His Personal Angel, 1

Callahan Rush lived the wild, hard partying life of a rock star for years. As the lead singer of the band, The Rebels, he soaked up all the attention until Rosie, his girlfriend, helped him get sober. She was his saving grace until one fateful night when tragedy struck. Cal stepped out of the spotlight and fell back into addiction after her death. He would have lost everything if not for his sister pulling him out of the gutter.

Cal had become completely complacent with his boring life until he sees Lucy again. Lucy, a girl he’s known since they were kids, is so hyper focused on becoming a vet she never sees him coming. They both have been single for so long but can’t deny the indescribable pull they feel towards each other. Could this be their happily ever after?

Excerpt:

Stepping into Jimmy’s kitchen the next morning, I’m stopped dead in my tracks at the sight of Lucy stretching to reach something high up in the cabinet. The little night shirt she has on is riding up, giving me a peek of her perfect ass and the sweet little pink panties she has on. Well, sweet in her mind, I’m sure, but they are giving me some pretty dirty thoughts. Shaking myself out of my stupor, because I don’t want to get caught leering like a creep, I silently step forward and clear my throat. She startles and falls back against my chest. “Sorry, sweetheart. Why don’t I help you grab whatever you were reaching for to make up for scaring you, again?”

She twists in my arms just enough to see my face. “Oh my God, Cal. I’m starting to think you just like to sneak up on me.”

“Well, you are pretty easy prey.” I smile, our faces close enough that I can see the gold flecks in her brown eyes.

As if just realizing I still have my arms around her, she takes a step back and crosses her arms over her chest. By no means detracting from its allure. Reaching up into the cupboard, I grab a bag of coffee and hand it to her. “Is this what you wanted?”

When she takes it from me, I notice a slight tremor in her hands and start to feel bad for scaring her. Or maybe she’s nervous having a guy see her in her pj’s. “What are you doing here so early?” she asks.

“I have to get to the shop early today because we have a plumber coming in, and I was coming to steal coffee from their stash because I ran out.” I look at my watch and then back at her. “What are you doing up so early?” I counter.

“I wanted to get a couple hours in at the library before my lab later this morning.” Probably needing to be busy, she starts making a pot of coffee. I turn around and grab two mugs from the cupboard, and she grabs the milk from the fridge. When we both go for the sugar bowl, she blushes, so I ask, “How’s school going? You must be almost done.”

“Yeah, just about six more weeks of clinical and I can take my boards. It’s going really well. My boss at the clinic I work at already offered me a full-time job.”

“That’s amazing. Congrats.”

“Thank you. I worked really hard the last couple years.” She beams with pride.

“I’ll say.” I look at my watch again and whistle. “I wouldn’t question that since it’s not even six thirty in the morning and you are raring to go to the library.”

“Are you making fun of me, Cal?” she asks a little sadly, her smile slipping.

“No, honey. I’m not. I’m genuinely impressed by your dedication.” It takes me off guard that I want to wrap her in my arms when I say that. I want to comfort her. I haven’t felt that way about anyone since… She just looks so sweet but guarded.

A small smile lights up her face again. “Oh, thank you. I’m sorry about that, but my friends always give me a hard time about working so hard and not going out with them. Something about wasting my youth,” she adds with a dismissive wave of her hand.

“Hey, don’t let other people dictate the way you want to live. Screw ’em.”

Just as her smile widens, the coffee machine beeps that the pot is ready. She pours a cup for me, then herself. We doctor them in a comfortable silence before she brings her mug to her nose and breathes deep. “First cup of the day is always the best.” She salutes me with her mug before taking a sip.

“Best cup of the day.” I smile as I take a sip, then turn toward the door.

“Have a good day, Cal,” she says from behind me. It’ll definitely be better with thoughts of her in that sexy underwear.

“Thanks, honey. You, too.” Pausing before walking through the door, I turn back to her. “You have a great ass, by the way.” I wink before I walk out the door. But I get a glimpse of pink staining her cheeks before I do.

Alix and Dmitry
Written by micamichbooks on 31st Oct 2023

Dmitry is given Alix in payment of her husband's debt. Dmitry needed someone to care for his daughter Sofia. Neither expected to fall in love. Interesting characters and plot! Really enjoyed reading this engaging entertaining and unputdownable story. Told from dual POV reveals intimately their thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's an epilogue and a HEA ending.

Really good, steamy read!
Written by Ash J on 31st Oct 2023

I really enjoyed this book about Cal and Lucy. Cal is a grief stricken former rockstar, who lost his ex-girlfriend through a very traumatic tragedy, and he is now trying to stay clean and sober. Lucy is nine years younger and trying to go to school to become a vet. This was a great, steamy book that was also a real emotional read. The only issure I have is it ends in a dreaded cliff-hanger. Now I have to wait for the next book to come out. I will definitely be checking it out though!

Pretty good
Written by xo2read on 31st Oct 2023

An interesting read by a new author for me. This story follows Cal and Lucy. Cal turns to drugs after losing his girlfriend he until his sister reaches out and helps him out. Lucy was smitten with Cal since she was young and now, even though he’s nine years older, cal never gave her any indication he was interested, Lucy’s love for animals always saw her becoming a vet. There is a cliffhanger so be aware.

Broken
Written by Danisbooksmut on 31st Oct 2023

This was an incredibly sweet read. The book opens on Cal (the main male lead) and his past. After the tragic passing of his girlfriend Cal is a broken man. He blames himself for what happened and originally falls into drugs and drink to get by but his sister helps him rebuild himself and clean up his life. Fast forward a few years later and he starts to develop feelings for an old family friend Lucy. She is sweetness and sunshine and helps to rebuild Cal and show him that he is worthy of love and happiness once again. It's quite a slow burn told in dual POV with both of them thinking through their thoughts and feelings for each other and wondering if they are moving too quickly for the other person but really they are perfect for each other. After the 50% mark the spicy scenes set in and they are super hot together. It's a super easy read and was really enjoyable. There were a couple of pet names which I found used a lot like 'honey' but it didn't detract too much from the story. It did end on a cliff hanger though and I desperately want to know what happens!

Beautiful Read
Written by Danee on 31st Oct 2023

This is my first book I've read by Jennifer Kent and this is the first book in the His Personal Angel series. And how I enjoyed the story of Lucy and Cal. Lucy is on her way to achieving her dreams and goals to kick-start her career. Cal also has his own backpack but together they were great and complement each other. Highly recommended read and can't wait for the next book in this series.

Cliffhanger!!
Written by CatGrey on 31st Oct 2023

Wow. This book had it all. Despite his past with addiction and loss Cal found a new beginning with Lucy. There were a lot of ups and downs, meddling people who tried to come between them and emotion. I loved how this author didn't have Lucy just sit back and take it but instead stand up for what she wanted. They had amazing chemistry and I can't wait for the next book to hopefully see their HEA.

second chances
Written by Slvrdlphn on 31st Oct 2023

I like the premise that we are all allowed second chances. I'm not too keen on all the angst, though. I would have read this book faster if it didn't screw with my brain so much. :D My empathy bone was tingling like crazy! I'm glad they got their HEA.

Cliffhanger
Written by jade_angel121 on 31st Oct 2023

Cal, former rockstar & addict, lost his girlfriend Rosie in a tragic car accident as the result of the actions of an overzealous fan. Since getting sober with his older sister's support, Cal has been living in the shadow of the tragedy, unable to open up to anyone. That is, until he sees Lucy dog-sitting for his sister & brother-in-law. Cal has known Lucy her whole life, and after seeing each other again since Rosie's death, neither can deny the chemistry sparking between them. But can they find happiness together? Broken is well-written and full of sweetness with some steamy interludes. There doesn't appear to be any major plot twists until the end. Be ready for the cliffhanger and keep a lookout for Book 2!

Excellent storyline!
Written by Red65 on 31st Oct 2023

I loved this story even though there were a few things that bothered me. While it is a great story of love, recovery and second chances in life when you get sober, the fact that over and over again the author depicts the main character drinking wine. This takes away the believability of the story due to the fact that someone who was so far into the depths of addiction and alcoholism would not be drinking wine with anyone if he was wanting to truly stay sober. As a person who has 26 years of sobriety it grates on my nerves to read that part of this book. Luckily, I have learned to take what I like and leave the rest so all in all it was a good book and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

A brilliant read from Jennifer Kent. Callahan & Lucy's story combines a brilliant mix of sensuality, romance & a second chance. He's suffered & she's so focused on becoming a Vet that nothing else matters. After many years seeing her again changes him & he can't deny the incredible pull he feels. Do they have a chance at a HEA?

This was an amazing book.
Written by Lucy m on 31st Oct 2023

I loved this book, it was sweet, amazing, and incredible. It has romance and it had heat. I loved both characters and I liked how Lucy was working hard to achieve her goals and get her career started. I loved Cal and the connection between him and Lucy. I felt bad for the guilt he carried, but I like how Lucy didn't blame him for what happened in his past.

Broken!
Written by Mary on 31st Oct 2023

This is the first story in the "His Personal Angel" series. It is addictive and captivating. It also ends in a doozy of a cliffhanger that mimics some of what happened in the very beginning. This story is about Cal and Lucy. It is a story of tragedy, addiction, hitting rock bottom and finding love and peace. Cal is a rock star who has cleaned up his act until someone causes him loss and tragedy. He hits rock bottom with his sister pulling him back from the brink and destruction. He quit the band and has started on a different path. Lucy is a vet student who is keeping his sisters dogs when she runs into Cal. He is her long time crush. This is a good sweet and steamy read. I could have done with out the cliffhanger though. I hate cliffhangers but will continue to read on.

Cal and Lucy
Written by Doris on 31st Oct 2023

This is a new to me author and she’s off to a good start with this rock romance. Cal had it all….until he didn’t. After losing his girlfriend he spirals turning to the addictions he once had until his sister helps him out. Lucy was nine years younger than Cal but always had eyes for him so now maybe she would get her chance. She had a love for animals and wanted nothing more than to be a vet. Would she be able to get a chance with Cal now that things have changed in his life. Be warned of the cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

A second chance and more
Written by Reader62 on 31st Oct 2023

Cal has been suffering guilt, grief, loss and remorse for the past 3 years. His rock and roll life abuse ended abruptly following the tragic death of his girlfriend. His life is back, clean, on trac, but his feelings still remain. Lucy is light to his dark. Clean, wholesome, caring, sharing and infiltrating to help him fight his demons. Interesting, but ends on a cliffhanger...

Cal and Lucy!
Written by Jen9731 on 31st Oct 2023

Broken is the first book in His Personal Angel Series. It is a steamy. Second chance, bit of an age gap romance. Cal is a former Rockstar who now owns his own tattoo studio. Lucy is a young lady going to Veterinary school and has had a crush on Cal since she was younger. Cal left the Music Industry after he tragically lost his girlfriend in an accident 3 years ago. His sister Cassidy pulled him out after he was going down a drinking and drug spiral. He and Lucy grew up together but she is 9 years younger than him. They reconnect when she dog sits for Cassidy's dogs and begin a relationship. Although this a steamy romance, it also a story about self-healing and learning to let happiness back in after grief. The love story is so sweet. The chemistry between Cal and Lucy was off the charts and I loved the witty banter. My only complaint is the cliffhanger at the end ? I can't wait for book 2!

Broken
Written by Polli.P on 31st Oct 2023

After the first few chapters I was all in on this story, however then the pace slowed right down to develop the relationship between Cal and Lucy and, for me, what had huge potential shriveled into a YA romance that only returned to its former pace and interest in the final chapters. Ok, so I must be getting jaded, I guess there's only so much self doubt I can handle from some characters and poor Cal had more than his fair share! As part of the story it's great. As is all the angst and heartbreak stuff. But sadly for Cal and Lucy it becomes the entire reason for their existence. Now that said, I really enjoyed this story. Yes it's very YA in its romance (which is a shame because it could have been alot more spicier), and it was, for me, slightly long winded (too many uneventful domestic scenes). But it was cute as hell! And really well written. Lucy and Cal (despite his yo yo episodes of self doubt) were great characters, the plot, though slow, developed into a lovely cliff hanger ending and I am really keen to read the next in the series.

Looking forward to book 2
Written by Lisana on 31st Oct 2023

Broken is the story of Cal and Lucy. Cal has suffered a tragedy a few years back, and is trying to move on with his life. Lucy is in the process of completing her studies and finally realizing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. These two have known each other for many years, but when they meet again, the attraction between them is immediate. The chemistry between the characters is extraordinary, and there's no denying that they were made for each other. The characters evolve beautifully throughout the story. Their personal development keeps pace with the evolution of their relationship. I love how Lucy gradually comes out of her shell and becomes the woman Cal wants. But Broken isn't just a romance, it's a story of grief, guilt, forgiveness and healing. Be warned, this tome ends on a cliffhanger! I really wasn't expecting it, and now I can't wait to see how Cal and Lucy manage to get through the trials that come their way.
