEW through the pages. The characters are written very nicely, everyone has a distinct personality even if they are a minor side character and the writing - it really speaks to my imagination (I’m a very visual reader so when I read I see the scene like a movie in my head lol and this is a good movie, love all the details). Anyways to get back to the characters; I love how Ribar Is a big biker but so respectful and even while he’s uncomfortable keeps coming back to wrong side of heaven cause he feels a connection. I loved seeing him sharing his troubles and his connection with Chester grow. Also I love that the book has dual POV we get a bit of insight into both these guys’ feelings! ?? I had a lot of aww moments, laughs and also felt the TENSION! There was a great combo of humour and troubles and a good buildup! I laughed and grinned at all the nicknames hehe. All in all this book is really nice! It’s a decent length and the story keeps being interesting with awwww moments and more relationship development but also tension and plot developments toward the end of the book which kept me fast flipping those pages to see what would happen haha! I have no issues of flaws really nothing to bad mention about this book, I just liked it all haha! Why not 5 stars you ask? Maybe because it was a bittt short I missed some potential “body”, if the book had been 2x or even had a third more pages there would’ve been space for just a bit more? But I also can’t tell you what I would’ve wanted cause I didn’t really miss anything in this book haha! I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing a sequel or a series of side characters? Or just these two ??
