Close Proximity, 3

Liam is done with love, but his daughter Portia has other plans. When he arrives to pick her up from college, she sets him up with her friend Charlie, and merrily heads off to her internship without them. Liam is left with an uncomfortable hard-on for Portia’s bestie, and a long drive to Vegas with a guy too young to know what to do with a guy Liam’s age.

Charlie thought he liked girls. More specifically, he thought he liked Portia, but when her dad offers him a ride home after graduation, he suddenly, shockingly realizes that he doesn’t like women at all. He likes Liam, and he wants to hook up as soon as possible, and maybe not ever let go. So, when Liam makes an offer he can’t refuse, what’s he supposed to do? Say no to the hottest person he’s ever met?

Be Warned: m/m sex

Excerpt:

Liam stared out at the gorgeous view, contemplating his options, and then he turned to the younger man. “I’m not safe, Charlie. I’ve never been safe.” He smiled slowly, taking a bit of the sting out of his words. “However, I’m quite willing to be your experiment.”

Charlie swallowed. “I … what?”

“Experiment. That’s what you wanted, yes?” Liam noted that the younger man had jammed his hands into his pockets. Hiding … what? An erection? I certainly hope so. Decision made, Liam stepped forward, crowding Charlie up against the low stone wall. What’s the worst that could happen? You fool around, he learns something about himself, and you’ve done your daughter’s friend a favor, he told himself as his arousal revved a bit higher. “You realize I shouldn’t be doing this,” he murmured against Charlie’s temple. It took a supreme act of will not to thrust against the younger man.

“Why not?” Charlie whispered. His hands had gone to Liam’s hips.

Liam inhaled. Charlie smelled fantastic—a combination of coffee and some unidentifiable woodsy scent—like the guy had recently been standing next to a campfire. “Because you’re my daughter’s friend. You’re at least twenty years younger than me. And because I’m not old enough to have a mid-life crisis yet.” He let himself run his hands up Charlie’s arms. The solid muscles in his arms appealed to Liam.

“How old are you?” Charlie asked.

Liam went still, surprised by the question. “Thirty-nine.” Charlie’s biceps felt solid and warm beneath his palms. He resisted the urge to dig his fingers into all of the delicious weight, and kept his touch light. “Old, by your standards.”

“That’s not old,” Charlie said, licking his lips.

“No? What is it then?” Liam tilted his head.

Charlie mirrored him, eyes going dark. “You’re mature. Experienced.” He slid his hands up Liam’s chest. “You’re killing me, Liam.”

All right then, no more hesitating, Liam thought, leaning in. When his lips touched Charlie’s, the younger man sucked in a quick breath. Liam opened his mouth and licked inside.

“Oh God,” Charlie tried to say, but then Liam slid his hands up to the younger man’s head, and there was no more room for words. Charlie tasted sweet and smoky, and Liam abruptly knew that he’d just got himself into a deeper bind than he’d anticipated.

I’m not going to be happy with a simple kiss, he thought, even as he pushed harder, pressing his hard-on into Charlie’s hip. The younger man moaned, and then Liam threaded his fingers into Charlie’s hair, holding his head precisely where he wanted it. “Fuck me,” he breathed, biting Charlie’s lower lip. “You’re dangerous.”

“Me? That’s ridiculous,” Charlie panted, and Liam kissed him again.

“Addicting.” Liam mouthed the words against Charlie’s jawline. The subtle scratch of whiskers shot a bolt of heat straight through to Liam’s cock. It had been so long since he’d had the pleasure of another man’s beard against his skin. Why the hell had he waited so long? He kissed Charlie again, hands going down to the younger man’s ass. Charlie gasped, and his erection pushed into Liam’s in the most perfect way.

“Oh my God,” Charlie breathed, mouth open against Liam’s cheek. “What is this?”

Liam bit Charlie’s earlobe. “This is lust,” he said, as if that explained everything, but how well he knew that it didn’t. He hadn’t felt this crazed in years. He thrust once, twice, and then forced himself still. “I want to suck you,” he said, kneading Charlie’s delectable ass. “I want to make you lose your mind.”

Charlie trembled. “Oh.”

Liam smiled, then slowly slid down until he was on his knees in front of the younger man. The sunset slanted orange and red across Charlie’s body, casting his groin into shadow, but Liam didn’t need light for what he was about to do.

“Wait, here? Are you serious?” Charlie asked, biting his lip.

Liam put a hand on the younger man’s cock. “Right here. Right now.” Truth be told, the risk of getting caught giving head in an interstate rest stop heightened everything. He smirked, then undid Charlie’s jeans. The younger man’s cock sprang out of his soft boxers, and Liam took him in hand.

“Oh, fuck.” Charlie jammed the heel of his hand against his mouth, muffling the rest of his words.

“Easy,” Liam murmured, running his lips over Charlie’s soft skin. His cock felt silky and hard and delightful against his face, and he opened his mouth to lick the pre-cum welling from the tip. Charlie tasted like smoke and sweetness, and Liam wasted no time sucking him in.

The Romance Review
Written by Connie on 29th Oct 2018

This is my first Erin Leaf book and it most certainly will not be my last! I am very picky when it comes to M/M romances, but the sound of this one just spoke to me. I decided to give it a chance. The result? A night of fun and hot romance, that's what! Charlie was a little off for me at first. His confusion was a little fake to me, but it didn't deter me from reading, and loving, his and Liam's whirlwind romance. Once he realized his feelings for Liam, it was a spark-flying, hot-passion read for sure! These two guys will pull you to the heart of the story and keep you there til the end. Every kiss they share, every word is a promise of what's to come. Erin Leaf is an author that I won't forget about. The characters, the writing style, the story line all blend beautifully together and make the reader thirsty for more. I can't wait to back and read the others in this series and I look forward to more 4 star worthy reads in the future!

Long and Short Reviews
Written by Fern on 21st Oct 2018

Liam had been looking forward to spending some time with his college-aged daughter, but when Portia called to say she’d been offered an internship, Liam knew his plans were shot. Pleased to at least see his daughter briefly before she heads off to Hawaii, Liam is not surprised Portia promised her best friend, Charlie, that Liam would give him a lift home. Charlie has had nothing but rotten luck with the women he’s dated, and he’s starting to think he might be trying to hook up with the wrong gender. Feeling that a bit of experimentation with his best friend’s father might not be a bad idea, Charlie is hoping to use this drive for more than just a means of transport from Arizona to Vegas. I found this to be a fun and interesting short story. I was particularly pleased that Charlie and Liam didn’t just jump immediately into bed and get all hot and heavy with each other. While there’s plenty of chemistry and flirting, I felt the longer “getting to know you” part – and also particularly a little father/daughter time with Liam and Portia – really helped round out the story and give it a feel of more than just an erotic short story. Strong on the characterization of Charlie and Liam in particular, this book wasn’t just a few sexy scenes strung together but really felt like a story of two men in completely different places in their lives finding each other and falling in love. I really enjoyed it and found it highly satisfying as a well-rounded story. Once Liam and Charlie become intimate I found the sex to be both prolific and hotly written. While there is an age-gap between Charlie and Liam I didn’t feel it overbalanced the connection between the two men and I certainly didn’t feel like it created a power imbalance. Charlie was certainly a grown up man, who had just graduated college and had already had a few hard knocks in life and knew what the world was about. At no stage did I feel he was portrayed as an innocent or sheltered young man nor did I feel like Liam in any way took advantage over him. The two men were well suited and while admittedly at completely different stages in their life and possibly looking for very different things, I really felt like they were well suited. And there was enough chemistry between them to singe the pages. A hot and fun, quick read this was a great short story and an author I’m rapidly growing fond of. A great story and one I will happily reread again in the future.

Loved it!
Written by Amy Dufera on 5th Sep 2018

The Drive, by Erin M Leaf is fantastic! I was hooked immediately and couldn't get enough. I love a good May-December romance, and I find this one refreshing, as the daughter sneakily sets her dad, Liam, up with her friend, Charlie. I adore this! The attraction is immediate, with Charlie being surprised since he's never been with a guy. When Liam's daughter, Portia, sets him up, she does so thinking he's lonely. And she thinks Charlie needs someone who's older and has some experience. As they make their long drive, sparks fly, conversations are had, and romance is in the air. The story is light, well done and highly enjoyable. One of the best themes is the book is that love is the most important emotion, and we have to seize the moment if we get a chance. As Liam tells this to Charlie, I just loved it. It is so true and so important to take that chance. The Drive contains first times, an age gap, and some steamy sex scenes. Read it and enjoy. Now, I'm off to see what else Erin M Leaf has written.

Romance Reviews

A matchmaking daughter, her father who just hasn’t found the time to date after his divorce, and one of the daughter’s friend are at the center of this cute insta-romance. While it was sort of obvious what she wanted, her father is a little slow on the uptake and as for her friend? He really has very little clue until he is confronted with a truth about himself he had no idea existed. Fun and lighthearted, this is a straightforward May/December romance with very little drama. Liam runs a nightclub and is not really looking for love. Charlie has his masters in IT, is looking for a job, and has been looking for love in all the wrong places. When they go on a drive together, because Liam has promised to drop off Charlie on his way home, neither of them has any idea what is about to happen. The attraction is immediate, the sex sizzling hot, and while there are few common interests, the potential for a relationship is obvious to both men. If you like uncomplicated romances, if insta-love is your thing, and if you’re looking for a quick read that has the potential to make you smile, then you might like this novella.

I've loved every book in this series so far and this one is no exception. A short and simply perfect read which highlights the importance of grabbing love when it falls in your lap. I adored the way Portia set up her father and her friend, and I have to say the relationship she had with her Dad was simply awesome. Left me with a huge grin on my face. Do yourself a favour and pick up this series. It's simply a must read, and I sure hope there is more coming from Close Proximity? Please, with cherries on top? :-)
